  1. Said everyone who's ever watched him without the rose coloured glasses on...
  2. Buck must listen to Jeff Blair and Kevin Barker... (and drink a lot)
  3. Saunders was league average vs. LHP in 2014....not so much in previous years. Anything think he'll be a black hole vs. LHP?
  4. It's like he doesn't understand this concept. Unfortunately - he's not the only one. I hear this a lot. They probably think the kid selling popcorn (who has no unique or valuable skill) should be making $40/hr instead of giving the players more.
  5. The Dodgers got an ace for 3 years and then Greinke opted out. The Diamondbacks might get an ace for 1-2 years, and average, overpaid pitcher for 2-3 years and a bad, overpaid pitcher for 1-2 years. IMO - this wasn't all bad for the Dodgers. I just see the "end" of all these contracts as a nightmare for more teams - but a necessity (they have to be willing to eat it) to get the FA to sign with them. If there's a way to get fair value for the first 2-3 years of the contract and then let him leave and sign elsewhere (letting that team pay him for his decline) - I'm all for it (provided I'm willing to take the risk he may opt to spend his declining years on my team).
  6. I think there are scenario when this is a win for the team. Grienke is 32 and wants a 6 year deal with an opt out after 3 years. You give him 6 years, $180M and he pitches great for the first 3 years (you get your value out of him), he opts out and then let some other team get stuck with the declining/overpaid stage of his career. The team never would have gotten him to sign 3 years, $90M without the opt out, but if he pitches good - they get a steal while avoiding the decline. Obviously the flip side is if he sucks - you're stuck with him long term (perhaps you shouldn't have signed him in the first place).
  7. To clarify....is he saying he won't tact on a 4th year "player option" to a contract. Or is he saying he won't allow an "opt-out" clause in a contract.....errr both.
  8. Gibby's talked up Darrell Ceciliani a few times - suggesting he can handle CF defensively. Sounds like he has a legit shot - trying to beat out Lake and Carrera.
  9. Yeah I don't like the manager waiting game. It's a lot less annoying in the NFL.
  10. I'm in this camp.
  11. So are we happy or upset that Loup could possibly have significant arm injury? I mean I wish no harm or injury on anyone - but is this seen as a big loss, or addition by subtraction? I vote it's a pretty significant loss - but I suspect the "masses" are jumping for joy.
  12. Ted - is that you? how the f*** do you know the payroll will drop to $120M if the Jays don't win this year? You're certainly doing your best to repeat as the worst poster...
  13. He's not insulted enough to leave though...He may whine and complain and want to get overpaid like Pujols, Hamilton, Fielder and Martinez - but at the end of the day, he seems to realise he's in a good position and is being fairly compensated......otherwise, he'd be in another uni. talk is cheap.
  14. Based on what? Red Sox give Ortiz a 1 year deal every year and he's not insulted. You know what's insulting? The contracts given to Pujols, Hamilton, Fielder and Martinez. Shouldn't the Jays be insulted if EE asks for 5 years?
  15. If I'm Shaktins - I'd counter by telling EE the Jays will do exactly what Boston did with his homeboy Ortiz. I'd point to the endless list of awful long term contracts handed out to players with negative defensive value (V.Martinez, Pujols, Hamilton, Fielder, etc.), explain the Jays aren't stupid (like DET & LAA) and note they are built to contend/win over the next 3-4 years. Then I'd offer him 1 or 2 year deals with an above average AAV while he's still a productive player. If he balks at that - I thank him for the draft pick and show him the door.
  16. This is how I see that conversation going... EE - "Shatkins, Victor Martinez got 4 years, $68M at age 35. I want AT LEAST that" Shatkins - "you mean the Victor Martinez who put up a -2.0 WAR last year and his already hurt again this spring (just like you currently are)? f*** off"
  17. Not sure I buy that. Jose and EE have been here a long time, waiting for the Jays to build a team around them that could win. We finally have it and now we're going to go to them and ask them to waive their 10-5 rights because their initial discussions in contract negotiations didn't go well? That would piss me off. And why would they want to go anywhere right now? This team has one of the best preseason shots of winning it all. If their below .500 at the all-star break, this situation/discussion is a lot more plausible. Right now it's pure stupidity IMO. Don't listen to Bob McCowan - he's a maroon.
  18. The Jays are spending plenty sir. Spending a pile of money on guys in their mid 30's is just plain stupid. Look at the history.
  19. Isn't there a massive risk in asking them to accept a trade? I mean if they say yes and you have a deal in place - great.....but if they say "no" - then you've told them you want to trade them, but you can't. That can't create a good vibe around a team that's ready to win now. I know it's business - but that's risky business if you ask me and I won't be surprised if the Jays haven't even considered it for that reason.
  20. I thought he was some puggy out of shape guy? I pictured Matt Adams. Good swing IMO.
  21. Petco is actually considered a hitters park now. KC would be a good fit park/defense wise. Maybe Miami for Ozuna
  22. Soriano needs a visa and some PEDs in a hurry....
  23. Floyd in the rotation, Chavez & Sanchez in the pen, Hutch stretched out in AAA (in the event of a SP injury). That works for me.
