  1. What a s*** show other than Smoak and Stroman. I'm just glad Stroman didn't get tagged with the L.
  2. Yeah this is a fiasco. Total 180 degrees from 2016 when I think the the Jays led all of MLB in innings pitched by the starters. I think I am done watching Estrada and Liriano flail away. So glad they are both gone after this season.
  3. You would have to think it decreases his free agent value, as he gets fewer of those close calls going his way and some blatant calling of what should be balls as strikes against him. Probably going to be another very frustrating offseason for him.
  4. Yeah it could still work for the Jays if either of those prospects pans out, but so far it's a big win for the Pirates by achieving the salary dump.
  5. Yeah it's easy to blame the pitchers, but the Jays poor defense this season has cost them so many runs. That said, Liriano just doesn't seem to have it. But they may as well play out the string with him, since they don't appear to have much in house to fill in, and Sanchez may not be ready for his next turn. ETA: I take that back. Give me Bolsinger over Liriano. I assume the DL stint for Bolsinger was just so they didn't have to run him through waivers to open up his roster spot.
  6. At least Morales was able to advance the runner. But he should have crushed that hanger. Smoak is the only one the opposing pitchers seem concerned about right now.
  7. I would rather they keep him anyway, as he will be cheap and hopefully continue to be effective for a few more years. Joe Smith had a second successful outing at AAA on Monday, so should be on track to rejoin the Jays later in the week. If he can show he is back to where he was before going on the DL, hopefully the Jays can trade him for a decent return.
  8. As described in the link provided, the official scorer did correctly invoke his prerogative and assigned the W to Tepera, who entered the game after the Jays had already regained the lead in the top of the 8th, following Leone's short and ineffective appearance in the bottom of the 7th. So Leone gets a BS and Gibby gets to wear the dunce cap for the day.
  9. Is there really going to be much difference between 3-5th and 15-20th pick ?
  10. By FAR, Osuna is THE MAN on the Jays right now!! I still hope Donaldson will rebound to reclaim that role.
  11. That's a nice description. Thanks!
  12. Is anyone here familiar with the possible existence of a rule that it is within the discretion of the official scorer to award the 'W' to a pitcher who was not the pitcher of record when the team took the lead for the final time in the game. Like in this case, he could award the W to Stroman instead of 1-pitch Leone? I was told such a rule exists but is never invoked in MLB.
  13. Yeah you need to bring in someone better than Leone in that spot or don't bother. But it did make sense to pull Stroman, as he was up to 106 pitches. Just a shame his nice outing went to s*** so quickly.
  14. OTOH, 3 runs, 0 ER. error Stroman. He f***ed himself on this one
  15. Possibly Gordon could be put in LF also. With his speed, he can certainly go get some balls, assuming he can get a decent read. Gordons's D at 2B is pretty good, so trying Travis in LF also makes sense
  16. Yeah and Zeke is making $1.1M this season. I would non-tender him and go with one of the above for next season. I wonder what anyone will be willing to pay J.D. Martinez this off season. probably too much, considering the other pending OF free agents. ETA: an outfield of Travis, Pillar and Alford in 2018 ?
  17. I feel like Stroman and Sanchez will pitch well for the remainder of this season and carry it into 2018. What the management can do to supplement that will be a key to the Jays' fortunes in 2018.
  18. I counted about $55M in free agents coming off the books with 6 guys due pay increases in Arb (Stroman, Sanchez, Osuna, Pillar, Sanchez, Donaldson?). If the Jays are serious about being competitive in 2018, they probably need to be willing to spend a little more on payroll. Of course the risk would be possibly getting stuck with additional albatross contracts.
  19. Seems like they are just suggesting acquiring someone to play 2B and stand pat with the rest of the roster. I guess that's fine if they don't get any good trade offers. But they are going to have some serious work ahead of them in the off season.
  20. Joe Smith pitched a scoreless inning on Friday and looks like he will be back with the Jays sometime this coming week.
  21. Do you mean FAs entering 2018 or FAs following 2018 season? Either way, the only ones of much significance are Donaldson and Happ (maybe Smith this year if he can come back soon and show he is effective). So they can still trade Happ and Donaldson during the coming offseason or during 2018 season if it isn't shaping up well by July.
  22. Yeah, since he pitched to 3 batters in the 3rd and got none of them out, it's hard to say exactly what's going on other than he is bad. The Jays will be better off with him on the DL than in the rotation at this point. In 15 starts he has only 4 QS and 5 in which he didn't even get through 5 ip.
  23. Nice win for the Jays! Hopefully the first of many to come in the '2nd half'.
  24. It was mentioned by Bob Costas during the MLB Network broadcast of Yankees/Red Sox. Costas seems a couple bricks short these days so.......
