  1. Wonder how long before the mainstream media starts to ask “should the blue jays sign Bo and not Vladdy”
  2. Exactly. The only benefit with Yarborough was he could soak up innings so if you were in a blowout you could put him out there and have him throw 3 innings and save other arms. Instead they put Green out in a blowout and then end up having Garcia pitch today down 4 runs in the 8th. And going into game 4 the pen already feels overworked with a rotation that just lost a SP possibly for weeks/months. Schneider hasn’t done well managing the pen but it’s not his fault Barnes and Lovelady can’t even get 3 outs without imploding. There is zero reason they should be on the team because they can’t even provide length out of the pen, not to mention being terrible.
  3. This bullpen is complete ass. Get Lovelady and Barnes shipped out immediately.
  4. Bats I don’t think looked nearly as bad as the statline suggests but man the pitching just full out sucked. Tons of meatballs and orioles even barely missed on a couple other pitches or it could have been even worse. Mullins hit 2 tanks and in his last at bat hit a foul ball down the line off the facing of the 5th deck lol. One game doesn’t make or break a season by any means but I wonder how many teams made the playoffs after losing by 10+ runs on opening day.
  5. Wonder if Shapiro did sign an extension they aren’t publicly saying it because Atkins didn’t so they don’t want the public to jump on why Atkins isn’t signed but Shapiro is narrative. I feel like everyone isn’t dumb and knows Atkins is in more of a make or break year but I can see why they wouldn’t want it to be a distraction.
  6. Well its a good think the Jays signed Kirk before this contract came out, thats for sure. People thought I was crazy for suggesting Kirk would get more than 15M a season and Raleigh who is older just got 23M for 31-33. Raleigh is the better player but given the age difference I don't think it would be crazy for Kirk to outperform him for the life of these contracts.
  7. But even Pop had a 105 location+ and was beyond awful last year. So does it fail to take into account how pitches tunnel with each other etc etc or is it solely just grading each pitch on velo/movement? I guess its useful in looking in a vacuum at certain pitches but really isn't useful in telling if a player is good or not?
  8. I feel like stuff+ is kinda overrated. I haven't seen a true study about it or anything but feels like I've seen a lot of guys who grade out well with the metric who just aren't that good. Zach Pop I think graded out really well and its pretty clear he's sucked for a while.
  9. Lol I know, also meltdowns over Kirk signing a good contract. I don't even bother wasting my time with a lot of these posts when its clearly trolling.
  10. I'm not too worried about him, but I do wonder if he gets off to a bad start that he feels that internal pressure and starts to press/chase pitches leading to worse plate appearances.
  11. Looking at Vladdy's ST numbers he's back to hitting a lot of balls into the ground. 55% GB rate with a 29% FB rate is pretty gross. ST numbers have been proven to not be an indicator of the season but for a guy who is wanting to be paid like a Superstar, a stumble out of the gates and he might be feeling a ton of pressure.
  12. This literally looks like the same replies on Twitter to the contract with the line right after it saying "BUT SIGN VLADDYYY"
  13. Of course it's a great signing, pretty sure I was one of the first people on here to suggest the Jays should have signed him to an extension. Add in that its a bargain AAV and I think the Jays got a steal. Yeah I f***ed up on the age of him becoming a FA. I still think he gets more than 12.5M a year on the open market in 2 years. Vladdy while extremely talented you could argue is less valuable to this Jays team than Kirk given the Jays other catching options and people want to throw 450M at him lol.
  14. He would get way more than 12.5M a year over a 4 year deal on the open market as a 3 WAR catcher at 26 lol.
  15. Schneider just said it's Barnes and Lovelady who got the final 2 spots. Not going to lie the pen looks pretty weak to start the season and kinda concerning given how bad it was last year.
