GD Old-Timey Member Posted August 13, 2013 Author Posted August 13, 2013 Thad Weber not the starter according to the best stats guy in the biz, Stroman or Nolin or Hutchison please
theblujay Verified Member Posted August 13, 2013 Posted August 13, 2013 Sheesh.......dropping like flies, I smell a Nolin call-up. That's the end of JJ's 13'. Nolin pitches today...
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted August 13, 2013 Posted August 13, 2013 This could effectively end his season at which point offering him the QO doesn't seem like a very strong option.
Dylan Old-Timey Member Posted August 13, 2013 Posted August 13, 2013 The injury bug was pretty quiet but is now in full attack mode... Perez, Delabar, JJ, Rasmus, JP
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted August 13, 2013 Posted August 13, 2013 This was an hour ago: I don't understand why they like to lie to us. What's the point? There can't be another organization in the league that outright lies to the fans as often as the Jays do. Couldn't it have been miscommunication, change in circumstances, etc.? Doesn't necessarily have to be a lie.
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted August 13, 2013 Posted August 13, 2013 This was an hour ago: I don't understand why they like to lie to us. What's the point? Hutchison just need rest, 2 or 3 weeks. Morrow will miss couple of outings. Bautista is back to the lineup, he,s 100% (Out 2012).
GD Old-Timey Member Posted August 13, 2013 Author Posted August 13, 2013 Can't believe how amazing of a buy low case this is. Sign him for cheap an you will have a mid-3 ERA starter for a few years. Which means we're letting him walk.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted August 13, 2013 Author Posted August 13, 2013 I dunno. I follow the Sens pretty closely and never get the impression the fanbase is being lied to. The last few years has just been ridiculous. That's because hockey teams will never say more than "upper body injury" lol.

Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted August 13, 2013 Posted August 13, 2013 JJ will not pitch in 2014; TJS coming soon. Book it.
Atothe Old-Timey Member Posted August 13, 2013 Posted August 13, 2013 How can you be sure of this? He's an injury-prone starter entering his 30's. because he's had way more good seasons then bad so the odds favor him regressing back to being a good pitcher
GD Old-Timey Member Posted August 13, 2013 Author Posted August 13, 2013 How can you be sure of this? He's an injury-prone starter entering his 30's. Track record and xFIP make a good case
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted August 13, 2013 Posted August 13, 2013 AA has said all along he wants to extend him. We'll have to wait and see. I'd die a little inside if he didn't try?! AA extended the McGowan contract, I don't hesitate if He extend JJ lol
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted August 13, 2013 Posted August 13, 2013 Track record and xFIP make a good case I agree, but that ignores his continued injury history (dealing with the dreaded "forearm tightness" right now) and age. If he's cheap I'd be interested but the number would have to be low. So low that a team with a more pitcher-friendly ballpark in an easier division would probably be able to make a more attractive offer.

I'd do something like 3/24. I'd love that.

Only way I could see Johnson coming back is if he has some kind of weird, twisted sense of loyalty and feels like he owes the Jays something.
KSaw Verified Member Posted August 14, 2013 Posted August 14, 2013 It's not shoulder troubles, which gives me some hope. I'd do something like 3/24. I'd love that. Same triceps injury that put him on the DL earlier. Same triceps injury that altered his fastball release point and tipped all his pitches after coming off the DL. Same triceps injury that popped up after the only game he released his fastball from the correct slot closer to 2 o'clock. Clearly he came back too soon. Muscles react differently when compensating for forearm tendinitis. Ask Morrow. Dr. Ron Taylor is in his 70s. Maybe time to move on and get a team doctor who treats the tendon problems and not the muscular symptoms for our pitchers.
KSaw Verified Member Posted August 14, 2013 Posted August 14, 2013 Cutters, curves and sliders = elbow problems 2-seam fastballs, splitters and forkballs = shoulder problems 4-seam fastballs = forearm problems Lets be ahead of the curve and medically prepared.

A bottom-up diagnosis of the Blue Jays pitching injury history would tell any empiricist that whatever medical care the team is currently getting *probably* isn't working well enough, relative to the rest of baseball. Get a new go-to Doctor guy, but on top of that, hire a savvy Kinesiologist/Physics/Biomechanics guy to analyze mechanics, diagnosis deviations from the norm in the major league talent, and suggest mechanical tweaks in the young prospect arms. I can't for the f***ing life of me understand why some sports teams will gladly give a mediocre player several millions of dollars, but remain so apprehensive to establishing a plethora of innovative off-field positions such as the above ^ at a fraction of the cost of that 'meh' athlete. The Blue Jays think Maicer Izturis is worth 10 million dollars. For that money, you could probably get almost 10 difference making PhD level nerds on 10 year contracts. And if this human capital resulted in a little more than ONE f***ING WIN ON THE FIELD (not each year - in total), they would be worth their entire 10 year cumulative salaries. ~$75k analysts in the Rays FO are probably earning that team millions upon millions of dollars in surplus value.... every. f***ing. year.
Laika Community Moderator Posted August 14, 2013 Posted August 14, 2013 Any idea what the Rays spend on non-scouting/coaching front office staff relative to the rest of baseball? I have no clue. Nox probably knows. I bet they don't spend any more on their FO human capital than the rest of baseball, but they probably hire the right people and get 100x more value than any other team (just like on the field).
KSaw Verified Member Posted August 14, 2013 Posted August 14, 2013 Decision to call up Weber makes no sense. He should be DFA for Stroman. Thad Weber is a cheap, under control pitcher, with options, who is exceeding expectations and turning himself into a Major League starter. You don't drop a player like that from your 40-Man Roster.
Chappy Community Moderator Posted August 14, 2013 Posted August 14, 2013 This could effectively end his season at which point offering him the QO doesn't seem like a very strong option. Its probably a long shot at this point and rightfully so. Time to move on......

If the Jays don't offer a QO then sure, but why would he want to come back at that point? I am sure several teams will offer him team friendly deals in locations he would much rather play in.
Chappy Community Moderator Posted August 14, 2013 Posted August 14, 2013 Friedman and Beane are going to be all over this. And they will cash in big.
Chappy Community Moderator Posted August 14, 2013 Posted August 14, 2013 How can you be sure of this? He's an injury-prone starter entering his 30's. He is a good candidate to buy low on. Not $14M+, but maybe $5M plus incentives and a couple significant team options at 10M+. Not bad if that is the case, but then were competing against several teams at that point.
Chappy Community Moderator Posted August 14, 2013 Posted August 14, 2013 AA has said all along he wants to extend him. We'll have to wait and see. I'd die a little inside if he didn't try?! Jay, when did he actually come out and say this specifically? I don't ever recall him doing so. Maybe indirectly, but not directly.
