  1. The pitching does kind of scare me. The depth looks pretty bad and we already have seen a few injuries so far. If Hoffman or Garcia go down it looks really bleak and the bullpen again looks like one of the worst in baseball. I wonder if the Jays will bring up Bloss with a Scherzer IL stint and leave Rodriguez in the pen as his command really holds him back from starting.
  2. I hate the "its not my money" saying I often see (not picking on you specifically cuz I see it everywhere). Reality is the Jays have a budget so sure while its not your $, the Jays spending that money prohibits you from signing other players which could be better for the franchise.
  3. I would say a ligament issue in his thumb is a lot more serious than just :"everything is sore because of old age" It sounds like like it only gets bad after 50 pitches or so he says. Wonder if there is somewhat of a hybrid relief role that can be had. Better that than having him have surgery and miss the season,
  4. What’s the bullpen to start the season? Hoffman Garcia Green Sandlin Little Lovelady/Walker Rodriguez Yarborough If Scherzer starts the season on the IL that likely moves Rodriguez to the rotation and another spot is open. Honestly that bullpen looks pretty shaky. Hoffman and Garcia are elite I would say and Green is pretty good but there’s a big drop off after that. It would be tough to argue that there are more than 3 relievers you could count on to be above average. Wonder if the Jays would try to trade a guy like Leo Jimenez for a good reliever.
  5. Yankees always seem to produce all these relievers with nasty stuff out of no where. All of a sudden you’ll be watching a game and a guy comes out of the pen throwing 98 with a wicked changeup. Jays pitching is certainly going to get tested out of the gates with Scherzer, Burr and Swanson all hurt.
  6. This Scherzer news sounds terrible. All of a sudden you have that and Bowden looking pretty bad this spring and the rotation can unravel pretttyyy quickly.
  7. I feel like the Jays already probably extended their offer another 50M more than their projection system values Vladdy so "an extra 50M from that" is now 100M more than they were going to offer him. You have to set a deadline at some point, also if other players see the team caved and gave out extra $ for Vladdy, does that weak precedent for future negotiations with other players? Just look at Springer barely better than a bench player now in his age 35 season. Vladdy on a 14 year deal could have like 5 sunk years at the end of that contract, not to mention his body could go full Pablo Sandoval. I still think Vladdy isn't getting close to the contract the Jays offered in FA, so if he wants to take the deal the Jays offered then sign, otherwise he runs the risk of getting wayyyy less.
  8. Feels like he needs to hit the ball in the air again and sell out for more power. Last year he ran a 50% GB rate and his pulled ball% was down in 23 and 24. Exit velo numbers seem to be down as well so yeah not a lot of encouraging numbers especially since he's 35.
  9. Yeah I think Springer in CF probably a more likely scenario. I just feel Loperfido over Roden would be a mistake. Sounds like Varsho won’t be a DH and will only be activated once he can play CF, which I agree with.
  10. I think I’d rather have Roden over Loperfido in CF and live with the downgrade on defence. Loperfido really just doesn’t look like he can hit enough to warrant playing time at the MLB level. Roden could be their 4th best hitter so I dont think you want to get too cute with roster decisions when every game is going to matter a ton given the logjam of projected win totals in the AL east. April they are playing a ton of good teams too, so it’s super important to get off to a good start.
  11. Roden is also 25, not likes young and really needs to learn that much. Also an extra year of control when you are past your prime at 32 doesn’t mean that much when his outcome could be like a 3 War platoon OF. Like Joc Pederson would be a best case scenario and he’s signing like short term deals for 15-20M
  12. I think part of the reason why Cohen went so high for Soto was because he was getting a player to leave the Yankees and go to the Mets. I'm sure sticking it to the Yankees was worth a lot of $ on its own for him lol. And I feel like he's not going to have the same desire for Vladdy given what he just did for Alonso, who was homegrown by the org.
  13. I feel like some time with a sports psychologist would be beneficial too. Just having a reliever's mentality and attacking the zone I think would do him well. Cuz when he struggles its a full implosion and the wheels come right off.
  14. My first thought was: Is that Jason Momoa on the mound lol. If Manoah can come back in July-September that would be a huge bonus. That said, I'm not holding my breath and any value he can provide is gravy at this point.
  15. If you brought 2 new teams in at once (which for scheduling they would have to) I just feel it would be such a shock to the system. The teams at the top end likely wouldn’t change that much but the average- bad teams I think you’d really see some guys struggling who just wouldn’t normally be in the majors. And September it would hurt even worse since you’d have guys injured/out for the season. The expansion teams would likely be dreadful too, although if they got creative with the expansion draft, maybe it wouldn’t be so bad.
