Boyd is nuking AA, has 17 starts at that level now, and is 24. He really could be called up any day.

Who can we shed from the 25-man for Boyd and Norris?

The only two relievers I can see are Francis and Tepera.

But we need a long-man, unless you consider Hendriks to be the long-man/7th inning guy.

edit: forgot that Norris in the rotation means bumping Estrada to long relief.

Sounds like Sean Nolin last year

Nolin wasn't consistently throwing that hard. He was still mainly sitting 89-92.

And then there's the fact that Boyd has a 10.6 K/9 rate, Nolin was at around ~8.2 and Boyd even has a better BB rate.

i'm just saying to watch out for the hype on any fringe prospect due to minor league performance. He wasn't included in any top 100 prospect lists, he barely made the Jays top 20.

if jays are lucky he could turn out to be a fifth starter or another BP arm

who cares if he didn't make any top 100 lists? Plenty of players go on to become MLB regulars after not being considered a "prospect". This is a LHP who's profile has taken a step forward this year (Velo from 89-91 to 92-94 T95) with + command, deception and at least average secondary offerings. There is legitimate reason to be interested.

you can be interested, however he at best will be a 5th starter.

potential like Norris, Hoffman, Osuna, Castro or even Sanchez just isn't there

This guy might not have the draft pedigree but his stuff had gotten better every year and he's dominating AA. He's a very good prospect. Top 5 if he doesn't lose rookie eligibility

Hutchison was a 15th round selection, #460 overall. Boyd, 6th round, #175 overall.

Boyd > Hutchison

Yes the minor leaguer > Major Leaguer with success

Flores in NH seems to be having himself a decent start to the season. Is there a shorter player in pro-ball?

The velocity jump is nice, but he still doesn't have a put-away pitch. His ceiling may be something like J.A. Happ.

What's Boyd's secondary pitches like? We all know he's got a plus fastball and deception but he's gonna need good secondary pitches if he wants to succeed in the majors.

He has nothing that projects as much more than average or slightly above average, which is his main problem.

Shane Dawson , what the book on him?

Should I be excited by what he has been doing this year?

Prospect or flash ?

He's not really much. Deceptive LHP with a mid to high 80s fastball, not a very exciting prospect.

A #5 sp if things work out

Rowdy Tellez with a big night...4 for 5 with 3 doubles and a home run. Do the Jays finally have a bat worth watching?
Posted

He doesn't have a put away pitch? He has 36 strikeouts in 34 innings what am I missing here!

Plus he's only 21 too, I believe can he not add a few ticks before getting to the bigs or do you believe that he has maxed out already?

Posted
He's a #5 right now. #3 if things work out.

He's going to be a #3 with no plus offspeed pitch? Alright.

Is JA Happ a #3? Thats another lefty who can throw reasonably hard but lacks a real plus secondary offering which is why he'd get into lots of long pitch counts.
