  1. If they did what I said in the post you quoted, the Jays would have the all the starters they had last season, except they would have Bieber, Yesavage and Lauer right from day one. They'd also have Francis back probably. 1. Gausman 2. Bieber 3. Yesavage 4. Bassitt 5. Berrios 6. Scherzer 7. Lauer 8. Francis That's pretty insane starting pitching depth in it's own right. Especially with the best defense in baseball playing behind them, and an offense that includes Vladdy, Springer, Bo, Tucker, Kirk, Barger, Varsho and Santander.
  2. Who knows, maybe the Jays do have a limit to their spending, but fancy both Tucker and Bo. And if they can land both maybe they just toss $15 million at Bassitt, $10 million at Scherzer and baby the starters all year while the offense pummels the s*** out of everybody. Keep all the big arms somewhat rested and have them all healthy and clicking late in the season for playoff time. Not sure if it was on purpose, but it worked for the Dodgers. Snell, Ohtani and Glasnow hardly pitched last season until later on.
  3. Yep, but he's no longer a prospect. Full time MLB player now, and very similar to Clement. The other one they have similar to Clement is Xavier Edwards.
  4. The Marlins already have two Clements kind of. One of them used to be a Blue Jay. 2+ fWAR middle IF's who get most of their value defensively
  5. The bullpen is interesting to me. Since the start of the off season they've lost quite a bit of the depth. It is a little concerning. Burr, Tate and Sandlin all out righted and gone to free agency. Yimi coming back but is 35 and missed 3/4 of last season. Yariel, Little and Fisher all got progressively worse as the season went on and Little will likely have confidence issues after what happened to him in the post season. I'm sure they'll bring in some good arms to help depth wise, or maybe they have a few in house already. Still though, I'd love to see them bring in a couple good leverage arms if they are going to spend. Suarez 2x30 and Fairbanks 2x16 would look really good on paper. And if Yimi comes back strong the back end of that BP could be killer. CL - Suarez SU8 - Fairbanks SU7 - Hoffman MR - Garcia MR - Varland MR - Flu (L) MR - Little (L) Fisher, Rodriguez, Bruihl, etc
  6. For sure, but it'd be better (in my opinion) to give up something other than Clement to get Alcantara if he's available. If that won't work, then just give up the money it takes to bring in a free agent starter. They should be keeping this team intact and adding to it, not robbing peter to pay paul.
  7. ....yeah and there are better ways to add to the SP depth than trading for it and weakening the IF depth. That's the point. Why trade Clement for SP depth when he's a big part of what the Jays do when they can just sign it in free agency or trade from the prospect pool to acquire it?
  8. In my scenario the reason would be to add prospects from the Jays system that they like. And Berrios contract isn't that bad if the Jays eat some of it and he gives them 170 or so innings and 1.5 to 2.0 fWAR
  9. He's a dump dude. Hence why the Jays would have to eat some of the contract. They do it for the prospects they'd be adding. But even as a "dump" Berrios is still a useful mid to back of rotation starter who can chew up the innings Alcantara would have, and he's still projected for 1.6 fWAR. (Alcantara projected 2.5 fWAR) Jays would giving up the prospect capital to gain the upside a guy like Alcantara has if he regains his pre TJS form.
  10. I wouldn't mind seeing the Jays build a trade around Berrios for Alcantara. Jays could eat some money and add in prospects. Still go out and try to add Cease or Imai as well. 1. Gausman 2. Bieber 3. Yesavage 4. Cease / Imai 5. Alcantara Has potential to be the best rotation the Jays have ever had.
  11. I'm hoping so. They'll be a good team even if they don't, but it'd be fun to load up like for at least one season.
  12. I can't speak to Laika's plan, but my plan would be to keep the 94 win team that went to the world series as in tact as possible and add to it via free agency.
  13. If they can't get Bo or Tucker I'd just go with option 5. SS Giminez 2B Clement 3B Barger Plus Schneider (2B), Jiminez and Kasevich as MIF depth. Then load up on pitching if possible.
  14. Hopefully he didn't show up because his teammates and manager all got snubbed on awards they clearly should have won. Schneider should have won manager of the year. Springer should have won come back player of the year. Kirk and Clement should have won GG's.
  15. Tucker AND Bo would be even more incredible, but they'd either have to leave the rotation as it is or go over the highest threshold to add to it. DH - Springer (R) RF - Tucker (L) 1B - Vladdy (R) 2B - Bo (R) LF - Santander (S) C - Kirk (R) 3B - Barger (L) CF - Varsho (L) SS - Giminez (L) Bench - Heineman, Lukes, Clement, Schneider That offense would be unreal good. OF defense takes a hit but the bench would help.
  16. Gotta love gruber. Always riding the short bus around the forum and having his little temper tantrums. Imagine being a fan of one of the winningest teams in MLB the last 5 years (0.543 win percentage) with 4 of 6 playoff appearances, just coming off a dismantling of the mighty Yankees, a thrilling 7 game series win over Seattle avenging 2022, a World series appearance and still running around here complaining while eating cookies off his shoulder. lol Whatever floats your boat fella
  17. Hahaha One of the SEVEN playoff spots available hey meathead? SEVEN? You are so good at outing yourself as a completely clueless donkey.
  18. Santander costs $14 million towards the luxury tax pay roll. Dumping him when his value is at it's lowest makes no sense. I highly doubt his contract is holding the Jays back from signing anyone.
  19. That sucks. Now that I know Varsho is a Boras client, I doubt any extension gets done.
  20. As has been mentioned many times over the years, meathead, there is a lot of luck involved in playoff runs. Baseball is all about large sample sizes, the playoffs are a small sample size. The job of a GM is to build a sustainable winning team that make the playoffs regularly so that they have more chances at having everything clicking at the right time. Since Boss Atkins rebuilt the mess he inherited from AA, they Jays have been winning at a .543 clip for half a decade now. The best stretch in franchise history. They've also made the post season 4 times in 6 years. And as you would expect, it was only a matter of time for playoff success to follow. Keep in mind, they've been having all this success while being in the toughest division in baseball, where teams like Boston and New York also spend big money. You should be smooching Boss Atkins feet, not questioning him, after the team he built just had the best season in over 3 decades and came within an inch of winning the whole ball of wax.
  21. I think they'll get something done. He obviously really likes it with the Jays org, and they have clearly made it a priority to solidify defense through the middle of the diamond. Get him locked in and you are set for a few years with Kirk, Giminez and Varsho down the middle with elite defense. He also unlocked some power and if he is really a 120 wRC+ bat it's not a guy you want to let go. Even with a league average bat he's a keeper at the right price.
  22. No, post lots. Less criticism, more worshipping.
  23. I think y'all should just know your role, sit back and let Boss Atkins cook. Clearly he knows what he's doing.
  24. That's "Boss" to you.
  25. So he's a scumbag piece of trash whatever way you slice it then. Good riddance.