  16. I’d like to see it and think it would be great for baseball in the country but I can’t see it happening honestly. They would have to build a stadium and you aren’t getting public money like some teams do from city/county down south. It would cost over a Billion dollars to build and could end up being like 1.5-2 Billion CAD. Which is the next biggest challenge- the Canadian dollar. 1 USD=1.45 CAD right now and with all the tariff turmoil it could get worse. Add in the tariff factor if you were to build a stadium (some materials come from states) and that’s how the costs could get ridiculous. Also pretty sure a lot of the construction contracts in Montreal are still run by the Mob there so that could drive it up even more lol. And if you think Toronto has trouble attracting free agents, wait till you tell players they’ll pay even more taxes and live in a city where French is the first language lol.
  17. Actually met him once in Phoenix, was staying at the same hotel as me lol nice guy. His broadcasting I just couldn’t stand though. The one thing that drove me nuts was he asked every question like it was a matter of life and death with these big pauses between sentences.
  18. Forget about Soto the player, if Steve Cohen wasn't the Mets owner no way Soto gets paid over 600M. In all liklihood he would have gotten like 500M but Cohen and his desire to get him plus endless supply of $ just big way more than anyone has ever seen.
  19. Sounds like the owners really want to expand to 2 more cities to get expansion fee money. (2 new teams at 800M each would amount to just over 50M per franchise. So I don't think the owners really want Tampa to move to Nashville as it would take away an expansion site. Curious to see how MLB would handle an expansion draft with 2 or even 1 new team. Baseball is a lot different than the other 3 Major sport leagues with just how many players are in the organization across all the different minor league levels. You'd prolly have to have a major league expansion draft and then a minor league one where teams can only protect "x" number of prospects. Personally I rather not see expansion, I feel the talent level would be stretched pretty thin if you add another team let alone 2. There already are a lot of players who are on MLB rosters who just aren't good enough to be at the MLB level.
  20. Jays should just offer 50M in bonsuses, like 5-10M extra for MVP, Silver slugger etc... If Vladdy really thinks he's worth that, then he has a chance to make that but you gotta actually perform. Jays probably wanted to offer like 400 and then stretched it 450 as a take or leave it offer. There's something to be said for the power of walking away in a negotiation and I can't blame the Jays. I really have a hard time seeing Vladdy getting even 450 in Free agency.
  21. Jays win 86 games but miss the postseason No SP posts over 3 WAR with Francis being out of the rotation by June Varsho has a wRC+ of less than 90 Barger hits 20 HR Santander hits 35 HR Roden is worth 3 WAR and ends up in the leadoff spot Garcia is the best reliever on team and makes ASG
  22. Worst part is I could see him not getting any offers close to that in FA and then not wanting to re-sign with Toronto because it's him not wanting to admit defeat and sign for less than what he was offered previously.
  23. I know what you're saying, and I would try to get him to sign for like 4/60 with a couple club options attached. Considering he comes from Mexico and hasn't made much money yet you think you should be able to lock him up to a pretty team friendly deal. Just would be nice to see this FO make a deal with a player where the moment it's signed you think "thats a good contract". Berrios and Grichuk are really the only 2 players I can think of off the top of my head who they signed before FA to extensions. Berrios deal looks decent, grichuk's wasn't.
  24. Murphy had 3 years of control left and was set to hit FA at 31, while Kirk is 2 years away and hitting FA at 28 so its a little less comparable than you think. The market seems to have gone up a decent amount in the last 2 years too, just look at what Soto got compared to Ohtani the year before. If you don't sign Kirk now, he's probably not going to sign and walk to FA where you're playing with fire. So I'd rather sign his FA years at like 17M per year than try to get too cute with the negotiation. Once a guy hits FA all it takes is one team and maybe Kirk says I'd rather play closer to Mexico and signs with say the Padres.
  25. Pop is infuriating because if you look solely at his fastball and slider they are plus pitches with good velo and movement, yet he just crumbles against any type of pressure it seems and then his command just implodes. His numbers in high leverage and with runners on base are so overwhelmingly bad compared to no one on base, it really does seem like he has an issue between the ears. He also really struggles against LHP so he really is basically just a guy you want to use to eat innings in a blow out. May as well just have him in Buffalo and bring him up when you need a fresh arm because I don't think any Jays fan is confident when he's on the mound lol.
