  1. Not sure I agree. SP depth is a must for a winning team. I'm fine with him starting in the pen (ala Estrada, Marco last year).
  2. Funny thing is - his bat wasn't anywhere near "average" last year (wRC+ of 86). If he found an average bat, we're probably looking at 5+ WAR.
  3. I wonder if Barry enjoys SP humiliation too....creepy.
  4. Wow - he's either oblivious to how pathetic he is, or he enjoys being made fun of. My 3 year old son has a better swing than Barry. Jackie looks pretty good in the video though.
  5. Can we just close this thread? thank you in advance for the consideration.
  6. I won't - haven't played a video game in 5 1/2 years (since my first son was born). That said - he'll soon be into video games and he loves baseball, so soon I may forced to play video games once again in an effort to bond with my son
  7. I definitely agree unless it's a front loaded contract or the 5th year is an option year. $25M, $20M, $20M, $15M, $10M. AAV - $18M In principle, I don't like locking up the DH spot either...
  8. https://ca.sports.yahoo.com/blogs/mlb-big-league-stew/here-s-your-first-look-at--r-b-i--baseball-16-055727095.html Is the RBI Baseball any good? It sure was back on the original Nintendo!
  9. Fair enough man....I wasn't trying to write a bloody thesis on this matter - I was just curious under what basis people keep suggesting he has a "big arm". When I think big arm, I personally think strikeouts and to get strikeouts, you need swinging strikes. I probably used to think velocity too, but I no longer do as everyone in the pen throws hard now (see Scholtz, Bo) Perhaps I underestimated the value of weak contact and groundballs; however, there are plenty of groundball pitchers who I certainly don't consider to have "big arms". Brett Anderson Jon Neise Brad Ziegler Luke Gregerson Zake Petricka My post had nothing to do with how successful he'll be - it was simply to find out why people keep saying he has the big arm or great "stuff". He's spent the last 7 years trying to learn how to throw a good secondary pitch and has failed miserably. The only other pitch he's developed at all is a loopy curveball, which makes no sense to throw off his sinking fastball. It's utterly stupid IMO. Forgive me if I doubt his ability to "develop" other quality pitches.
  10. I question why people keep saying he has a "big arm"...what do they mean by that? At this point, all this "big arm" can do is throw a hard sinker with movement. It's a good pitch, but I'm not even convinced it's a great pitch as it doesn't miss a lot of bats (6.5% SwStr%) and these days - everyone throws "hard". Like Sanchez, Jake McGee and Sean Doolittle both throw primarily fastballs. Neither seem to have (by eye) as much movement as Sanchez's sinker, yet McGee's gets over 10% SwStr% and Doolittle is at 13.5% SwStr%. Those are elite fastballs. Sanchez has likely been trying to develop secondary pitches since he was 16 and has yet to find anything he can throw at a league average level....is that what a "big arm" is to people? For me - a "big arm" is someone with elite pitches who's still developing his control/command. Another thought is - why isn't Sanchez's fastball elite? Is it the poor command? Sanchez really reminds me of Brandon League.
  11. I'd argue he should scrap the use of his curveball....Based on how good his sinking fastball is, a 1-7 curveball makes no sense. He should be developing that cutter/slider and a change up to throw off that sinking fastball. Curveballs are best used with high fastball pitchers, which Sanchez is not - see Estrada....high fastballs, 12-6 curve + high change ups. Great combo.
  12. I really only matters what the Jays think....anyone know how they handled Carrasco's transition to the rotation? how about Salazar, who had a lot of injuries in the minors (and didn't throw that many innings).
  13. You must love Dusty Baker...
  14. IF the Jays actually think Sanchez belongs in the rotation, then how are they going to manage his innings??? He isn't read or capable of throwing 170-190 innings this year. If he's going to be a starter, he should start in AAA where they can monitor his innings (let Floyd or Chavez start in the bigs) then bring him up mid season. It feels like if he starts in the rotation...he's destine to shift to the pen later in the year.
  15. Instant riches if you can perfect it...
  16. Businesses/people don't get rich from making stupid decisions...
  17. Sanchez is such a polarizing player right now. So interested to see what the Jays do with him if he isn't in the rotation to start the year. I think there's a real chance that Floyd is the #5, Chavez starts in the rotation as Estrada gets up to speeds (yes I know he said he'd be ready for the start of the year) and Sanchez starts in the AAA rotation. This allows them to keep Biagini and get a look at Leon early on. I think that makes a lot of sense, but Gibby would probably lose his s*** if Sanchez wasn't on the team (as would the "average" fan who would argue you take your best team north with you - completely ignoring we're going to need 20+ relivers this year and thus finding ways to hold talented guys is essential).
  18. I don't see spring results on there...
  19. What's the velocity at this spring? Remember he had surgery on the knee...maybe he's still getting back to full strength....I thought fixing the knee and losing weight was going to allow him to up his velocity...
  20. When did Storen change his delivery? He used to have a low leg kick...almost a slide step....
  21. And why didn't they ask if Ray Fossie was blocking the plate correctly when Rose distroyed him....I thought catchers back then sent runners out on stretchers.....
  22. Oh why oh why couldn't Tim and Sid bring up Kirk Gibson or Fisk or all the other times when old school guys showed up the other team...miss opportunity.
  23. What makes you so sure when he's hasn't been able to even develop a second quality pitch over the last 7 years (assuming he started throwing secondary pitches at age 16)...
  24. Jesus...wicked limeup compared to what I got to see yesterday...anyone read my write Up???
  25. You mean the Carlos Martinez who's season ended early last year with shoulder injuries?
