  1. Wow I had no idea Richards was this bad on the season (5.68 FIP, -0.5 WAR). Probably need to get him off the roster.
  2. Not sure why Thornton was taken out of the game. He threw 2.1 innings but only threw 23 pitches and was doing pretty well. I know it's an off day tomorrow and using as many relievers as possible is Charlie's drug of choice, but would have thought they'd try to get as many innings as possible out of Thornton with Kikuchi giving no length.
  3. It's possible/likely that rest days are out of Charlie's control, but batting Tapia 5th is 100% him. That's undisputable. No one is that insane in this sport except him.
  4. Jansen going to the IL apparently. Luckily the Jays have a great young catching talent in the minors who is already on the 40 man roster that they can bring up. Welcome back, Zack.
  5. The Baseball God’s saw the two catcher lineup and Tapia on the bench, and said “not on my watch”.
  6. Yeah this is the A lineup. You can argue about placement with certain players, but all the right players are playing, and that's all that matters. Appreciate the days we get to see the 2 catcher lineup.
  7. No team was willing to go more than 3 years on Ryu if I recall, and 3 years was probably the right amount. Jays had to go higher to get him. Hopefully he can be useful when he's back on the mound but he was always a health risk, never mind age.
  8. He has a .429 BABIP over that span, so it's not going to continue, but at least he showing some signs of life. Grichuk post 2018 was basically a 0.5 WAR level player, give or take, so the bar isn't high to at least match his level of value.
  9. Today was the right call. When he pulled Manoah last time when he had like 80 pitches, that was BS.
  10. We saw a good lineup two games in a row. Expecting a 3rd was selfish.
  11. Ryu starts tomorrow, and Jansen always catches him, so will be interesting to see if Buntoyo puts Kirk at DH again tomorrow or DH's a regular and gets Tapia's big bat into the lineup. Either way, I'll enjoy these 2 catcher lineups whenever they happen.
  12. Kirk up to a 132 wRC+ on the season. That'll work.
  13. There's no doubt in my mind that Montoyo is not going to use the two catcher lineup often. Not only does he like to use the DH spot to rest regulars, but he just had a game where Tapia was the DH, so clearly he and/or the organization want him to play everyday. If we see the two catcher lineup more than once or twice a week, I'd be surprised given the way Charlie has operated so far.
  14. Yeah I'm not too concerned about Groshans' lack of power as long as he does everything else really well. A DJ LeMahieu type, even if it's not the juiced ball 2019-20 version, would still be pretty valuable.
  15. Tapia at DH and Zimmer in RF instead of CF when CF defense is like his only plus skill. Calling Charlie a minor league manager at this rate might be an insult to the minor leagues.
  16. Melanie Newman is a really, really bad announcer. If she was doing a local broadcast, then that's one thing, but have no idea why anyone thought she'd fit a national broadcast.
  17. Just saw the box score. Can’t believe Romano was used for a 3rd day in a row, especially since he wasn’t even needed in the first game. Buntoyo ended Giles and seems like it’s his mission to do the same to Romano. It’s likely that who is available in the pen is determined before the game but Charlie (if he had a brain) should have avoided Romano either way.
  18. Basically. ESPN dropped weekday baseball games because they were non exclusive (which meant games were on ESPN and local cable), so the value of ESPN’s deal with MLB dropped. MLB needed to make up that money somewhere, hence the Apple/Peacock deals. Streaming services aren’t going to want non exclusive games since there would be no incentive for fans to subscribe if they could watch the games on local cable. It might be smart to start getting in bed with streaming services with cable, especially RSN’s, being a bit of a question mark moving forward, but not sure I would have picked Apple. Amazon Prime has way more reach, at least they would have made sense.
  19. At this point the Jays need a LH bat that can slot into the middle (or top) of the order. If it's a DH, then it's a DH. Benintendi would probably be the best option since he can play the OF, but other than him and Bell, I don't know who else is out there (that is realistically available). If the Jays don't mind trading prospect capital, then Reynolds would fit the team's needs perfectly (LH, CF), but it would be costly given the years of control he has left. Maybe Ian Happ? With the roster as is, Kirk should be the starting DH and backup CA. That is such an obvious setup that it actually irritates me that the team doesn't see it. Jansen should be playing a lot but it seems like neither catcher catches back to back days, which is stupid.
  20. Agreed. Jansen and Kirk should be in the lineup together as much as possible. But I think it's a combination of Charlie being Charlie, plus preferring to use DH to rest regulars (Vlad/Springer specifically). This kind of falls on Atkins more than Buntoyo since the bench is straight ass and if the org wants to use the DH spot in a rotating fashion, then don't field a roster where playing your two catchers is your best lineup. Hopefully if/when Benintendi or Bell are on this team in July, this will become less of an issue.
  21. Pre-2019 Grichuk would have been a nice 4th OF, but the 2019-present version is replacement level. He's not good. The problem is the Jays replaced a replacement level 4th OF with what could be the worst player in the sport this season, so it makes Grich look better than he really is by comparison. Someone like Joc Pederson would have been a nice replacement for Grichuk as he hits LH and can pretend to be a CF in case of emergency. Hell, Tapia is so bad that Gardner turning down the Jays offer kind of stings now.
  22. Buntoyo does not like playing the two catchers together, and now that the 3rd catcher is no longer on the roster, it's even less likely. Tapia is going to be in the lineup. Jansen is going to sit.
