  1. Would be nice if you could pull off a 2022 Matt Chapman type trade and consolidate a few of these average type players into an above average/star player. Obviously that trade worked out really well and the prospects the Jays gave up haven't amounted to much but that's kind of the trade the Jays need right now.
  2. I’ve been saying this since the winter! Kirk is one of the most important players on the team, especially since the downgrade to second on the depth chart is such a drop off. Even if you have to overpay a little on an extension ($17-20M a year for his FA years) it’s better than trying to be too cute and risk losing him in FA after next season. If he puts up a 3-4 win season without an extension he’s very likely just going to test FA given he’s so close.
  3. For sure there is still a lot of Spring left but I'd say Roden is a much better option than Loperfido who still looks hopeless at the plate.
  4. Oh I’m not saying he only deserves a spot cuz of the ST numbers, but when the GM praises/puts pressure singling you out in the media and then you have the type of spring he’s having it’s a bad look to not reward him especially when he’s clearly one of the best 26 players on the team. Hes also 25 and was born the same year as Vladdy which is kind of hilarious. Not like there is really anything else to prove in AAA.

Did MLSE increase the price on your seats? Heard they increased some leafs tickets like 20% lol. Basically have gone up double in the last 6-7 years which is insane. And they give season ticket holders like nothing of value for being a season ticket holder lol.
  6. Roden absolutely deserves a spot. You can say what you want about ST stats being meaningless etc.. but given the way he has performed in Spring he more than deserves to make the team. His numbers are video game type numbers and he hasn't even struck out yet.
  7. Ryan Burr also going to start on the IL with a shoulder injury so the bullpen definitely has taken a hit. Robertson makes a lot of sense, you don't want to go into the season with bums like Zach Pop on the roster.

Sens did pretty well I think getting Cozens, Gilbert and a 2nd for Norris and JDB. Norris was injury prone and his contract at 7.9M was pretty ugly, you could have made the case they were better off just getting rid of that deal for nothing. Cozens has underachieved but lots of guys seem to do better once they leave Buffalo so a good gamble to take for Ottawa.
  9. Yeah it seems ownership/FO didn't want to sell. Now whether or not that backfires on them remains to be seen.
  10. I wonder if the Jays even listened to offers on Vladdy at the deadline last year. It kind of feels like Donaldson the last 2 years he was here where they missed the window on moving him. Now I would certainly hope they would get more that a Merryweather type package at the deadline if they sell but you probably could have gotten a haul at the deadline last year.
  11. Yeah there is no upside to signing him to a deal for over 500M. He'd have to have like a 7-8 Win MVP type season for him to get that in FA and even then who knows if a team would actually pay him that. Aren't the owners pushing for a salary cap after the next CBA expires in 2026? With that on the horizon not sure you'd want to be handing out 500M contracts.. I think Jays made the right move on this one.
  12. My definition would be that your grandkids would never have to work/worry about money but I guess it is very subjective person to person. What I was trying to say more though is that a lot of the best kids coming out of the draft these days are coming from wealthy families with 8 figure net worths. To play the highest level youth baseball the costs are 10-20K a year not even including all the travel costs for the families so most of the kids have to come from money. Hockey is the same way, guys like Marner and Hyman came from families with tons of $. Kids who don't come from money usually end up playing basketball or football because they can play for the high school and go to college from there.
  13. I would hardly call Bichette from generational wealth. His dad made like 40M in his career which Bo has made himself before even reaching FA. When you figure taxes and fees take probably half of that there is a lot less than you think. Theres lots of kids coming out of the draft these days whos parents have just as much money. The reality is baseball is super expensive to play now a days so most of these kids on the travel teams come from wealthy families. Obviously the latin americans are different but I'm talking from a Canada/US perspective.
  14. Yeah Varsho just doesn't have value being a DH especially with being weak against LHP. All of his value is tied to being an elite defensive OF.
  15. I just don't see very much I like watching him pitch. Even going back to that Yankees game, it just seems like he's fooling no one. The fastball just gets crushed even with decent velo. And if he can't command his offspeed pitches he's going to really struggle while guys just tee off on him.
  16. Yup exactly. And last year Turner looked like it turned back the clock in April only to fade the next couple of months.. Even Schneider had a really good April and May IIRC but was just anemic in the second half of the season. Pitching I can buy into it a little bit more especially if there is meaningful velocity changes, not so much the results though.
  17. People get way too caught up in ST. Every year there are guys rake in ST and stink in the regular season and vice versa. Santander has a track record of being a good hitter, 3 games in ST isn't going to change that lol.
  18. I just looked up the posting, said 65-75k CDN dollars. I guess it’s more than 50 but that’s not much of a salary/ will go that far in a city like Toronto. Rent alone is like $2200/month to live in a dog crate condo lol.
  19. Reality is being a beat writer is a pretty s***** job. You're probably making like 50K a year and have to work basically every day in the summer.
  20. His numbers were pretty good in Houston so I was somewhat excited. But his numbers since getting the Jays org. have been pretty ugly honestly.
  21. Bloss getting rocked. Lots of people saying how he should factor in this year and hes close to ready for the majors but the fastball looks pretty flat and so far he's been pretty bad with the Jays going back to AAA last year.
  22. Meh, pretty sure Vladdy works out in Tampa and not at the Jays facility either. Barger is another guy who lives in Tampa area but doesn't work out at the Jays facility either. Maybe the players just aren't confident in the coaching/system the Jays have or are worried about their data in some way.
  23. Ernie has had a rough day at 3B.
  24. Isn't it a rotator cuff? As a LHH his right shoulder actually shouldn't make much of a difference in swinging a bat so I don't think the power output should be impacted all that much. I have a terrible left shoulder/rotator cuff and have pretty bad strength when pushing anything above my head yet can swing a golf club with no problem.
  25. I think the big difference is the payroll this regime has had to work with plus the fact there are so many more postseason teams. It really isn't that difficult nor should it be that much of an achievement to make the postseason with a 250M payroll with each league having 7/15 teams make the postseason. Making the postseason when there was 4 playoff teams and the Yankees/Red Sox in their prime would have been a hell of an achievement.
