bzapple Verified Member Posted May 8, 2013 Posted May 8, 2013 Apparently it's been a lingering issue for about a month but they're just now doing something about it. Likely explains his terrible start.
TheHurl Site Manager Posted May 8, 2013 Posted May 8, 2013 I'm trying to embed Tweets but I guess I am just the old guy that doesn't understand this internetz stuff. Halladay will have surgery to clean up labrum/bone spurs. If surgery reveals same, has good chance to pitch this yr
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted May 8, 2013 Posted May 8, 2013 Halladay will have surgery to clean up labrum/bone spurs. If surgery reveals same, has good chance to pitch this yr I wonder if this is the cause of his lack of velocity, or if Halladay trying to throw harder to compensate for the velocity drop is responsible for this? That's the big question here, isn't it?
GD Old-Timey Member Posted May 8, 2013 Author Posted May 8, 2013 Yep lol. I think I supported it at the time too, wanted to cash in on Bautista. Was this before FIP and xFIP were widely recognized or something? What were other trades people were conjuring up for Bautista? I wasn't really a part of any boards at the time.
digiblader Verified Member Posted May 8, 2013 Posted May 8, 2013 Attendance is so bad in Miami, they're going Oakland-style and closing parts of the park. http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/mlb-big-league-stew/miami-marlins-closing-upper-deck-mostly-empty-stadium-150201465.html We have games here in Toronto that easily exceed the 27,000 people that apparently Miami's capacity will drop to with the closure of the upper deck. Of course, in the early 2000s, we did have the upper deck tarped for a time--see Manny Ramirez's 500-level HR in 2001.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted May 8, 2013 Author Posted May 8, 2013 Bautista was never really on the open market, the Giants were the only team rumoured to be involved. Sanchez struck out 200 batters in 2010 and pitchers can succeed with a 11.8 BB% - he was "effectively wild". 4.00 FIP is pretty good too and Sanchez was supposedly still improving. 4.00 is average. I mean, I see where you guys were coming from, and I've always liked Sanchez (and want to sign him now), but I was never really in favor of trading Bautista. I was crushed when we didn't trade Tallet or Overbay though, haha.
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted May 9, 2013 Posted May 9, 2013 Red Sox and the Twins have combined for 16 runs and it's only in the top of the 2nd...
digiblader Verified Member Posted May 9, 2013 Posted May 9, 2013 Webster didn't get out of the 2nd inning(8 ER, 2 HR), and Doubront hasn't been much better.
Metallijay Verified Member Posted May 9, 2013 Posted May 9, 2013 Boston is falling back like I figured they would.

Sanchez seemed so promising and the just fell off a cliff.
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted May 9, 2013 Posted May 9, 2013 ... and the Astros hold on for the win. Jose Veras comes into a no-out first-and-third jam and gets a strikeout and DP to end the game. Angels hit into FOUR double plays, allowing Astros pitchers to throw only 93 pitches despite 10 baserunners. 1st draft pick battle

willhs14 Verified Member Posted May 9, 2013 Posted May 9, 2013 can't believe Travis Snider is still having zero HR. and he's hitting only .207 last 10 games with 2 BB
OtisNixonFan Verified Member Posted May 9, 2013 Posted May 9, 2013 Haha Vernon Wells playing 3rd base... How'd that go down?
TheHurl Site Manager Posted May 9, 2013 Posted May 9, 2013 Vernon at the hot corner and made an assist. Bud the Stud Norris is pretty good when pitching in Houston.
TheHurl Site Manager Posted May 9, 2013 Posted May 9, 2013 How'd that go down? http://i.minus.com/ilxXoFuVbwuDy.gif Not sure if it was an injury or double switch
GD Old-Timey Member Posted May 9, 2013 Author Posted May 9, 2013 V-Dub is better at the hot corner than Mark DeRosa. Sigh.

TheHurl Site Manager Posted May 9, 2013 Posted May 9, 2013 it will go nowhere but I'm sure that game will be protested

vdartanian Verified Member Posted May 9, 2013 Posted May 9, 2013 Uggggh....MLB has massacred ability to use technology to facilitate their officiating....f*** the traditionalists! (oh look the umpire made a mistake...isn't that quaint?) Isn't the whole reason for having an umpire on the field is to ensue the game is called according to the rule book. You don't need these ass clowns on the field to do that anymore. MLB has the ability to significantly minimize umpire error, but instead chooses to sit on their hands, while every SNAFU gets replayed 1000x times on the net. I'm tired of watching calls called strikes that are 12 inches off the plate, and strikes called balls which are right down the chute, but are improperly "framed" by some jagoff catcher...and To screw something up after having access to review it on instant replay is just embarrassing.
Captain Adama Old-Timey Member Posted May 9, 2013 Posted May 9, 2013 Glen Perkins is a pretty cool guy. Eh, strikes guys out, likes math and doesn't afraid of anything. http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/qa-glen-perkins-a-twin-his-fip-and-math/
bzapple Verified Member Posted May 9, 2013 Posted May 9, 2013 Kazmir looking pretty good today; no runs, no walks, 8 K's through five innings.
TheHurl Site Manager Posted May 9, 2013 Posted May 9, 2013 Scotty Kaz turning back the clock. Fister hit one, walked one. Still has more HBP than walks.
torontofan Verified Member Posted May 10, 2013 Posted May 10, 2013 What happened in the NYY vs COL game today? Was there a rain delay? Seen both pitchers only went 4 innings even though they were pitching well, but game day didn't have anything about a delay.

digiblader Verified Member Posted May 10, 2013 Posted May 10, 2013 (edited) Lackey just committed a bad throwing error.. and cost his Sox a lead... 5-2 Twins right now, with a HR by young Oswaldo Arcia--those Twins are going to be dangerous in the future, once they improve their pitching. They've given Boston a ride.. Boston's now in danger of losing 6 of their last 7, and handing the lead to Baltimore and the NY Yankees, while helping us Jays regain ground. UPDATE: 5-3 after Nava gets an RBI single. Edited May 10, 2013 by digiblader Update
