    It's an interesting one. Soto should have been back, standing on the bag well before he interfered with the fielder. I think his somewhat casual movement back to the bag, followed by sudden movements - right when the field enters the picture didn't do him any favors. I believe the general rule is the runner has to allow the fielder to make the play. If he was back, standing on the bag right away, I don't think that gets called.

    I suspect most people will understand the nuisance of that claim. To be honest, I don't find it all that different then comparing stats from the 1920's to stats from the 2020's. - Ruth played in stadiums that didn't have outfield fences and in some cases, the outfield fences were held by spectators, who would MOVE THE FENCE depending on which team/player was up. - The accuracy of stats kept from like 1880 to say 1950 v. today is always in question. - # of games played changed. - Level and amount of competition changed dramatically. - The mound heights changed throughout the years. - Distance between bags just changed, no takeout slides, disengagement changes, ghost runners, etc. The reality is the goalposts have and continue to move all the time, which should be expected for a sport that's been around for 150+ years. Comparing stats always needs to be done with some knowledge of the game and a grain of salt. I don't think this is much different.

    We could get a look at him this year if they decide the Clement magic is gone - or we move on from Biggio - or there's an injury. He's an interesting piece.

    Because they weren't allowed to, solely due to the colour of their skin. You're going to need to get over this. People will learn the stats from those players/records are unique, but it will create good conversation on the atrocities of our past.

    What's up with Julio this year? I believe he struggled to start last year too, but his power seems to be gone. Is the league finding holes?

    It's a shame he doesn't do the little things well. You look at a guy like Freddie Freeman - GREAT hitter! But what's so nice about Freeman is that he's seemingly always been a very good base runner despite below average speed and he plays a good 1st base defensively. Freeman elevates his game by doing the little things well and it's going to land him in the HOF one day. Vlad has the physical abilities to be a Freddie Freeman type player, but his lack of baseball IQ holds him back.

    Pretty pathetic. Swanson's dealt with his 4 year old son being hit by a car and seriously hurt this spring, then an elbow strain. We shouldn't be overly surprised he's struggled this year. Embarrassing to suggest the trade was poor after we got Swanson, KK and Macko for Teo and his salary last year. It was a slam dunk move overall.

    I think the majority of baseball fans would prefer this. As Laika said, I'm just not so sure robo umps are going to help bring it back. I'm not 100% sure what will because the evidence is pretty clear that we've figured out how to get more and more pitchers throwing 96+ and their margin of error is significantly higher than it is for guys who throw 91.

    To be fair - you typically don't find long peak guy by playing it safe in the draft. You need to "swing for the fences" more, and obviously when you do that, you miss more often. Nimmala was a high upside draft pick at #20. I'd rather us target big upside guys than take some low upside polished college player who's going to get to the majors quick, but likely won't be an impact player. I like the process/decision making, even if he ultimately flops.

    So the strike zone will be called as per the rules of baseball? Sure there will be some strikes called that seem odd, but that's simply because we aren't used to it. Hitters and fans will both adjust and the game will be called as per the rulebook. That doesn't seem all that bad to me.

    Wow - finally. Great day for baseball. Of course he's spent the last 2 weeks negotiating a financial settlement. The guy is a delusional POS. He will forever be known as the worst umpire to ever step on the diamond. When umpires miss calls these days, the kids all say "c'mon Angel".
