  1. WTF was Travis doing taking a FB right down the heart of the strike zone on a 2-2 count !
  2. Reds have a good lineup with plenty of power. The only one with BA under .250 is Schebler with 14 HR and .850 OPS. If they get their pitching together, this will be a good young team.
  3. As leftys, maybe Oberholtzer or House could be tried in the bullpen when no longer needed as a starter.
  4. He already had one with his recent 2 game suspension, plus they only played 5 games last week. Anyway, hope this doesn't turn into a prolonged slump
  5. Samardzija and another Giant (I think Morse) ran into each other in the rush to grab their guy and break things up.
  6. Yeah Odor might be a dirt bag, but at least he knows how to throw a punch.
  7. Ah you just beat me to the punch
  8. BIG dust up in SF after Strickland drilled Bryce Harper square on the hip. Harper charged the mound, threw his helmet and then a couple punches (poorly done as typical of baseball players).
  9. It's good that the next three games are against the Reds whose pitching is mediocre (23rd ranked by ERA), so that should be good for helping JD and Tulo get back up to speed. I was thinking it is interesting how within a couple weeks the Jays batting order has gone from an embarrassment to almost an embarrassment of riches. While I understand the rationale of having the stronger hitters at the top of the order to get more PAs, it helps to have a solid bottom of the order to really keep the pressure on the opposing pitcher. Right now I could see something like: Pillar Travis Bautista Smoak Donaldson Morales Tulo Martin Coghlan/Carrera
  10. I think the first strike call also got him totally out of sorts.
  11. Yep, glad to see he got it done and now let's get some more insurance runs!
  12. Good point, but may have just not gotten around to it. Anyway, hopefully nothing else going on injury wise.
  13. Could just be discussing how Donaldson and Tulo are feeling are whether to put them in if the game remains close.
  14. Except it will be Loup against Gallo and unintentional.
  15. Important to at least run up his pitch count, but he has been leaving the slider up in the zone. Both Bautista and Travis gave it a ride.
  16. Intersting to see Estrada with more Ks than Darvish after 10 starts each.
  17. Similar situation as with Pillar. I guess both have made conscious effort to improve their plate discipline. Also, I saw where Smoak said he went into the season with the approach to focus more on contact than on trying to crush the ball. But that's the thing with these big guys: all they need to do is barrel it up with a nice easy swing and it's going to go far. Seems like Judge can pretty much hit a HR with a half swing sometimes. Sano is another big guy known for a short compact stroke. Probably getting to play everyday has been a help for his confidence. And although it is very small sample set, his results batting right-handed are pretty impressive so far (1 K in 39 PA and slugging .788). So when Pearce comes back it seems putting him in LF (has made most of the plays out there albeit a bit lacking in grace) makes more sense as long as Smoak keeps chugging along. Only problem is Gibbons wanting to play Zeke.
  18. Looks promising. I also saw Liriano listed as being slated to begin rehab assignment this weekend, so both could be back soon. With those two(if they return and are effective) and the impending return of JD and Tulo, the roster becomes pretty solid again. According to current win projections by fangraphs, Jays are still in the hunt for a post-season spot: Astros 95, Indians 90, Red Sox 90, Yankees 89, Orioles 83, Jays 82, Angels 82, Rays 82, Rangers 81, Tigers 80, Twins 80, etc.
  19. Nice job by Bautista and Morales coming through with 2 outs to get a little stronger hold on this game. Morales showing some better patience at the plate that time then pounced on a mistake up in the zone.
  20. So far so good, but 3 big outs to go. Would be nice to put a couple more runs up here.
  21. So I believe it's the same middle finger issue where the edge of that finger is placed along the seams for the curveball grip. Maybe he should scrap the curveball and use some other offspeed pitches (changeup and slider). I know he doesn't use the slider now so would be starting from scratch and need to pitch some in the minors maybe while he develops it. But it seems this problem is not going to go away if he just keeps doing the same thing. Only other alternative will be to shut him down for a very long time to let this thing fully heal.
  22. Time to retire before he further embarrasses himself.
  23. I'm curious when you think is a good situation to bunt if not that one
  24. Looks like he pitched around him with an empty base. Hopefully Morales burns him.
