He's exactly what we need. Someone who's deadly from 3, can rebound, and has the length to (learn) to defend. If the Raps end up resigning FVV, those 2 would be nasty from range playing off each other. He probably takes over from Trent Jr after next year.

I'm serious though, just wondering what the folks that know more than me think. That suit though, lol.

Yeah an athletic shooter was much needed last year. They were far too reliant on FVV and Trent Jr. for this type of scoring last year, and Gary Trent Jr. f***ing sucks.

OG can kind of do it but he is more of a stationary 3PT shooter from the corners.

Hopefully this Dickhead can step in and be about as useful as Trent Jr. as a rookie, with a developmental chance for more. It looks like he has some hops and a propensity to dunk and get to the rim from time to time. Scouting report say his defense isn't great and his lateral movement is weak. But apparently his shot is perfect.

The prevailing opinion seemed to be that he's the best shooter in this draft class. That in itself probably warrants a late lottery pick, but sounds like he has a lot more than just that single dimension going for him. I won't pretend to be overly informed, but sure seems like an ideal pick.

Most three balls ever made in a season by a Kansas Jayhawk, and 4th most points - quite a storied program, kid can ball.

If Dick is really that good of a shooter to go along with him being 6'8'' that seems like a good pick.

How did the Nuggets and Kings do? Don't know a ton about the NBA but those are my "teams."

Wait, Jokic was worth 26 WAR in an 82-game season? That's the difference between 54-28 and 28-54. Basketball is wild.

Makes sense to me, haha.

LMAO. I knew there was inflation but this is ridiculous.

LMAO he ain't worth $40M per season. It's a short term deal which is the only plus.

I love VanVleet and everything he did with the Raps! Wish him all the best obviously. But it was clear this past season he wasn't the same player, declining and injury prone.

It's the NBA. You're worth $30M in the NBA.

I, of course, am worth $50M.

I understand NBA contracts are crazy high AAV because yeah you only have 5 starters on the floor and usually maybe your 6th or 7th best player make some good coin as well. Every year its like inflation. Like looking back now, signing Pascal Siakam at 4 years/$136M wasn't all that bad given the increase in players salaries every year.

If VanVleet is worth $40M per season, how much is someone like Jokic worth?

Going up the ladder a couple pegs, Jalen Brown will probably get $60m as he made a 2nd All NBA team. So I’m not sure what a player can max out at if they’re first team, $70m?

He's worth over $100m but they have a cap as well so the max is somewhere in the 60s if I'm not mistaken right now

This might be the worst contract dished out in the "new era" of sports where front offices supposedly have the inside track to efficiency stats and can value players properly. Even if FVV is underrated relative to his stats and perception, paying over $40 million per year completely throws it out the window. Plus it's a matter of timing. FVV makes great sense as a good 4th option on a contender, like he was on the Raptors when they won. This spending moves the needle absolutely zero for Houston for next year and likely the year after. By the time they actually get good (assuming some of their young guys pan out) and could use the cap space for internal and FA contracts, they'll have a 30+ VanVleet clogging up the payroll. Just dumb. So dumb that it actually stings less that the Raptors lose him.

Now as for the journey man the Lakers picked off the scrap heap that the Raptors just gave a 2 year contract to, let's hope they know something we don't and it's not just another desperate Baynes-like overpay. Raptors don't exactly have a sparkling history when it comes to FA picks so I'm not optimistic.

Losing Fred and still trying to run it back is insanity. They were a .500 team with Fred last season. They lost the play in game at home against an awful Bulls team. Now they are bringing the same group back except replacing FVV with an inferior player. Not sure what they are expecting the outcome to be.

Ya. I just don't get what they're doing. This is a superstar driven league. You really can't win without one. Raptors aren't going to sign one... Trading for one is challenging... You really need to draft one, and they refuse to bottom out and draft high. This team has some interesting pieces, but they'll likely just remain interesting. Feels like they are ok with settling for mediocrity right now.

Raptors going be mediocre again next season keeping the status quo. Maybe win between 35-40 games and have a chance at a play-in.

Only way they can get a superstar is if they trade for one (which they won't entertain moving Barnes) or they draft a superstar.

Just read that Bronny James (18 year old son of LeBron James) went into cardiac arrest yesterday while on court.

Yikes!
