  1. Tapia watch: 49 wRC+ (t-2nd worst in MLB) -0.7 WAR (t-1st worst in MLB) 139 PA Instead of dreading seeing Tapia's name in the lineup, I'm just going to root for him to take sole possession of worst player in baseball. Semien somehow has the worst wRC+ in the league so far, but Tapia can catch him. I have faith.
  2. Vlad clearly needs a DH day after that grueling off day yesterday. Best lineup the Jays can put out there is with both catchers in it, but that would mean no Tapia, so f*** that, apparently.
  3. The way to "spark" the offense (as much as it can be sparked) is by doing what Buntoyo did last night. Jansen and Kirk have to be playing everyday. When one catches, the other is at DH. Maybe when Biggio gets back you give him some DH/utility duty against RHP, but otherwise, the two catchers have to be in the lineup as much as possible. With that said, we won't see that lineup again for at least a few games. Charlie's gonna Charlie.
  4. Agreed. I'm not sure we are going to see 2019-20 Biggio again with the dead ball, but he at least has some track record of being good in the past. Tapia has been awful for years. Collins has been awful for years. Zimmer can't hit. The real problem is the team not getting another hitter in the off season when everyone knew it was a glaring hole. Now they have to hope to hold their heads above water until that happens at the deadline.
  5. Not surprised by this at all, unfortunately. The moment Tapia was acquired you knew he was going to play too much. The best lineup is Kirk and Jansen at DH and catcher. When one catches, the other DH's. It sucks that the position player depth is so bad that the two catchers playing at the same time is the optimal lineup, but it is what it is. Yet, Jansen comes back, and Buntoyo refuses to play that lineup. I think he's done it once since Jansen came back. He's still giving DH opportunities to Collins based on like a 5 day hot streak in April that inflated his numbers. He has a 20 wRC+ in his last 48 PA's, which accounts for 70% of his PA's on the season. As much as I can't stand Charlie, I think the blame has to be shared with the front office. The depth on this team sucks, and if you load the bench with scrubs and hand that roster off to a minor league manager who wants to play everybody, then you kind of deserve what you get.
  6. The one saving grace here is that the extension they gave to Buntoyo was only through 2023. So they avoided having him be a lameduck, but didn't give him much security beyond this season. Hopefully that means they'd be open to pulling the trigger mid season if the team continues to struggle, but I've long prepared for Charlie to manage this team until the end of the time, so I have no expectations.
  7. Buntoyo will find a way to give the worst position player on the team as many PA's as possible. It's just the way he manages. Panik, Tapia, it doesn't matter. Next season it will be someone else.
  8. Yeah, the Jays would want Soto and Bo in the lineup together, not one or the other, and if you want to win a World Series, then Soto/Vlad/Bo gives you a much better chance than taking Bo out and replacing him with Biggio at 2B.
  9. This should be the lineup everyday /as many games as possible, but you know it will look different next game.
  10. I think you can rationalize trading the farm for Soto even without the extension as you'd be getting 3 chances to win a WS with him (assuming he's traded this trade deadline). With that said, I don't think the Nats are going to move him this season. Maybe next trade deadline when he will have only 1.5 years of control left, but I guess it depends on whether the Nats want to outright tank.
  11. I know there is some benefit to having an "open" DH spot, but I've never wanted a fat immobile DH on the roster more than I do now knowing that the DH spot is just going to be used to get Tapia into the lineup.
  12. I'm shocked Romano got hurt pitching 5 days a week of high leverage relief after a shortened spring training. Never saw it coming.
  13. Agreed about Taylor, but I think it’s Tapia that needs the DFA. Zimmer at least is a great defensive CF with speed. That is useful as a 5th OF. Tapia literally has no redeeming quality as a player, but as long as he’s on the roster he’s going to get 600 PA because Charlie, so that’s the move to make. If the front office is not high on Taylor then replace him with Warmoth. Or hell anyone at this point.
  14. Tapia had a -0.5 WAR heading into today and has a 39 wRC+ in 101 plate appearances after his 2 PA's today so far. I really want to see how far he can go until the team does something.
  15. Did Manfred deaden the balls so that teams would stop promoting the three true outcomes and start changing their approach to hitting to a more viewer friendly approach? I'm not sure what the end game is here.
  16. Rotating the DH spot is actually a bad thing now because it just means more Tapia into the lineup. DH Springer? Tapia in the OF. DH Vlad? Gurriel to 1B and Tapia to the OF. There's no way around it. The bench is awful. Atkins needs to do some work at the deadline. Josh Bell at DH, Tyler Naquin as 4th OF, another high impact reliever (if not Pearson). I'm just picking names off bad teams, but the trade deadline probably needs to be pretty significant at this point.
  17. Agreed. The Jays being over .500 this season so far has definitely seemed like a miracle most nights. That doesn't erase the fact that Stanton's HR was cheap as s***, but it's Yankee Stadium. Just have to hope some of the Jays hitters can hit some over there too.
  18. Two straight games and 2 straight logical lineups. Charlie learning, possibly.
  19. No chance anyone other than Charlie is behind Tapia's spot in the batting order. There is no analytic team, in baseball or otherwise, that would think Rocket should be leading off. Or batting anywhere between 2-8 for that matter. Even 9th is pushing it. Basically he doesn't belong anywhere in the lineup other than pinch running, but let's see how long it takes for the batted ball profile to show up in the results. I'm not holding my breath.
  20. If Clase has a clean inning, then Tapia will end the game with more PA's than Vlad. Analytics, baby.
  21. At least Romano gets a day off.
  22. Yeah I noticed the increased statcast numbers, but Charlie isn't even waiting until it manifests into results before he starts batting him 1st, or 5th, or 6th. Panik was awful, but Buntoyo being a minor league manager showing respect to a vetrin who used to be good at least had some (annoying) logic to it. But Tapia has sucked for years, and this year he has still sucked while having better underlying numbers. His road slash line with the Rockies was .243/.285/.320 (61 wRC+). I just don't get why he's been given so much reverence by Charlie.
  23. Charlie’s love for Joe Panik wasn’t as obnoxious as his love for Tapia is now. At least Panik was a good player at one point.
  24. Jomboy breakdown of the Boone ejection last night.