  16. I don't really understand the viewpoint of "this is good for Kirk as he enters FA after his age 31 season". As good as Kirk is I have a hard time seeing him even being a starting C at 33 so I doubt he gets paid much after this contract. Aging curves will be even more evident 5 years from now and especially so for catchers. Given Kirk is undersized and has a body type that likely doesn't age well I'm not sure teams are going to pay him that much. Kirk very likely could have done better in FA but turning down 58M guaranteed when he hasn't made that much $ in his career is a tough decision to make. (Vladdy should take notes). Great deal for Toronto getting the prime of his career without paying for the decline years.
  17. AL East: Yankees AL Central: Guardians AL West: Astros NL East: Braves NL Central: Brewers NL West: Dodgers AL Wild Card: Blue Jays, Red Sox, Orioles NL Wild Card: D'Backs, Mets, Phillies AL MVP- Bobby Witt Jr NL MVP- Ohtani AL CY Young- Skubal NL CY Young- Webb AL ROY- Roman Anthony NL ROY- Sasaki
  18. Barger probably deserved to make the team especially with how good of a spring he had. At the same time Roden did as well and Straw hitting RH and being able to play a good CF probably made the difference. Jays must be comfortable with Wagner's ability to play 3B and less so with Barger ability to play there. I think you play Wagner at 3B vs RHP with Roden in LF and Santander at DH and Lukes in CF. Against LHP Ernie plays 3B with Straw in CF and Schneider/Santander at LF/DH.
  19. If they keep the same type of challenge system they had in Spring, he likely improves it given how many he got right.
  20. Hey the Jays finally made a good signing. I was clamouring for them to do a deal like this. Seems like they gave him an extra year or two for a lower AAV and no club options, all guaranteed. Kirk is probably not a guy you want after 31 so you get his prime for a good number.
  21. Feels like that’s just the reality of pitching. Aaron Sanchez was a similar situation. Some guys best year is their second or 3rd season and they may never get back to that point.
  22. I think one thing you are overlooking is baseball is played in the Summer and it’s so hot there. Plus I would bet 80% of the people in the city are all Dodgers fans already. With the hockey team not many people followed hockey or were fans of the teams before so they hopped on the bandwagon pretty quickly. The location is on the strip and the stadium is pretty small relatively speaking so I do think selling tickets won’t be too hard for them. I highly doubt they would sell you season tickets to begin with though. You probably would need a Vegas address or at least one close to the area. I inquired about Utah HC tickets last year and they wouldn’t sell to people without a Utah address.
  23. I can see Vladdy not wanting to admit defeat and resigning in Toronto in FA if it’s less than what they offered this offseason. Just the optics of it would look bad and I can completely see him going elsewhere because of that. Now if they offer him 350 and everyone is at 300 he probably goes back to the Jays but not so sure if the total is 10-20M on the same years. Vladd my is also completely delusional if he thinks he’s getting Juan Soto money. He would have to put up like a 10 War season with something like a 220 wRC+ and less than 10% strikeout rate for him to get that. I think there is a better chance of him putting up a 3 war season than one above 6, in which case he probably signs a short term deal with opt outs after each year.
  24. This looks pretty good. As long as Wagner can play adequate defence at 3B he should start there vs RHP. That Lineup actually seems pretty good taking advantage of platoons and when ahead in the game you can sub Ernie in for defence.
  25. I think that has more to do with people and more specifically the younger generation just not wanting to go out to sporting events as much. People will still go the big games (home opener, weekend games, playoffs) but a Wednesday in April or May? People just don’t care as much/don’t find it worth the money/hassle of dealing with Toronto traffic. Also the demographics of downtown has changed a ton in 10 years. Way more foreign people now, who probably don’t watch/care about baseball. That said the Jays did a good job of attracting corporates for their expensive seats. With companies being able to write off the tickets as an entertainment expense, lots of companies will buy the tickets for that. Having those 300-500 dugout tickets sold at an average of $250 a ticket is a lot more important than 5K extra fans in the 500 level.
