  1. He's exactly the type of player this team needs to be a true WS contender. This is our window and 2-4 years is short enough to mitigate the risk. That deal is essentially done by the time we have to extend the core.
  2. good one - he's probably the best example (only one?). DJLH is a different case as he was a league average hitter while in Colorado.
  3. Has there ever been a stud player leave Coors Field that continued to be a great hitter?
  4. 2 years $80M 3 years $105M 4 years $120M
  5. This is a very unique and completely different situation IMO. Unloading a massive deal like Arenado's in a year when like 5 teams are spending (and most of those teams have already spent their wad) and the player can control which team he goes to (or doesn't want to go to) is a lot different than unloading your top pitcher who's still in his arbitration years.
  6. For me - I'm not sure I want the Jays to add Arenado at 6 years $149M right now if it prevents us from adding pitching and/or hurts our ability to lock up the core long term. Based on the team we have today, we'd be better to use that money for Bauer + Rosenthal.
  7. Yeah imagine the numbers he could put up if he got out of Coors Field...
  8. This year? I don't think so (I also think Rendon is better than Arenado in general). There aren't many teams in baseball looking to add a lot of payroll. You could argue that you're banking on values returning to normal in 2022 or 2023, but who knows. Unfortunately for the Rockies - if they wait....and values return, then Arenado opt-out and is gone.
  9. I think we have to consider the possibility Arenado doesn't opt-out. If Arenado was a FA this year, there's no way he's getting 6 years $199M with an opt-out and NTC. So he's a negative value contract and I suspect they had a very difficult time finding anyone to take him for free at that cost. So the Rockies pitch in another $15M and another opt-out to get him to consider waiving his NTC, then they have to dangle $50M to find anyone to even consider taking him. Then you consider he can bail on the team acquiring him at the end of this year or next year and bam - he simply isn't worth a lot IMO. The Rockies had to find a team willing to take on Arenado for 6 years $149M with 2 opt-outs....and it had to be a team that Arenado wanted to go to. Do you think teams would give us anything of value for Springer in a trade right now? I doubt it.
  10. I agree. He'll still have 5 years $164M owed to him after this season. Unless COVID vanishes and the market corrects, I'm not sure he's going to do any better than that. Maybe after the 2022 season when he's only got $129M left on his deal? That might be why he got the additional opt-out added.
  11. Could the $50M only be provided if he doesn't opt out?
  12. Rosenthal is a f***ing beast. He'd be a huge add - but I suspect he's looking for somewhere he can close...
  13. He reminds me of Joe Morgan - and I f***ing hated Joe Morgan as a broadcaster.
  14. Apparently the Jays are considering Trevor Rosenthal and are getting trade interest in Grichuk and Gurriel... Take that for what it's worth...
  15. and if the team doesn't perform, they could flip Joc at the deadline for more farm injections. Similar approach the Jays took in 2017-2019.
  16. https://blogs.fangraphs.com/blue-jays-add-even-more-rotation-depth-in-trade-for-steven-matz/
  17. It's pretty insane that Nick Bitsko and Cole Wilcox are 21st and 22nd on the top prospect list (although Bitsko's injury could really impact him).
  18. Jeeezz I wonder if there's a possibility for change between now and October. Nah, that's crazy talk!
  19. I know wins don't matter, but 19+ wins in 4 out of 5 years between 2009 and 2014 is still pretty awesome.
  20. Agreed - what a stud. It's been a joy to watch him pitch for all these years.
  21. Yeah - Miller is a good target too. Not sure we actually want Vlad starting at 3rd for an extended period. I suspect the FO will add someone with versatility in the infield to compliment what we have.
  22. Matz reminds me of Matt Moore. Big time left handed arm talent, but hasn't really put it all together. Fingers crossed.
  23. An injury to Bo, Semien and Cavan and we're back to starting Espinal or someone like Panik. Someone like Frazier or Lowrie would add the depth that Grichuk does in the OF. It's probably not an immediate priority, but not a bad idea.
  24. Frazier would be a really nice utility knife on our bench - not that I'd give up a lot to get him...
