  1. With as bad as Estrada has been his last 4 outings, I would take my chances of getting something better from someone currently in Buffalo. Would Bolsinger really do worse? I see Harrell has had a couple good outings in AAA, so maybe give him a shot.
  2. Yeah he isn't fooling anyone anymore with that high 90 mph, especially when he can't locate the changeup. Just bad all around. I expect he goes to the DL after this game (not that he is necessarily injured - maybe more just worn out and mentally defeated).
  3. But it was on another poorly placed changeup. Lucky it wasn't hit harder. I wish he would use the curveball more.
  4. Seems he is having a lot of success being aggressive on first pitch fastballs.
  5. You are showing a little snapshot of when they just took the lead in a game. I am talking about the general atmosphere day in and day out. This team reminds me of the 2015 team that was just somewhat aimlessly shuffling along until AA pulled off the big trades and the whole attitude changed. They need to do something to get that killer instinct back that they had the final 2 months of 2015.
  6. And that shows you the problem right there. The team just seems like they are not very enthusiastic and motivated.
  7. Unfortunately the O's came back from being down 5-1 early to win and remain a half game up on the Jays. But things are really bunching up with the Jays and Rays now tied in the loss column. More importantly, the Jays enter the day only 2 back of the 2nd wild card (Indians) in the loss column.
  8. HR/9 rate is up slightly at 1.44, versus 1.19 and 1.18 the previous 2 seasons. Also HR/FB % is up to 12.7 from 8.7 and 9.9 the past two seasons. So he is not getting torched by the long ball like Tanaka. I think his approach of focusing on the 4SFB and CH is getting too predictable, and they are on his stuff and making solid contact too often. He needs to use all his pitches more often. One thing for sure is the Rays REALLY have him figured out, as all 3 times he has faced them so far this season have been disasters (5.0 ip, 5 ER; 6.0 ip, 5 ER; 3.1 ip, 6 ER)
  9. Yeah and the division seems to be up for grabs with Boston the most likely to overhaul New York. But I have been watching the Fangraphs projected season win totals, which are updated daily. And for the first time this season, they now are predicting the Yankees to win the division with 92 W, followed by Boston at 91 w and Jays at 86 W (taking the 2nd WC, beating out the Rays by 3 games).
  10. Looks like 3 back in the loss column for the 2nd wildcard (currently held by the Indians). Big question right now: are the Twins the real deal or will they eventually fade (fangraphs still predicts the latter)?
  11. Just hope he can keep producing. Buck actually mentioned Derek Shelton earlier when discussing Smoak and how he and Jacoby had worked together to help Smoak on his approach and specifically simplifying his mechanics. Seems whatever they have done is paying off.
  12. Totally owned by Axford there.
  13. It was hit by a lefty batter, so must have had some strange backspin from being sliced off the bat. Seemed to act like a batted ball version of a slider with some late break after it hit the top of it's flight path.
  14. I think the point (at least for me) was that the Jays seemed like they were finally getting some momentum and getting healthy, but went on to play awful and get blown out 2 of 3 games at home. So just seemed like they were on the verge of taking a big step back after several steps forward. If they had lost 3 of 4, it would not have been a total disaster, but definitely a big momentum killer. With a split and now going up against some weaker competition, while the Yankees, Red Sox and Orioles will be playing each other, things are looking promising. It's amazing how much difference winning one key game makes.
  15. Looks like he sealed it. Pretty impressive against that strong Diamondbacks lineup.
  16. As good as they have been, the Yankees are 4th in both runs scored and HRs. Interestingly, the Rays currently lead MLB in HRs.
  17. Shut down by another rookie lefty who entered the game with a 4.11 ERA. Only 3 hits, 2 of which came from Maile! Feel bad for the people who paid good money to watch this abomination. Jays are looking like pretenders after 2 embarrassing losses out of 3 games. Winning tomorrow seems like a must at this point.
  18. True but once you lose the first game of a 4 game series you are looking to win 3 in a row and against a good team. So at least getting the split would be acceptable. Nice work by JD and Smoak at the plate tonight. So much for any concerns about JD being rusty! The Jays 2-5 in the order looks pretty strong right now.
  19. OK got it. Sorry I misunderstood your intent. But I am sure there are also plenty of people with the 'grass is greener on the other side' mentality who don't like where they live.
  20. So why you feel the need to single out Alberta? Black gold envy? As far as Canada versus GTA: having lived a number of years in the USA, I see a lot of parallels where in Canada the GTA plays the role of the American "East Coast Elites" of the New York - DC corridor.
  21. Ump called a ball on what should have been strike 3. Can't beat the other team and umps both:mad:
  22. Yeah he gets too in love with his changeup sometimes. He needs to use the curveball and cutter more.
  23. I think my response was more regarding the idea of him being a LOOGY since the results this season don't support it. Biggest plus is only 1 HR in 19 ip. He has really stepped it up which has been huge with the loss of Cecil and the lack of performance of Howell.
  24. actually better results versus RHH so far this season: RHH .217/.321/.304 LHH .276/.412/.321 and he has hit 2 batters on each side of the plate so far
  25. Biggest argument for robo-ump for balls and strikes. Total bias in favor of the all-star hitter/pitcher going up against a no-name. It's like in NBA where you just need to come within 2 inches of touching a star to draw a foul.
