Well it’s clear that if Elvis wasn’t a rule 5 pick he’d be no where near the 25 man. So even if he manages to stick around, he’s almost certainly not going to be on the 25 man next year. Normally you’d expect him to up to 3 or 4 years away if he makes it at all.
IMO he has a better chance of developing by having a more normal career progression, gaining experience and working on his skills in the minors. Unfortunately that means it’s probably not going to be with the Jays.
Most rule 5 picks fail anyway, but the ones that do work are normally players who are older, more experienced, and just take their chance. It’s very rare that a rule 5 pick sucks but still sticks all year and then pays off in later seasons.
