    At least the at bats have been great. Lots of grinding fouling pitches off and not expanding the zone. Also been lots of hard hit balls. Bo and Giminez tonight prolly have 2 homers if the game is at Roger’s Centre. Plus with the weather the ball isn’t going to carry well so maybe this approach isn’t the worst. If it’s June and they still aren’t hitting for power then we can gripe lol

    You don’t know how a guy is going to be able to throw in this weather so I wouldn’t be bringing in a guy like Sandlin who struggles with command.

    If you are getting 2016-2021 Pujols with the Angels, he's basically not even worth a roster spot at that point. And then it'll be a tough conversation to cut a guy with 150M left on his deal and a Blue Jays record holder.

    I'm not sure he's even going to be playable after 35. Look at guys like Donaldson and Bautista who fell off a cliff at 36, and those guys peaks were way better than Vladdy's. Vladdy is really good because he has such god given abilities/athleticism (swing wise). Once he loses the bat speed it will be ugly and then you have to think how hard pitchers will be throwing 8-10 years from now. The aging decline will likely start even sooner by then given how fast pitchers throw etc.. I really hope I'm wrong and Vladdy rakes but every way I look at it this contract has way so much more downside than upside.

    I guess we will see if this does make Toronto appear more favourably for FA. I'm not sure it changes all that much honestly, the same caveats appear for why it isn't a place a lot of FA want to go to. (Different country, high taxes, less favourable weather) and even with Vladdy the same questions about future outlook remain given the weak farm system.

    The worrying thing is what happens in the first 7 years of the deal lol. We all hope Vladdy can put up 5 WAR per season in the productive years. We already know the last 7 years are going to be basically a write off

    26 is the prime of a baseball player, this is basically the best Vladdy you are going to get from a physical skills pov. Now if he can be smarter/understand how pitchers are attacking him there is certainly more upside for the numbers to be better.

    If Bloss/Yesavage/Manoah/Tiedeman can fill 2 rotation spots Giminez slides over and be a 4 WAR SS/Wagner moves to 2nd Roden becomes a 3 win player Varsho continues to be a 3 Win CF/signs a reasonable extension Develop some relievers/sign a star SP Lots of ifs and things that would have to go right but you get some of those and its not tough to put out a 90-93 win team if the payroll is going to be in the same range.

    I mean Ernie was a couple feet from a homer and Santander on the homestand had a couple 110+ exit velo homer shots go foul. One game could skew the numbers back pretty easily but yeah not pretty so far. Feels like a lot of hittable pitches they've missed on too.

    Hopefully Springer gets moved up/Kirk moved down in the lineup. Lucas vs that stacked Red Sox lineup/monster in LF is an ugly matchup. Hopefully Jays bats come alive.

    Lol adding a full no trade clause is just the kick to the nuts to top it all off. If the Jays ever were going to trade him he basically will control where he wants to go. That said his 10/5 rights would kick in 5 years from now anyway. Kudos to the agent for milking the Jays in this negotiation.

    When you are signing deals to 10+ years there’s always likely to be a recession somewhere in that time frame anyway. A pending strike when the next CBA expires is probably worse risk as you would lose one of the prime years. Also I don’t think baseball contracts really went down after the 2008 housing crisis or the 2000 dot com bubble.

    It is kind of freighting he only has hit one homer since spring training began. And he’s gotten a ton of hittable pitches. Wonder when fans will start to boo him.

    Edward rogers got hosed. over/under of 4.5 WAR for Vladdy this year
