Spoonovic Verified Member Posted August 8, 2013 Posted August 8, 2013 Was just wondering how the crowd looked and sounded like from a TV stand point. In the stadium it was 80-90% jays fans depending on the game. All the bars after were 100% Jays fans, coming over from Alberta and BC. People were singing O'Canada in the bar and celebrating like it was 1992/93. Great three days!
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted August 8, 2013 Posted August 8, 2013 It looked pretty much exactly like that. That's got to be embarassing if you're a Seattle fan.
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted August 8, 2013 Posted August 8, 2013 Yeah it was similar on TV, the cheers were louder when the Jays got hits, and the chants for "lets go blue jays" were louder than anything Seattle fans offered.

Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted August 8, 2013 Posted August 8, 2013 It was pretty impressive watching on TV. Did anyone happen to watch Seattle's broadcast and hear their announcer's comments?
Dylan Old-Timey Member Posted August 8, 2013 Posted August 8, 2013 It was pretty impressive watching on TV. Did anyone happen to watch Seattle's broadcast and hear their announcer's comments? the first game i watched was the seattle feed. The announcers were loving it. They said they were just happy to have a big/loud crowd and that it felt like a playoff game.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted August 8, 2013 Posted August 8, 2013 Really cool to see There were like 8,000-10,000 more fans than usual for a Mariners game. Awesome.
leaffie Verified Member Posted August 8, 2013 Posted August 8, 2013 It was pretty impressive watching on TV. Did anyone happen to watch Seattle's broadcast and hear their announcer's comments? I was there for the three games, and had a great time. Listened to the seattle broadcast while at the games. They were very, very impressed. Thought Canadian fans, even though they had taken over the park, were not doing it in a mean and spiteful face, like Boston fans do when they come to town. Said that even though the Mariners were losing first two games, thought that Sundays Mariners fans came out to support their team. Were surprised that the Jays were in last place, considering the talent that they saw on the field. Things I noticed from the games: Gibbons was everywhere talking to players one on one during BP. Always with an arm on player, like a father. JPA was the only player, that stood and signed autographs. Went down the line signing, but picked out all the kids, first for signing. Both my grands were there and got their jerseys signed. Still think he is a lousy player, but was impressed with that. Lawrie seems to have great interaction with all the players. Rasmus, Lind and Reyes, especially seem to seek him out, between innings. Much more than you ever see on TV. Lawrie's mom and dad were on the field with him during second pregame. Mom gave him a big hug and a kiss, and like all moms, then reached up and wiped the lipstick off his face. Only another mom would appreciate this one. Thought that Encarnacion looked like he might have a nagging injury. Was kind of dragging himself around listlessly. Just an opinion, but believe this team is playing like a team, more than it appears on TV. Sitting in the stands yesterday, you could tell that they were going to lose this game. All of a sudden they just got flat, and everyone around us thought the same thing. IMO, Lawrie will become the leader on this team, if he can stay on the field. Bautista is not it.

Before yesterday's game Janssen, Bhuerle and Cecil all spent a lot of time signing autographs before warm up. Lawrie spent some time too. Me and my friend yelled EMILIO and Bonafacio looked over to us. We both gave him the LoViste sign, he returned it and then threw a ball right to us. Three times throughout the series (all before games), we did the exact same thing with Bonafacio and he returned the favor every time.

Fighting the traffic to get there. I thought all the players were engaged, hanging on the fence the entire first game.

LOVethISTEam Verified Member Posted August 8, 2013 Posted August 8, 2013 Myself and 3 friends were there for the entire series. I had gone last year as well and the crowd this year was better. All three days a really solid turn out from Jays fans. We asked one of the beer vendors if they sold this much beer on a typical night. She sort of got one of those 1,000 yard PTSD stares that soldiers get and slowly started shaking her head going "nuh uh, they warned us about you guys..." She looked exactly like this dog: http://i94.photobucket.com/albums/l112/Kamikaze102/0d939574.gif The two Jays fans in the middle of King's court holding K signs for our strike outs were awesome. Troll level: maximum. I was offering $20 for a King Felix hat but nobody would sell it to me! The traffic was ridiculous on the way back. The game ended at 4:15 or so and we didn't get out of Safeco's parkade until 6 (yes, it took an hour and 45 minutes to just get out of the parkade), and then didn't get out of Seattle itself until around 8. The border wait at 10:30pm was 90 minutes at least - we thought it was a typo but we had no idea how wrong we were... Unbelievable how not only did we take over the stadium, but we took over their night life as well! All the bars packed with Jays fans like mentioned before. Protip: Go to a place called Cowgirls after the games (just don't ride the bull if you're a dude - you will be mercilessly booed with extreme prejudice). The Ibanez thing was hilarious since he sort of disappeared behind the wall for us, and then we just see the ball slowly start rolling out of left field and were so confused as to what just happened. Ibanez just being Ibanez it turns out. I'm always amazed by how easy it is to spot Buck since his hair is like a lighthouse beacon. A lot of Riders fans at the games as well. Booed every time they were on the Jumbotron by Mariners and Jays fans alike. Anyway it's an awesome road trip and we can't wait to do it again next year.
Ziggyy108 Verified Member Posted August 8, 2013 Posted August 8, 2013 Seattle is prob my favourite city in the world. Absolutely love it there. If the Jays are in the hunt next year, and this series is during a weekend, Safeco will be sold out with Jays fans

Since we had to catch a ferry to the island, we left at 4:00. thank goodness we did or we would have never caught the ferry.

Not seeing the ball is one thing but this? Reminds me of the little kids in the home run derby trying to catch the ball.
BlueJayWay Verified Member Posted August 8, 2013 Posted August 8, 2013 Imagine if the series had playoff implications.
Spoonovic Verified Member Posted August 8, 2013 Author Posted August 8, 2013 It was great, Jack Morris even threw in a stinger to TO fans, saying they should learn a thing or two from you guys, Cheering before anything happens. Well done, folks. It’s unfair for anyone to criticize the Toronto Jays fans and to say that they should be more like the West Coast Jays fans. We West Coasters only get to see the Jays one series a year, so we have built up excitement. While Toronto based fans can see the Jays 81 times a year. Also, we all have to road trip to Seattle. So most of us are in “party mode” and drunk as hell. Everyone who has ever been on a road trip knows that your vibe on a road trip is a lot different than your vibe on a night out in the city you live in.
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted August 8, 2013 Posted August 8, 2013 That film was great, Gran Torino?
HERPDERP Old-Timey Member Posted August 9, 2013 Posted August 9, 2013 Yes. great film, underrated. I love that kind of justice. That asian girl was pretty hot too.
TheHurl Site Manager Posted August 9, 2013 Posted August 9, 2013 I bought a Rays shirt while I was in the States (went to one store that had jerseys for 28 teams, only two that they didn't was the Rays and Marlins...although the Astros they had was the old school Stros), I'm ready to rep the Rays fans and be super loud when they come in for the last series of the year. Who's with me???
