  1. Pretty pointless having a DH on the bench. Though there is more chance he’s dfa late in the season. Suspect ownership wouldn’t sanction Tulo, Martin and Morales write offs all at the same time.
  2. Only as a hitter, despite being traded Happ had the highest fWAR as a Jay last season with 2.3. We really were terrible last year!
  3. The 40 man isn’t an issue as they’d be replacing Pompey who would be dfa.
  4. Yeah and if they are serious about keeping Luciano it makes sense going with an 8 man bullpen to try to protect him. Paulino, Barnes (out of options) or Axford could make the team.
  5. Interesting article: Mike Trout is rich after signing long-term with Angels, but he'll never be famous The article surmises that only Harper and Judge would turn heads walking down a street. I just sent a message about Trout’s contract to a WhatsApp group of friends who are all sports fans, and only one had even heard Trout’s name before. Fair enough baseball has zero impact in the UK, but every single person in the group would recognise LeBron and have at least heard of a Tom Brady. It just feels like baseball is so far behind other sports in marketing to fans and the wider public.
  6. It’s time to relocate the cheap Rays:
  7. Rookie growing pains and all that, but an infield of Jansen, Smoak, Gurriel, Bo and Vlad would be so much more exciting than the infield we have right now with Drury and Galvis starting.
  8. Just watched Messi score another impossibly great hattrick. He didn’t even look at the goal for the third one and the Betis (opposition) fans gave him a standing ovation and starting bowing:
  9. Travis’ return will be delayed after a setback, he’ll play a few games in the minors, struggle for a month or so in the majors, end the season injured, and then admit defeat and retire. You don’t come back from chronic knee injuries with continual tears. Playing on will put his health in jeopardy, it wouldn’t be good to need knee replacement surgery in his early 30’s.
  10. He only made his majors debut last year so he has 2 left.
  11. Considering that when Vlad is called up this spot disappears, it should be Urena with his option. This also seems inconsequential compared to the outfield, but maybe the decision on Pompey has already been made.
  12. Especially as when Ohtani is back he needs to be the full time DH.
  13. Are you tercet in disguise?
  14. Pillar has never been that valuable a trade asset though. Even at his peak we were competing and he was worth more to us on the field than in a trade.
  15. Could change it so if a team challenges a call they have to do it straight away, not after watching a replay themselves. If it's so close that you can't tell if it is a mistake in real time, then it shouldn't matter. IMO people get too hung up on marginal calls having to be 100% accurate.
  16. Some fascinating ties in the CL quarter finals (Liverpool have to be happy!): http://i.imgur.com/f2SDHCn.jpg
  17. There's no guarantee that Eloy will be a star in a few years, but there's also no guarantee that the current rules governing arbitration will still apply after the next CBA. IMO it's good to see a team investing in young talent, and from the White Sox and Eloy's point of view it mitigates uncertainty. Still not sure I'd give a similar deal to Vlad though, imagine how much food he'd buy with a contract like that, haha.
  18. And that would be a relevant point if my job was one that thousands of people would pay to watch me do. As it is though, it’s a dumb and irrelevant point. Why do you want the billionaire owners to keep all the money, haha?
  19. I think it’s just Dinger that’s literally having a breakdown, haha. Maybe Bregman refused to sign his glove one time?
  20. Haha, chill man! I’m not suggesting a completely free market. However, I’m pointing out that a salary of $640k is comically low for one of the best players in the game, and it’s understandable that Bregman would be pissed off at a negligible raise (even though that’s the way the system works until the next CBA when it’ll likely be amended).
  21. Nah, Alex Bergman is significantly underpaid to date. He’ll be fine if he doesn’t get injured before cashing in, but in a totally free market he’d be earning a lot more than the $7.5m total he’s got so far in his career. You’re right that players who don’t get a big signing bonus are in an even worse position, but you’re wrong that he has nothing to complain about. Artificially keeping salaries so low only benefits the owners’ profits. It’s a stupid system, that hopefully will change in the next CBA. Ideally this will also reduce the inflated contracts for past it players, as the pressure to cash in will be less when they’ve been fairly compensated early in their careers.
  22. The system is f***ed, just because it’s been f***ed for a while doesn’t mean he has to be happy about it. It’s absolutely understandable he is pissed off at a raise of $40,000 after the season he just had.
  23. I guess he thinks he's a top ten player in a sport that generates over $10billion dollars of revenue a year?
  24. Yes you’re doing it. As Jim says, there’s not much point having veterans on the roster when there’s non elite prospects who could be playing. Again using Tellez as an example, he’s being blocked by Smoak and Morales I don’t see how you can argue against that. Whether he’s good enough to hold down a spot when one or both are moved/injured we don’t know yet. But if either were moved now he’d be on the 25 man. Alford is in a similar situation with no room to be rostered. For both it’s debatable whether they’d learn more right now by staying in AAA, but it’s dumb to suggest there’s no room for debate at all.
