  1. It's bizarre. Goins has wRC+ of 17 with bases empty (99 PA) and 169 with RISP (41 PA). His ISO is .044 with bases empty and .314 with RISP. This is the ultimate example of how SSS can produce some ridiculous stats.
  2. Reasonable amount of regression like we saw last season (2.8 fWAR, 102 wRC+) is one thing. At about $8M per WAR he was earning his pay. But this season has been awful so far with -0.2 fWAR over 37 games. He could still turn it around and put up 1.5-2 fWAR this season, but I won't be holding my breath.
  3. Yeah getting Vogt is a no-brainer. But I was thinking about bringing in a speed guy. It would be great if Pompey or Alford could come in and provide that spark to the offense.
  4. Seems the only part of the team that has not underperformed is the bullpen (although a couple of them have been total dogshit). But offense, defense and starting pitching have all been overall bad. This team needs a trade to inject some new energy into it. They need a guy like Mookie Wilson back in '89 to come in and provide a spark.
  5. Well he hit the single that would have scored JB last inning. But then it would only be a 5 run deficit instead of 6......
  6. A hard hit ball (high likelihood with Smoak) right to the outfielder and with a slow baserunner could lead to an out at the plate on a good throw. I am not defending the stupid decision to steal, just saying it's not a guarantee to score from 2nd on a single. Obviously, that's why having more speed on the basepaths is such an advantage.
  7. It's a dumb play, but you aren't guaranteed to score from 2nd on a single with a relatively slow baserunner. But then that slow baserunner has no business trying to steal 3rd with the team's hottest hitter at the plate.
  8. Yeah JB has .736 OPS and 97 wRC+ in 2017 versus Pearce at .719 OPS and 86 wRC+. BUT in 2016, Pearce was slightly better with an .866 OPS and 136 wRC+ versus Bautista's .818 OPS and 122 wRC+
  9. Really bad. He loses the no-hitter in the 8th on an infield single that went off his glove and dribbled to the SS. Then Miami scores 2 UNEARNED runs in that inning to win the game 2-1. So Scherzer gets an L with 8 ip, 0 ER allowed! Oh and the 2 unearned runs were courtesy of an Adam Lind error (missed catch at 1B).
  10. And no better teams to do it against (besides intradivisional) than the Rangers and Royals.
  11. It's an important game. They are now tied with Rangers with identical 35-36 records. Taking 3 of 4 in their house would be a huge statement and momentum swing.
  12. Yeah maybe the most unsung Jays contributor to date this season.
  13. You called it. 4 RBI already in the 1st inning! Pretty impressive, 6 runs scored with 2 outs.
  14. Yeah my first reaction to seeing the lineup was thinking Biagini is being thrown to the wolves in this one, but it's not like they did anything against a weak opposing pitcher with the regular lineup yesterday.
  15. You want REAL !? Tulo: 36 games, 141 PA, -0.2 fWAR I am not arguing in favor of Goins, but I am not about to throw him under the bus by lumping him in with highly paid vets like Tulo and Bautista who are the real reasons for this team spinning it's wheels.
  16. they are. But I will take the $600k piece of s*** over the $20M one
  17. yeah, he is contributing unlike the $20M anchor currently occupying the SS position ETA: it's not Goins' fault that Travis is made of glass held together with binder twine. Otherwise, Goins would be manning his bench role as backup infielder.
  18. Who the f*** would want Pillar if he keeps playing like he has the past few weeks. Even his defense is now just average.
  19. Funny what a .950 OPS and leading the teams in HRs will do for one's opinion of a player
  20. On the bright side, Smoak is 3 for 3 and just raised his BA to .301
  21. I am talking about better than Estrada over his past 4 outings (including today): Bolsinger 5 games, 25.2 ip, ERA 5.61 Estrada 4 games, 16.1 ip, ERA 12.68 Will Estrada turn it around? Maybe (can't get much worse at least)? Do the Jays have the luxury of carrying him hoping that he does?
  22. You are confusing 'skill' with 'stuff'. Estrada doesn't really have great stuff (although his changeup is a plus pitch when he is on), but he has the last couple years (more often than not) used skill to pitch effectively. Pretty bad stretch he has been going through lately at a time when the Jays can not afford it.
