G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted November 15, 2013 Posted November 15, 2013 It's not going to cost something crazy like Sanchez or Stroman. The Reds have to move him since signing Pena so it's not like they have a huge upper hand in negotiations. Exactly AA ninja snatch while other teams fight over McCann
GD Old-Timey Member Posted November 15, 2013 Posted November 15, 2013 Saw somewhere Wieters might be available if Orioles want to sign a Belrran type. Catcher market is saturated which bodes well for us, though AA probably won't take the best route. I put the chances AA trades for Wieters at negative 0. -Boras client -Hit .235 -.704 OPS -Inter division He looks at that and probably thinks that he already has JPA for all of that.

I think really what he means is that there are a bunch of catchers available he should have some leverage when it comes to making a deal.
GeorgiaPeach Verified Member Posted November 15, 2013 Posted November 15, 2013 Wouldn't surprise me either. Why wouldn't it surprise you that Tampa would go after Hanigan?

Oh, that would be nice. Sucks that we probably won't go after Wieters still, but that's a decent silver lining.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted November 15, 2013 Posted November 15, 2013 Ya I was saying it makes Hanigan, Ruiz, et al cheaper if true. That makes more sense, t'is what I get for skimming. Anything that slightly raises our shot at Ruiz = yay.
jays_fever Old-Timey Member Posted November 16, 2013 Posted November 16, 2013 I love Weiters, like id probably forgive AA for everything he has done in the past if he somehow obtained him. Our prospect bank is so low now so it isnt like we could overpay for him.

kgm1 Verified Member Posted November 16, 2013 Posted November 16, 2013 IMO Stroman doesn't even land you Samardzija. It takes Stroman and 1-2 other guys from our top-15. I actually really like Samardzija, but he just doesn't make any sense unless the FO is panicking in an effort to win in 2014 at all costs. Yep. We trade for Samardzija it will be another gut job on the minors. I can see it now ,by the end of July,s trade deadline we will have the worst minor league system in baseball and an aging team with 1.5 years of control.

They made two offers to Weiters to extend him and he like Davis will go the FA route. There is no way I would trade for a Boras client as you know your not extending him .

kgm1 Verified Member Posted November 16, 2013 Posted November 16, 2013 No way AA trades for him. This is. One of the reasons more gm,s should stop dealing with boras. The O,s will be screwed when they lose Wieters and Davis but He takes all his clients to free agency. Detroit,s dilemma with Schertzer. Hard to trade when the receiving team will only get 1 year. I,m one who agrees with the Jays "" no Boras and No 6 year contracts . Just wish AA would agree with my build thru the farm system
kgm1 Verified Member Posted November 16, 2013 Posted November 16, 2013 Yea Jay. Nothing is happening but writers still need something so they print what they think are likely scenarios. If the hunting was decent I,d just do that but wolves and a hard winter have really screwed that up . Very few big deer and the Elk are thinned right out in my area. Guess I,ll just go Wolf hunting this weekend

The Orioles are probably better off riding it out and going that route because it will be hard to get good value in trade for players that can't be extended.
EdelweissBouquet Verified Member Posted November 17, 2013 Posted November 17, 2013 Don't be pedantic. The point was that AA hasn't stumbled across some market inefficiency here. No GM should strive to be the guy who is repeatedly willing to punt more of the future for immediate fixes than his peers. LOL...... pedantic ..... Haven't heard this word used in ages. Got to hand it to you bts, you do know the english language.. wtg !

Same goes for Scherzer. No one is going to trade a top 20 prospect for 1 year of him at 13-14M to have him walk to the highest bidder next December.

You just have to assume such players are going to turn in to draft picks if you trade for them or already have them.
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted November 23, 2013 Posted November 23, 2013 Nolin is involved. Just yesterday Hurls source said Nolin was offered up in a trade Gose + Stroman + Nolin ---------> Overpaid again
JaysFan4Ever Verified Member Posted November 23, 2013 Posted November 23, 2013 Doesn't Jeff Samardzija have a no-trade clause? At least that's what it says on Cot's and Rotoworld.
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted November 23, 2013 Posted November 23, 2013 If we are in on him, I could definitely see the deal expanding.

GD Old-Timey Member Posted November 23, 2013 Posted November 23, 2013 Buy low. Castro? That would be expensive as heck. Wood is another guy I wouldn't mind. Castillo, maybe. Beyond that there isn't much.
JaysFan4Ever Verified Member Posted November 23, 2013 Posted November 23, 2013 Ah! Thanks for the clarification.
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted November 23, 2013 Posted November 23, 2013 Buy low. Castro? Castro would be fantastic (although incredibly unlikely).

z3r0s Old-Timey Member Posted November 24, 2013 Posted November 24, 2013 I don't get the logic in trading Stroman in a package for a decent SP. Storman is probably a decent SP next year...

Very little of what AA has done over the last 16-18 months has any logic attached to it so you're not alone.
