G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted July 5, 2013 Posted July 5, 2013 Not trolling. Not reactionary to any one game. Just being realistic and presenting the counterpoint to the "We're buyers" thread. Easy ones: Josh Johnson - Still don't know if trade now or keep and make a QO. I guess it depends on what AA can get for him. Oliver - Retiring anyway. Might as well go to Texas Bonifacio - Worthless to us. Will get almost nothing in return but I'd rather call up Pillar or Gose than keep this guy around Tougher but probably smart to trade: Janssen - Love the guy but his value is higher than it ever will be again. Could net a nice return.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted July 5, 2013 Author Posted July 5, 2013 We all want Arencibia traded but I don't actually see it happening. Never know.
NorthOf49 Old-Timey Member Posted July 5, 2013 Posted July 5, 2013 I think trading Janssen would be fairly easy if you're getting a decent piece in return. We have too many good relievers and as you say, his value is at its peak. I'd think about Cecil too, even though I do love what he's doing.
Dylan Old-Timey Member Posted July 5, 2013 Posted July 5, 2013 If we sold everyone we could start a really sweet rebuild lol
admin Site Manager Posted July 5, 2013 Posted July 5, 2013 Move Jimenez up to AAA. If he keeps hitting, bring him up in a month, and let him split time with JPA. Dump JPA in the offseason, let Jimenez be the catcher. If Jimenez hits .180/.200, he'll still provide more value than JPA did. Dump Rogers at the deadline. JJ. Oliver. Janssen. Davis. Rasmus. Make McGowan a starter. Make Stroman start. Offseason. Cano or die trying.
Deadpool Old-Timey Member Posted July 5, 2013 Posted July 5, 2013 Cecil closes the next 10 save situations, then Delebar for the 10 after that... Sell Cecil, Janssen and Delebar as "proven closers" Try to trade Dickey for something like d'Arnaud and Syndergaard (and the 3rd piece I forget the name of 'cause I'm drunk...) he's a former Cy Young winner on a good contract, that should be easy.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted July 5, 2013 Author Posted July 5, 2013 The optics of selling are just too ugly. I hope he doesn't really think that way
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted July 5, 2013 Author Posted July 5, 2013 My list to keep: Reyes Bautista Encarnacion Lind Lawrie Rasmus Davis Dickey Buerhle Morrow Cecil Delabar Santos Wagner Loup Kawasaki
Deadpool Old-Timey Member Posted July 5, 2013 Posted July 5, 2013 My list to keep: Reyes Bautista Encarnacion Lind Lawrie Rasmus Dickey Buerhle Morrow Cecil Delabar Santos Wagner Loup Kawasaki Because you don't think you could move them? Or do you really want to keep them?
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted July 5, 2013 Author Posted July 5, 2013 Because you don't think you could move them? Or do you really want to keep them? Cause I want to keep them, in most cases If you can rake in a good haul because some GM desperately wants someone like EE or Ramus then sure. But I don't go shopping these guys around.
mtljaysfan Verified Member Posted July 5, 2013 Posted July 5, 2013 Realistically this season's over for us. So we need to sell at deadline. I would trade JPA, Boni, Izituris, Rasmus, Davis, Johnson, Oliver, Janssen. We'll need to sign/acquire a solid 2B & C for next season.
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted July 5, 2013 Posted July 5, 2013 1-Janssen 2-Johnson 3-Oliver 4-Rajai 5-Bonifacio 6-Bautista for Profar or for Taveras in a three-way deal

G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted July 5, 2013 Author Posted July 5, 2013 Did you notice the two names I bolded? I specifically was referring to Dickey and Buehrle.... Missed the emphasis Hmmmm Buerhle I think you have to keep now, and I didn't think that at all when we acquired him. Yes he's expensive next year but he's the only one who feels like a sure thing for next year Dickey? Such a wild card. With all we put in to get him, and the guy he is, I can't see moving him after 1 season.
8D Verified Member Posted July 5, 2013 Posted July 5, 2013 I don't think the Jays intend on selling since Beeston said Jays have payroll flexibility (hinting at trades). Unless the Jays fall off the victoria falls and drown to death from here on out until the AS. I still think AA plans on contending for the next two years and see what happens.

Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted July 5, 2013 Posted July 5, 2013 I think last year is evidence that he does. How else to describe not only acquiring Happ last year when the team was 0.500 late, but renting Lyon and declining to trade Oliver when the market pays a premium for vet left-handed relievers at the deadline? I would be very surprised if he doesn't buy, and absolutely shocked if he sells. Not after the offseason, and not with fan hype being what its been all year. Speaking of Lyon, he just got designated for assignment by the Mets.
JaysFan4Ever Verified Member Posted July 5, 2013 Posted July 5, 2013 I doubt AA sells. He might swap a guy like Oliver or a reliever, maybe Boni but that'll be it. He'll either do next to nothing or he'll go out and acquire yet another underachieving player with high upside that doesn't preform better than replacement while possibly taking on more money or giving away the last few pieces of the farm. Unless the team starts another 11 game winning streak, there isn't a point in buying so I'd sell whoever someone wants at the right prices. Guys like Buehrle aren't going anywhere based on the contract. I'd say Janssen would be someone to move since he has an option for next year and will serve well as a set up man at least in a contender's bullpen. Oliver because he's going to retire and maybe Texas or some contender will give up some cash or a half way decent minor leaguer in return. JJ if anyone wants a starter and will pay. You figure maybe one of the west coast teams or NL teams might want him since he'll be better in the NL anyway.
SAAviour Verified Member Posted July 5, 2013 Posted July 5, 2013 I'd do whatever I could to get out of Buerhle's contract, even though he is pitching great. Johnson should go. Boni please. Oliver. I would also trade Lind if it is still possible to get a good prospect, but likely too late. JP needs to go, watch him go to NL and turn into Piazza. I would even trade morrow if he comes back in time if the prospect hall was worth it, but more likely to be done in the offseason. I realize that I just traded away 3 starting pitchers, but only one has helped this year so it's like trading away 1 only. Hell, it might be good to sell high on Rogers, unless today ruined that chance. Ok, maybe I wouldn't trade all those pitchers, but 2 of the 4
o2cui2i Community Moderator Posted July 5, 2013 Posted July 5, 2013 AA is not going to sell. He bought last year and the team was awful. The optics of selling are just too ugly. if the same people are telling AA what players have talent buying or selling will both make things worse. so it really doesn't matter.

I think JPA can reach his potential of pizza. JPA is easily a better baseball player than most kinds of pizza... Maybe not Beeno's, but most kinds. You're living dangerously with that deal Yeah, I'm not going to invest heavily in cutlery stocks...
