  1. That's good news on Moreno as someone posted a video of him a few months ago and his arm looked below average IIRC.
  2. Not sure I'd go that far - but there's a good chance he's an anchor in our rotation this year if the BB/9 is <4.
  3. If Ray's BB/9 is below 4, he'll give us 3+ WAR
  4. I mean the results were really good. 2.9, 5.1, 2.9 and 4.5 WAR in the previous 4 years, plus 1.8 WAR in 96 innings the year he was dealt. He was the 9th most valuable pitcher in baseball in 2018. He was 29 when dealt with 2.5 years left at like $10M a season. Don't bring up wins and ERA please. The shine also wore off because he needed thoracic outlet surgery, which he tried to pitch thru in 2019. TB is good - but I don't think they're good enough to trade aces pitchers right before they need major, career altering surgery (maybe we'll find out with Snell!).
  5. People forget how split most were on this deal at the time. Archer was a stud with lots of control at a dirt cheap price and the shine was off Glasnow and Meadows as prospects. Baz looks dirty.
  6. I think they tried to slip him through waivers...he didn't clear, so now they are going to try and sneak Wags through.
  7. such a smooth delivery.
  8. Is Braden Olthoff draft eligible? Dirty stuff.
  9. I think a lot of us look at his 44 MLB games in 2018 and 2019 and compare it to his minor league numbers and suggest it's a mirage. The larger sample size says his bat is well below league average.
  10. Running out a quality lineup today. When is the next televised game?
  11. Kirk isn't at the level that would make me want to manipulate service time. I suspect the challenge is - do you want him playing part time, or do you want him getting regular playing time to promote more development (offensively & defensively). There's a chance that Kirk becomes our starter the day we 'give up' on Jansen being a regular. And then there's the depth thing - do we want to keep Reese in the organization for depth. Guess we'll find out.
  12. yeah I have no idea who that guy is, but he looks filthy.
  13. Brewers have the best defense in baseball now?
  14. Blue Jays FO (probably) - "OK, so we thought the next topic went without saying, but evidently not, so we're going to say it. You're f***ing professional athletes, the expectation is you keep yourself in prime shape to improve and perform. Nobody better walk into our new training facility in March with an extra 40 lbs around their waist - is that f***ing clear?"
  15. I think Porcello makes a lot of sense - I can't imagine he's commanding a 3 year deal.
  16. Is Grade 1 minor? ie, higher number is worse?
  17. Gotta inflate the hype around all our prospects so we can make a David Price trade at some point this year and win the World Series yo! But seriously - it's hard not to get excited about so many of our prospects right now. I love it.
  18. really rooting for Ohtani this year.
  19. If those rules are only in effect until March 13th - that makes it a bit better IMO. Is that true?
  20. Really? I've never noticed that before if true. COVID cuts? LOL.
  21. Good due diligence in the event of an injury this spring...
  22. What do you guys think about this (new?) rule about just ending innings if pitchers have reached their limit and managers having the ability to schedule 7 inning games or to cut them short if they want. I mean I get it - they don't want to have to rush to get the next pitcher up early if their guy is struggling, but I wonder what it's like for the fans. They are back out buying tickets and supporting the league and now they've taken the sails out of it being a real baseball game. Blue Jays down 4-2 in the 6th with the bases loaded - uber prospect Austin Martin is at the plate....whoops - this pitcher sucks, just cancel the inning. I've been to a ton of spring training games and I know you don't go to watch a 'good baseball' game. It's more about the atmosphere, autographs/meeting players and just enjoying a relaxing day. I don't think anyone really enjoys innings 8 and 9 anyway. I'm totally cool with the changes because I get it - but I have to wonder if some % of fans are like WTF is this? Why am I paying to go watch this? They have 183 people in camp - get someone warm and play the inning through.
  23. After seeing Ray throw 24 of 26 pitches for strikes the other day - a friend asked me - is there a strategy or philosophy on how many pitches you should throw for strikes? I thought it was an interesting question. I mean for Ray who has great stuff - I suspect the answer is throw as many strikes as you can. But for a control pitcher like Ryu, does anyone know if he strategically tries to throw a certain % outside the strike zone? I suspect there are so many variables that it would be difficult to game plan for such a thing. Curious if anyone had thoughts.
  24. anyone watch Hunter Greene last night? https://www.mlb.com/video/hunter-greene-reaches-100mph 101, 102, 103 MPH to start the game. He got lit up, but good to see him back on the mound. I don't know who approved both teams wearing red jerseys, but they have done it a few days in a row now and it looks ridiculous.
  25. That blows - SWR and Manoah are both pitching I think.
