  1. I get that - I'm just saying most teams don't have options that are significantly better than Biagini and Bolsinger as there 6th and 7th. You also have to factor in the quality of our starting 5. The #4 and #5 on most teams is a little iffy to start with - if they lose their #2 starter, it would hurt significantly more than if the Jays #2 starter got hurt (whoever you want to pencil in there). I agree we need to add some depth - I'm just saying we aren't too bad and if you could land a young OFer and sell high on Happ - you have to consider that.
  2. We should probably have a look at him then if true - possibly as a fallback to Pearce. He played 3rd, SS, 2nd, 1st and all 3 OF positions last year while posting a 129 wRC+ and his defensive metrics weren't terrible. wRC+ of 153 vs. LHP last year. I'm not sure I want him playing MI for an extended period, but if they think the swing change/bat are now for real - he's a solid target.
  3. I think if you were to compare the Jays depth - while factoring in the quality of their 1-5, you'll find the Jays are near the top of the league.
  4. Meh - If I could get Conforto for Happ, I'd do it in a heartbeat and figure the #5 spot out later. That said, that trade is probably incredibly unrealistic. Puig might not be though.
  5. But Cespedes and Davis were both coming off a 6.3 and a 5.6 WAR season when they were FA's. Edwin is steady Eddie around 4 WAR. Cespedes and Davis were younger and coming off much better years (Davis was also 1 year removed from a 7 WAR season), which explains why Cesepedes got $25M AAV and Davis got $23M AAV. That alone almost proves that EE should be in the $20M AAV range.
  6. I'd give that to Cashner to see what he could do. Suspect he wants a starting role though. Happ to LA for Puig or Conforto. Cashner as our #5
  7. Ah FFS. Although I don't know if I would have given him $14M over 2 years to fill that role. Andrew Cashner it is!
  8. I wonder if Cashner could be dominant out of the pen....He passes the old eye test every time I see him.
  9. http://www.fangraphs.com/statss.aspx?playerid=3926&position=P Interesting article suggesting Casey Fien and Jake Peavy could be solid targets, based on spin rates.
  10. I found my own answer - Charlie Morton. Morton slides into Biagini's role out of the pen, but also provides insurance for our rotation. Biagini's given the opportunity to develop in AAA as a starter and Danny Barnes replaces Benoit in the pen. Actually - I'd entertain trading Happ for a younger OF with some years of control (Puig, Conforto, etc.) if we could replace him with a one of Morton, Biagini, Bolsinger. Maybe grab Andrew Cashner too and throw him into the mix!
  11. Shouldn't they be trying to sign up some of the middling FA's who won't command big years or dollars so they can deal them at the trade deadline for prospect porn? If I'm them, I'm targeting Reddick (assuming it's a reasonable 3 year deal), Gomez, Joyce, Logan, Castro, Pearce, Valbuena, Coghlan, Cashner, Morton and every other left handed reliever on the market.
  12. Welcome to the board. You're going to get lambasted on here if you keep citing HRs to compare hitters.
  13. Not sure he can play the MI anymore. His bat was awesome last year - but utter trash in all previous years. Unless he made some tangible changes to his approach/swing - I'd pass.
  14. That could be the most irrelevant stat posted on this board in a long time. Just so you know - he had a wRC+ of 136 in 2006....sign him now!
  15. Pablo - yes. Terrible signing from the get go, but as BTS points out, he was only 28, still playing solid defense at 3rd base and the reigning WS MVP (not that it should have mattered). But Cespedes isn't a good example to use. He was a beast, coming off a 6.7 WAR season, providing excellent defense in the OF. He was significantly younger and more valuable than EE is right now. It was pretty remarkable that he didn't get a $125 - $150M deal last year, considering Chris Davis did......there - Chris Davis should be the example you use - although he's younger and his peaks have been much better than EE's (so don't bother).
  16. and 4.9 WAR in 2014 in only 103 games (383 PA's) - god damn, sign this man.
  17. Look at the stats, watch the TV, see it live...it all tells you the same thing - Pillar's a below average hitter. BTW - You need a new handle in the worst way...my god
  18. Gomez is an interesting case. He's still a plus runner and defender, but his bat completely dropped off the cliff over the past 2 years - with the exception of 130 PA's with Texas late last year, when he was phenomenal (wRC+ of 139). He seems like a prime candidate to sign a 1 year "prove it" contract and what better place to do that then in RF in a Blue Jays uni? That said, there's no way I'd be on his bat enough to give him a 2 or 3 year deal. That defense and base running is only going to decline.
  19. Can you add up all the RBI's well have on the team too? Thanks.

  21. Casuals are going to lose their minds when he signs elsewhere - claiming Rogers is so cheap. But if that's true - that's a very fair deal for EE and I'm satisfied with the approach the FO took. BTW - stop making new threads man. Just stop.
  22. Depends what the end game is with him. If you want to give him a legitimate shot as a starter, you can't jerk him in and out like you're suggesting. If you see him as a swingman ala Carlos Villanueva....then sure, do as you've suggested. In all likelihood - Danny Barnes can give you what Biagini did last year...
  23. Love Danny....he's taking Benoit's spot!
  24. What would Corbin cost? He seems like a good target
  25. Ideally you have Bolsinger and Biagini in AAA as your 6th and 7th. But that means you may have to open the wallet to replace Biagini in the pen....Joe Blanton?
