It seems like the refs have more influence on basketball than any other of the major sports. It's one of its frustrating aspects.

Agreed. Could you imagine if Bautista played basketball instead of baseball?

James Johnson is the best. Not only is he giving us a great effort on both ends, but when it's time to act tough and show up for his teammates, he'll be there.

Lol, Greivis hits a 3, runs back, laughs in Matt Barnes' face, and puts a hand on him, to have it slapped away. Just ... lol

Whenever Vasquez always plays the point out of necessity in garbage time and acts like a D-League player. He always chucks up as many shots as he can and never gives the Stiesmas and Fields' a touch.

Apparently Silver is thinking about changing the playoff structure so that that top 16 teams make the playoffs.

He's thinking of investigating it and taking a look. Not planning on changing it.

Would be a mistake imo, as they said on the broadcast you need the regional interest every year or you run the risk of losing huge portions of the country's interest in the game if those regional teams are all bad one or two years.

There's certainly room to have the conversation though and try to make the system better

They're prolly doing this because they can't have another OKC miss the playoffs and miss out on the ratings that RW and KD would get.

if you want to look at it like that, it's more valuable for OKC to miss the playoffs because its more likely that Russ and KD go to bigger markets

Refs have a huge influence in football and soccer especially. I'd say those along with basketball are the worst three.

Most of the teams in the East have been really good this season. It's not an awful conference as it once was. Toronto, Atlanta, Cleveland, Chicago, Washington are all serious contenders. Miami might miss the playoffs in the East, so if Silver's main motive to change the playoff structure because OKC could miss the playoffs, then what about a team like the Heat. I know they don't have KD and RW, though Wade and Bosh still grab a lot of spotlight in the NBA.

lol No. Most of the teams in the East have been really bad this season. Miami's terrible, thats why they might miss the playoffs. The 10th team in the West is clearly better than the 6th team in the East.

Well the Bucks have a better record so far, though agree OKC is a much better team on paper when healthy than them. The East isn't as bad as it once was. Sure the 7th and 8th seed might be .500 or with losing records, though the teams at the top of the conference are contenders for a title. OKC missed KD for a long period of time, and Westbrook has been injury prone missing time as well. Obviously when those two are healthy, OKC is a top team, though there is a reason why they are .500 this season. KD has only played 23 games and RW has only played 36. Sorry but if the reasoning for this decision is because OKC might miss the playoffs, well thats not a valid reason. Injuries are part of the game.

Well I dont think they should change the format, I just think the East is a joke. The West is a grind every night while the East has a bunch of mediocre to flat out terrible teams. The number 1-2 seeds in the East will get a s***** Miami or Charlotte team most likely while in the West it's probably going to end up being the Clippers and the Pelicans or the Thunder

Soccer also occurred to me as another bad one. It's not that there's necessarily a lot of penalties but with how low scoring it is, the penalties can easily decide a game, not to mention the more subtle influence that decisions made or not made on free kicks have on the flow of the game.

Aka Joke vs GOAT.

Please don't come into this thread again. It's usually a good thread.

Aka Joke vs GOAT.

I don't understand the point of this post.

Was anyone unaware of the Raptors poor franchise history and Popovich's Spurs' relative dominance?

Haven't posted in a few days:

1. So apparently James Johnson is good at basketball

2. So apparently James Johnson is much more useful at the 4/5 on the second unit than Psycho T.

Fully expect to see JJ back his normal 3 MPG tonight.

If JJ qualified he'd be 3rd in the NBA for TS%.

JV and Amir are also now 5th and 6th in the NBA for TS%.

TL;DR we have three incredibly efficient scorers who don't get nearly enough looks.

Posted

JJ has completely transformed himself since his last stint here:

2011-2012: 56% of shots from closer than 10 feet

This season: 78% of shots from closer than 10 feet

The guy knows his jump shot sucks so he's doing everything he can to score at the most efficient rate possible. He should be REWARDED for this. If he had a 3 ball/was more focused on hanging out in the corner he'd clearly be looked upon more favorably by this coaching staff for whatever reason.

How the f*** can they not give these guys more looks?
