  1. Cabrera was a skinny kid who got fat. Look at his rookie card he's built like Espinal. Guerrero came into the league overweight. With that said, Guerrero has way more athletic potential than Cabrera. He's much faster and explosive than he looks. It's uncommon for players to get into better shape as they age, but Rafael Devers lost like 50 pounds and turned himself into an MVP level player. Anthony Rizzo lost a ton of weight later in his career. It can be done but requires a lot of discipline.
  2. I know this has been said already but the Jays really need to take at least 3 out of 4 against the Royals with at least 1 blowout to rest the leverage relievers and get the position players off their feet. Anything less than that against a spring training split squad is embarassing.
  3. He sounds like a Blue Jays pitcher already.
  4. Oneil "Tapia" Cruz
  5. Cimber comes in the 5th inning to avoid third time through the order.
  6. That's exactly the set up right now, just with Tapia. You may be underestimating how much playing time Tapia is being given. He has started a lot more than 50% of the team's games so far. The value swing between Benintendi and Tapia is multiple wins in the standings, probably more than a high end reliever.
  7. That lead-from-the-front swinging dick personality is exactly what the administration hates the most. Gibbons, Donaldson, Martin, Pillar, Anthopoulos, etc. all got traded or canned. Some of them left on very bad terms. Schneider will likely keep a low profile.
  8. Tapia for manager.
  9. Kirk has played 20 games this season as DH. Guerrero has played 18. Springer has also played 18. I don't think I'll ever understand why they bench Kirk so often so that Guerrero can DH. I sort of get it with Springer. And then Teoscar, the guy with an actual soft tissue injury this year, has almost no games played at DH. And then guys like Bichette and Espinal who are playing demanding positions just don't get scheduled days off period. I don't know what kind of algorithm they're using to distribute the DH PAs, but it doesn't seem to be prioritizing injury prevention to me.
  10. I agree with Atkins on this one. Virtually every team in baseball should want a player like Jansen, which makes me question why we're so focused on trading him, for this year at least. Moreno is an elite talent but he has like 500 combined PA above A ball. The deeper our catching situation is, the more guaranteed ABs we can get for Kirk at either DH or C. Losing Jansen indirectly frees up more playing time for Tapia, which will probably cost us more wins than what we get for Jansen.
  11. Sox bullpen is even more drained than ours.
  12. Running Moreno is 100% the right move, especially with Collins on the roster.
  13. Romo warming up in that situation is incredibly disturbing.
  14. Manoah is crazy enough to retaliate against orders.
  15. Shulman: "You know Alex Cora isn't gonna miss a rule." I don't know if he was trying to be funny but that is absolutely hilarious.
  16. Romero's been scuffling lately. Romo for closer.
  17. Ortiz was so bad at 1B they refused to DH guys like Manny Ramirez and Hanley Ramirez -- among two of the worst defensive outfielders in MLB history. That's crazy when you think about it.
  18. It's almost certainly to separate up Tapia and Biggio enough in the batting order to prevent a lefty reliever from facing both in the same inning. Personally, I think Tapia is such a weak hitter I would prefer him lower in the order to get less guaranteed ABs, especially since you have Teoscar on the bench to counter a lefty reliever anyways. This is the weird side of analytics.
  19. Sox got absolutely destroyed by babip today.
  20. We really need to end it here. It's almost Shaun Anderson time.
  21. That takes the bat out of Guerrero's hands.
  22. What I didn't understand was Phelps pitching yesterday in a blowout. He should've been in there today.
