Marte and then Tucker with deferred money to lower the luxury tax hit. Would leave plenty of money to sign a good SP and leverage BP arm, like Imai and Suarez. If the Jays are checking on Marte it's just a baseball FO doing it's due diligence. Doesn't neccessarily mean Bo is gone, just means they aren't sure yet and need to have other options available to them if he does leave. Or yeah, it could also mean they know he's gone and are searching for replacements.

If/when they sign or trade for another starter you just move Lauer to the pen again as the long man and 6th starter. Easy peasy. Berrios contract sucks but performance wise his floor is basically a 1 WAR #5 starter and if you get a bounce back it's gravy. If they trade for Marte, I'd rather land Tucker than retain Bo. In a perfect world the Jays land Imai and he turns into a stud, Yesavage proves to be a legit, sustainable stud, and Ricky T comes back, lights up AAA and by mid season makes his way onto the MLB roster and is also a stud. Three headed SP monster for the next decade.

I imagine the Mets are trying very hard to land Tucker. Not that this trade would make much difference with that.

I wouldn't be mad if they signed Belly, but I'd rather they sign two TOR SP's instead if that's all they could fit in the budget.

Signing Bo and Cease would put the Jays close to 90 win projection.

Just gimme..... - One bat (Bo, Tucker, Bregman) - One TOR SP (Cease, Imai, Suarez) - One high leverge BP arm (Diaz, Suarez, Helsley, Fairbanks) Given there will only be so many teams in serious bidding for some or all of these players (Dodgers, Yankees, Mets, Red Sox, Phillies, Cubs, Jays), and given that the Jays are a proven contender with willingness to spend, we should hopefully be able to land one of each of those guys. And if the Jays are willing to break the bank in 2026, just keep on signing guys haha.

Nah, I'd rather know where the big pieces fall earlier on and have a pretty good idea what the final roster will look like. This slow burn is just months and months of "ifs" and "maybe's". Each to their own I guess.

Teams like TO don't need to take risks like this. They'll go year by year and if he develops into an ace, when the time comes they will happily pay him like an ace.

Depends on how good Bieber and Yesavage are. They both have top of rotation upside. Either way, it was good enough to win 104 games last year with limited contributions from those two key pieces, and with Berrios clearly pitching hurt as the season went on. He's not that far removed from being a 3+ fWAR pitcher and game 1 playoff starter. And the insurance would be having likely one of the best offenses and defenses in MLB.

If they did what I said in the post you quoted, the Jays would have the all the starters they had last season, except they would have Bieber, Yesavage and Lauer right from day one. They'd also have Francis back probably. 1. Gausman 2. Bieber 3. Yesavage 4. Bassitt 5. Berrios 6. Scherzer 7. Lauer 8. Francis That's pretty insane starting pitching depth in it's own right. Especially with the best defense in baseball playing behind them, and an offense that includes Vladdy, Springer, Bo, Tucker, Kirk, Barger, Varsho and Santander.

Who knows, maybe the Jays do have a limit to their spending, but fancy both Tucker and Bo. And if they can land both maybe they just toss $15 million at Bassitt, $10 million at Scherzer and baby the starters all year while the offense pummels the s*** out of everybody. Keep all the big arms somewhat rested and have them all healthy and clicking late in the season for playoff time. Not sure if it was on purpose, but it worked for the Dodgers. Snell, Ohtani and Glasnow hardly pitched last season until later on.

Yep, but he's no longer a prospect. Full time MLB player now, and very similar to Clement. The other one they have similar to Clement is Xavier Edwards.

The Marlins already have two Clements kind of. One of them used to be a Blue Jay. 2+ fWAR middle IF's who get most of their value defensively

The bullpen is interesting to me. Since the start of the off season they've lost quite a bit of the depth. It is a little concerning. Burr, Tate and Sandlin all out righted and gone to free agency. Yimi coming back but is 35 and missed 3/4 of last season. Yariel, Little and Fisher all got progressively worse as the season went on and Little will likely have confidence issues after what happened to him in the post season. I'm sure they'll bring in some good arms to help depth wise, or maybe they have a few in house already. Still though, I'd love to see them bring in a couple good leverage arms if they are going to spend. Suarez 2x30 and Fairbanks 2x16 would look really good on paper. And if Yimi comes back strong the back end of that BP could be killer. CL - Suarez SU8 - Fairbanks SU7 - Hoffman MR - Garcia MR - Varland MR - Flu (L) MR - Little (L) Fisher, Rodriguez, Bruihl, etc

For sure, but it'd be better (in my opinion) to give up something other than Clement to get Alcantara if he's available. If that won't work, then just give up the money it takes to bring in a free agent starter. They should be keeping this team intact and adding to it, not robbing peter to pay paul.
