  1. Need a bag of golf clubs with this ump
  2. I mean.... Stroman has always been near the top on ground ball leaders. Kind of expected, no?
  3. Imagine getting worked up during the first week of baseball with a .500 record.
  4. That's not a bad idea, big decision though to move those to the sticky section. Maybe a group call on that
  5. While it may sound ideal, it's simply too difficult to moderate. I've tried that before moderating a different 4million post board. It's very easy for conversations to go from one topic to another by discussion alone. If there was a BP discussion thread I can guarantee you more often than not the topic quickly changes from set up men to long arms, to the ideal #5 starter, within 2 pages. The conversation constantly evolves and having set topics means moderation which no mod is going to go through and try to tell people to "stay on topic".
  6. He must be really afraid of retirement to want to try to grind it in the minors and work his way back up again.
  7. I find it really sad we have to talk about the management of our team this way.
  8. This is the AL East... Dodgers mean nothing to us.
  9. So my rogers bill just increased today, we're definitely signing someone this week.
  10. What matters most, is what type of chicken sandwich Ohtani likes and we promote it everywhere
  11. Nothing compares to Popeyes spicy chicken sandwich... I'd never waste money on Wendy's chicken again lol
  12. I bet Lawrie could still pop 15+ homers and give us some new helmet-tossing memes for a fraction of the cost of Donaldson.
  13. I agree, the 2 and done is just dumb imo. Many have actually been picked off in the past with more than 2 thrown and now it just gives any good baserunner the greenlight. It doesn't truly slow down a game either, fans always just booed when the opposing pitcher does it to their best runners.
  14. We've been 162 games for the past 60+ years when they expanded the teams. I personally don't like the idea of shrinking the season at this point, too much history and records that are tied to it in my opinion.
  15. The whole mindset that wild card teams shouldn't be winning the WS as often as those with 100+ win records is kind of nonsensical. If a team is within reach of the postseason, most GMs are going to try to improve their team by the trade deadline specifically to make a playoff run and compete against the top teams. So what you end the year with is not what you started with and your record won't reflect that. I personally think the format is great and don't believe we need more 7 round series. Do we really want a shorter season that would have a cause and effect on history, stats/etc going forward? No thank you.
  16. If any team or player is worried about a layoff, then go ahead and simulate games and keep fresh, while minimizing injuries. There is nothing wrong with the format, the fact that 3 of 4 teams in the division series are wild card teams just creates more excitement and gives teams, like the Jays, a chance to actually make the post season.
  17. For the most part I think that's true, aside from boneheaded managerial decisions where they throw darts mid-game in the postseason that they'd never do during the season.
  18. I don't mind them winning the pennant, I think having an AL East team in the WS just further pushes how strong the division is. That said, let's go Twins lol
  19. So.... who are we all rooting for now?
  20. Yea it's a major overlooked problem. It's one thing to hire a bunch of analytical data nerds, but it's another to take the data given to you and be able to make a logical coherent decision. Atkins was a minor league player himself, he's been around the game his whole life and should know that scenario is just playing with fire. At the very very least, wait for a fresh inning for Kikuchi. You can go to your BP in that scenario if you felt the need to throw a lefty and salvage the inning unscathed (That's kinda their job) but going to Kikuchi in untested waters was just plain dumb. He didn't even last 2 innings, so what did they gain out of it? I'd rather be tied 0-0 in the 10th than down 2-0 in the 9th.. Edit: Also while I'm ranting, VLAD needs to get benched going forward after making boneheaded plays so it's driven in his head what his role is on this team. A manager needs to be able to set the tone on young players on what they expect out of them and what they never want to see. Getting picked off at second with a runner in front of you during the most important at-bat of the season is just inexcusable. It's actually embarrassing for the whole team that worked so hard all season for them to see that from their franchise player.
  21. No analytics can convince me it's a +EV move to put a starter in a reliever position with a runner on base, who hasn't done any relief pitching all season (and only a handful of times in his career). It's an obvious red flag to whatever math they ran. This isn't a video game where that works. And now that I'm more aware this was an Atkins decision, I stand by that the one responsible should be fired for this. Schneider should have said hell no because he might lose his job for them to save face anyway.
  22. Nailed it... It's also worth noting that even if he looked a LITTLE bit off that inning (which he wasn't), bringing in a starter with a runner on, not even a clean inning is a horrible decision in itself that isn't talked about. Kikuchi pitched as a starter in every game he played all season, in fact 122 of his 132 MLB career games over 5 seasons. It's literally why you have a bullpen and a lefty specialist.
