Metallijay Verified Member Posted June 27, 2013 Posted June 27, 2013 Any news on when Morrow might return? I expect rogers will hit a dead are eventually, so we need another pitcher.
wilko Old-Timey Member Posted June 27, 2013 Posted June 27, 2013 He hasn't been throwing yet, I'd say sometime after the All Star break, but it could be later.
KSaw Verified Member Posted June 27, 2013 Posted June 27, 2013 Last I heard was that he's going to play catch sometime between Sunday and Wednesday and they'll re-evaluate then. It's not looking good from what I'm hearing though. At earliest he'd be 2 weeks from throwing off a mound (if he's progressing) and then a trip to Florida to work with Rick Langford and then rehab (again, if all is going well) and then back. I'd say August 1st at the earliest, late August more likely and out for the season a possibility.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted June 27, 2013 Posted June 27, 2013 It's looking bad. His rehab assignment is on hold. http://www.torontosun.com/2013/06/18/brandon-morrows-soreness-returns

JaysWS2013 Verified Member Posted June 27, 2013 Posted June 27, 2013 Well after happ comes back, wang if he continues to pitch well will be in morrows place.
TheHurl Site Manager Posted June 27, 2013 Posted June 27, 2013 Brandon Morrow (forearm) has yet to resume throwing. Morrow underwent an MRI last week which revealed in inflammation in his forearm. The Blue Jays want to make sure all the inflammation is gone before he resumes throwing. There's no timetable for his return. Jun 24 - 5:15 PM

Just speculation but, he'll be back at some point this season IMO.

KSaw Verified Member Posted June 27, 2013 Posted June 27, 2013 Gotta say I do shake my head at Blue Jays media releases sometimes. Love how they call this forearm inflamation. Morrow has tendinitis in his forearm and he is diabetic. The reality is that after he tries throwing the likely outcome is his arm being immobilized for 3-4 weeks and then he'd have to start from scratch on a strengthening program before rehab. This is why I think that he might be done for the year.

There's no rush and if they jump the gun and the swelling goes right down and he feels great, they wasted a few weeks of using him. Hope springs eternal right?

G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted June 27, 2013 Posted June 27, 2013 AA is in a tough spot Do you bid for a starter at the deadline and then have "excess arms" in September, and lose a top prospect in the deal? Do you ride it out for now expecting recoveries from Morrow Drabek Hutchison and keep the farm intact? You can be wrong either way
flafson Verified Member Posted June 27, 2013 Posted June 27, 2013 They should put Morrow on the velocity program ASAP IMO. Maybe he will be ready in a couple of months.

You can be wrong either way Happ, Drabek and Hutch all have options but you can probably time their 30 days of rehab without wasting it. You get them in the expanded rosters in September without using an option and use the rehab to decide just how many major league hitters they face. If AA feels he needs an arm at the deadline he'll get it without ever thinking about those three at least. Wang and Rogers shouldn't cross his mind either. It wouldn't surprise me if Hutch is the trade chip though.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted June 27, 2013 Posted June 27, 2013 We also need to remind ourselves that Kyle Drabek really wasn't very good, even before he went down with his 2nd TJS...
KSaw Verified Member Posted June 27, 2013 Posted June 27, 2013 Excess arms in September? No problem! The roster is expanded. Hutch has an outside shot of maybe 2-3 starts this year but Drabek has none. Morrow may be back but not before Rogers is out of innings. He has to trade. And honestly, though Peavy will still be out a few weeks, he can be had for as little as Nessy and Pillar. And I don't want to hear Pillar is a stud bs. He's a future 4th outfielder on a contender. He is Jim Negrych with more power. The ChiSox would be happy to get rid of the contract.

Wilnercibia Verified Member Posted June 27, 2013 Posted June 27, 2013 Morrow is brittle as f***, we better hope for Happ or one of the young guys like Drabek to step in...Cannot rely on Morrow, as good as his stuff can be.
KSaw Verified Member Posted June 27, 2013 Posted June 27, 2013 You'd have to think Hutch + Osuna/Stroman + is AA's best chance at landing an ace w/o moving a Sanchez or a core piece. Not even close. Garza is a rental who wouldn't get a qualifying offer coming off his injuries. Peavy would be inexpensive too as the ChiSox are dumping the salary. Those are as close as you can get to an ace, as Lee has Toronto on his no trade list. Step down a notch to Feldman and he's also a rental. Norris would cost some talent but not the kind you're suggesting. He simply isn't elite.

Outside of Peavy I doubt any of those guys are a T.O. target and I wouldn't give up Hutch, Stroman (unless you think he is a reliever) or Osuna for Peavy. I wasn't referring to a rental player or just at the deadline either. This off-season, next season, it doesn't really matter. Hutch + specs is AA's best chance at landing an ace w/o moving Sanchez.
Metallijay Verified Member Posted June 27, 2013 Author Posted June 27, 2013 For my buck there is no such thing as excess arms in MLB, that's a good problem to have. Especially with the injuries the jays have had lately.

I hate athletes who put cities in their no trade list, be thankfull your making millions in MLB. If the jays have a good shot at the post season do you think LEE would wave that no trade clause? Doubt we get him anyway, jsut a question.
DuckDuckGose Verified Member Posted June 27, 2013 Posted June 27, 2013 I wonder if one of Scherzer or Bailey could be available at some point. Only because they are both about to get PAID when they are UFA's in 2015. Those are the kind of guys I'd be targeting if I were to move Osuna.

If only the Jays had tried to buy low on Bailey a few years ago, that would've been sweet. Here's hoping Hutch can approach his level.
