If AA doesn't trade from our surplus to a team that will overpay for it, I'm going to go berserk. We could trade 2-3 relievers and replace them easily. Wagner and Perez have been good, Carreno has dominated the minors, Stilson...ect.

The way I see it we have five relievers with real value, albeit varying degrees (Cecil, Delabar, Janssen, Oliver, Loup). Personally I'd be unloading as many as possible as long as the value is there. Obviously that won't happen, but IMO AA has to trade two: Oliver and Janssen. The other three are cheap and controllable so I get keeping them, but Oliver and Janssen have to go. Oliver is going to retire after the year and Janssen is a free agent after 2014 - both of these guys will be desirable commodities and neither figure into our long-term plans.

Oliver and Janssen can go and the pen is still in great shape heading into 2014. I really hope AA does this.

I'd be very tempted to trade Delabar. He has somewhat upstaged Janssen by being chosen to the ASG. At the very least, I'd gauge his trade value with other teams.

Trading Jannsen just seems like a no brainer.

Dont even factor in Cecil, Delabar, Dusty or Wagner but Carreno should be a solid BP arm going forward along with Stilson.

Don't forget Santos. Injury prone yes, but if he can stay reasonably healthy next year he is another big piece.

I am not opposed to moving Delabar if the return is great, but I would really need to be blown away to move him before Janssen. Delabar doesn't make much at all and Janssen will get $4M next year in the final year of his contract. Doesn't make much sense to not move Janssen.

I agree. I just like the idea of selling high on Delabar or any of the bullpen pieces to possibly plug one of the holes on the MLB level or get a prospect without trading away any other prospects.

To be honest: I'd move as many as them as there is a market for. BP arms are a dime-a-dozen, and it wouldn't be at all surprising to see Cecil and Delabar blow up next year. Just look how we found these guys:

- Janssen = failed starter

- Cecil = failed starter

- Delabar = gym teacher who came back and then was acquired for nothing

- Loup = late-round draft pick

- Oliver = cheap free agent signing

We move all these guys for a huge haul and roll the dice with new arms, or we could keep them and roll the dice that they're good again next year.

If the offers are strong enough I would move everyone I possibly could. That being said, I would make moving Janssen and Oliver priority #1. The others are still cheap and can be flipped at a later date if needed.

For sure. I said before, I'd love another Rasmus/Escobar type deal to plug one of the MLB holes or get a decent prospect or 2. I really like the idea of keeping Stroman, Nolin and Hutchison and have have them start next year at AAA. Boy, if they had only waited another year, the franchise would be in some shape with these 3 guys + Marisnick in AAA + arguably Syndergaard. Sanchez and Nicolino in AA and Norris possibly in Dunedin. D'Arnaud, Gose...NVM.

A day doesn't go by where I don't think about what could have been if AA didn't go apeshit on trades. Man

We would be loaded...ok I'm just gonna stop

Yeah, that team is obviously in much better shape than we're in now. Break the bank for Gonzalez and Cruz/Choo this offseason.

LF - Choo

RF - Bautista

DH - Lind

1B - Encarnacion

CF - Rasmus

C - d'Arnaud

3B - Lawrie

SS - Escobar

2B - Aviles/Izturis

SP - Morrow

SP - Gonzalez

SP - Hutchison

SP - Syndergaard

SP - Stroman/Alvarez/Woj/Nolin

Probably lacks an ace, but that's a young, exciting team and like $50 million cheaper than what we have next year. Imagine watching that rotation every day?

Ugh, we were on the right track...

That rotation would be fantastic from just a pure entertainment standpoint. Any one of those pitchers have the ability to do something special on any given night.

You know, I wouldn't have hated the idea of sending Miami a bag of balls for Buehrle if we couldn't land a FA starter. He won't be worth the contract, but having Buehrle is better than not having anyone.

I like Buehrle and never really had a problem with the trade, it was just the Dickey trade that I didn't like.

I've said it dozens of times. D'arnaud will not be a catcher!! He already has way too many injuries. He might be a catcher for 1 or 2 seasons tops before his legs fall off.

Dickey trade was f***ing brutal

Marlins trade... JJ sucks, Buehrle has met his expectations (but they are low) but he's overpaid like a mofo, Reyes was injured for almost the whole first half of the season, and Bonifacio is just...bad. We also got John Buck, who we traded for Dickey... Who has sucked.

I like Reyes, that's about it. Not a huge fan of that trade as of right now

At the time I think most expected more out of what we got. This team has just sucked as a whole period. Buehrle although getting off to a terrible start has been the rock of our rotation and I am fine with him. Reyes was hurt but that stuff happens, when healthy he is a great talent. JJ when healthy over a full year is a difference maker, we just haven't had a chance to see him get on a roll yet. Boni sucks period.

2014

C - d'Arnaud

1B - Encarnacion

2B - ???

3B - Lawrie

SS - Escobar

LF - ???

CF - Rasmus

RF - Bautista

DH - Lind

SP - Morrow

SP - Hutchison

SP - Alvarez

SP - Syndergaard

SP - Stroman/Wojciechowski/Nolin

Its a good start and there's a ton of payroll flexibility. Also We still have Nicolino and Marisnick in the system. Not outstanding for the 5th year of a rebuild though. Like 75-80 wins probably.

Right

It would have taken some money via free agency to plug those holes. That was supposedly his plan - the core, the cheap talent from the minors coming up. There would have been lots of money available with that cheap starting rotation. Maybe 1 key trade for a top end starter. and 1-2 free agent signings could take the team you list a contender.

Although now that I've typed that and looking at the "core", there are still some of the problems we have now. Lawrie??? Lind??? Alvarez?? Still some question marks going in to 2014 even if you fill 2B and LF with solid players.
