    A mate of mine who doesn't normally play somehow managed to break one of the ceiling lights, and lose a ball (we think it went into a hole behind the screen). It doesn't help that the bar is just a phone call away to get them to bring you drinks haha.

    This makes a lot of sense, but unfortunate with Alford thinking he’d made it. At least he knows he’ll get a chance when an outfielder gets injured / traded. Pleased for Tellez, he has come back well from his horror year when his Mum was really sick.

    Not quite. We gave up a reliever who had just had a decent season and a prospect projected to be a reliever. Liriano was only a rental and we even got a few months of Aoki thrown in. You’re welcome to prefer the Grichuk trade (it’s turned out great so far) but I’ll stick with the Hernandez deal as the (now 2nd) best.

    Wow I can’t believe we managed to trade Morales, get something back and save a couple of million! The roster flexibility is so vital to create extra playing time for our prospects. This takes over from the Hernandez / Liriano deal as Shatkin’s best trade IMO.

    After Cleveland spent the offseason cutting payroll I think they are itching to go into rebuild mode. Wouldn’t be surprised to see them cash in their pitchers this year.

    Like he’ll last about a month of being hit around before being sent back when some of the injured relievers return.

    The next CBA will probably change the current service time manipulation issues.

    Feierabend‘s deal is only a minor league one, so we probably won’t see him until his contract is selected midway through the season.

    Adding a couple of expansion teams would seem to be a relatively easy fix to the issue of mid tier players worrying about not getting a new contract. It’d create 52+ MLB jobs straight away.

    Hoping that with the injury to Travis, Gurriel can establish himself as the full time starter at 2B, instead of being the utility player that he's always appeared destined to be. He'll never get a better opportunity, he's had a good spring training, still has 5 years left on his contract (so the FO will want to give him every chance) and no real rival on the current roster with Drury at 3B to start the season. When Vlad eventually comes up, it's probably between Drury and Gurriel as to who moves over to replace Urena/Sogard as the back up infielder, and who gets the majority of starts at 2B.

    I guess there’s a chance there might be roster space for Pompey in June if we get outfielder injuries or trade anyone.

    The bullpen this year will be the same as normal, i.e. some will be much better than expected (my prediction - Barnes), some will be terrible and be dfa'd (Phelps), some will do about as expected (Giles), and we'll cycle 15 or so players based on short term needs and injuries. Relievers are so random though that you could switch those 3 examples into any of the categories!

    I’m looking forward to watching Netherlands vs Germany today. Should be a good game and it’s one of the biggest rivalries around.
