Yeah and Travis had an extended streak of bad BABIP luck. Now he is finding more holes where before everything was lined at a defender.

Looks like the only other position players, beside Alford, on the 40 man roster and not already on the DL or MLB roster were Urena, Gurriel and Ramirez. So with any of these 4 you would have had a player not ready for prime time.

If the game is out of reach, they could just throw a warm body (Ohlman or Smoak) out in LF and Smith to RF. Alternatively could bring Travis in at 2B and move Coghlan into LF.

The second time it was Sale going after Machado because Baltimore hit Betts the previous game. Apparently they had to go after the O's best hitter to make a 'proper' statement.

But I guess the point I was trying to make is you CAN hurt ther batter hitting him in the torso or leg. I would think a baseball at 95 MPH has the potential to crack a rib, which can be a nasty injury.

Miguel Cabrera got hit with a pitch the other day and has since missed several games with pain in his left side. Coincidence? I think not.

But this time it really is maybe the worst since the first couple seasons with the expansion team. Ceciliani batting clean up followed by Coghlan, Barney, Goins and Maile. A win with this group will be a big achievement.

They might want to dump his salary, but i don't see them also giving up top prospects. It's an interesting scenario, because he is a former MVP and I assume still popular with their fans. I wonder if they would rather trade him this season than have the potential bad PR from declining his 2018 team option. Because the way he is playing, very likely they would take a pass (assuming he doesn't turn it around).

Yes but possible that Gibbons is not just making these tactical decisions on his own. It seems to me he used to be all about just letting everyone swing away.

Probably on this board there wouldn't be that many complaining about a GIDP in that situation. I found it ironic that after Travis struck out, the next batter hit into a different kind of DP with the runner being doubled off on the line out. Anyway, it was a pretty painful couple games to watch the last two days. Also, I wonder if the decision to bunt in these type of situations is Gibbons only or with input from the management and analytics people.

Also inability to execute by Bolsinger. I believe he had Markakis down 0-2 and then let him back in the count upon which he hung a curveball pretty badly for the 2 run single. Now he has already hit a 2nd batter in this game.

He's good enough. And his switch hitting adds needed versatility. Plus, as he did again today, is one of those role players who has stepped it up during this period of the team being decimated by injuries
