  1. Tapia can't play RF defensively and can't hit lefties (well, he can't hit anybody). Biggio has at least hit lefties well in his career and the LH starter for the O's throws 90 mph so it's not the high velocity that Biggio has had issues with in the past. If they didn't want to use the 2 catcher lineup, then they still got this wrong. Honestly, if this is the way the Jays are going to use DH moving forward, then I have no idea why they kept all the catchers.
  2. Can we go back in time, still make this trade, but release Tapia the next day? I feel that the deal would be looked at way more favorably if that were the case given how well Pinto is doing.
  3. With a lefty on the mound, wouldn't it have made more sense to go with Kirk and Moreno both in the lineup? I know that's blasphemy since it would cut into Tapia's playing time, but that's kind of logical.
  4. Atkins has been going big with a lot of his moves. I think Montas/Castillo is more likely than going with fringey types like Quintana.
  5. I'm not a Trent Thornton fan by any means, but why the hell was he not brought in to replace Kikuchi when the score was 4-3? He's been remarkably better than Richards this season and can actually act as a long man, which for some reason Charlie was trying to do with Richards tonight.
  6. Should have gone with Thornton and tried to get 2 innings out of him. Richards has been awful this season.
  7. Going from Kikuchi to Richards. The fun continues.
  8. If it's TJS, then he's likely done as a Jay. Pretty much $40m in a sunk cost since this season will be a wash and next year (if it's TJ) will be as well. That's the risk with free agency some times. Bring on Montas.
  9. Kirk on the bench again. Counting tonight, Kirk has not started in 3 of the last 6 games (there was an off day in between as well), and only caught once. Kawhi wasn't load managed this much.
  10. Not only that, but Stripling is a FA after this season and Ryu is a question mark depending on how hurt he is, so the Jays will need to add a SP for 2023 at the minimum, with upgrading 2022 also a priority depending on the health/effectiveness of the current 5. That's why I could see them being in on Montas. The AAA SP depth, and SP depth in the system in general, is lacking. Tiedmann is only 19 so probably not the best idea to pencil him in any time soon, and Pearson is likely a RP at this point. It might require too much prospect capital to pull these off, but trading for Montas and Happ would be the ideal trade deadline.
  11. Atkins hasn't shown much interest in spending on relievers during this tenure, whether via FA or trade, so I tend to agree he probably doesn't trade Groshans for a reliever (unless it's Hader or someone like that with a track record of being elite). I think he's more likely to pursue Montas, especially if Ryu is out for a while. The A's seem to love prospects that are close to being in the bigs so Groshans would probably interest them, though obviously it would take more than just him.
  12. A super utility role is a great spot for Biggio if his bounce back is legit. He will still get a bunch of playing time in that role and he’s a much needed LH bat.
  13. I could definitely see the Jays trading Groshans. What type of value does he have is the question.
  14. Montoyo low key happy that he gets to use an additional reliever.
  15. The fact that Tapia hasn't been Panik'd yet is disappointing.
  16. If Jansen isn't the one traded out of the 3, I'd be pretty shocked.
  17. Stripling resembling the Dodgers version of him pre-2020 is a nice surprise so far. Hope it continues. Contract Year Strip wants to get paid.
  18. At least Kirk will be in the lineup tomorrow before his scheduled off day Monday.
  19. Agreed. Charlie and/or the org doesn’t know how to time these off days to the team’s advantage. If Kirk is going to catch 4 days a week, then you have 4 games a week to DH Springer/Vlad. That seems pretty reasonable. Just f’n plan the DH days for the days Kirk catches. They could have easily had Kirk DH today and Springer DH tomorrow with Kirk catching. It’s the Tigers so hopefully it doesn’t matter but if this was an important series against a good team then that would be horrendous. Tapia is going to end up with more PA’s than Kirk this season, and it will be done intentionally.
  20. The question I have is if you replaced Tapia on the roster with Katoh, would Kirk have still been on the bench today? If yes, then it’s clearly an org thing and we have to deal with this BS. But with Charlie you never know. A year ago he was pinch hitting Valera for Espinal and Kirk. Now the latter two could be all stars and Valera isn’t in the league. I don’t trust Charlie with anything.
  21. Springer gets a much needed DH day after playing like 7 innings in the field after an off day. Kirk on the bench and Tapia in the lineup.
  22. Jansen is definitely the one they trade, it’s just a matter of when. It won’t be during this season so this off season at the earliest. He has the fewest years of control left and can’t stay healthy. Plus, while Montoyo doesn’t do it often enough, he at least uses Kirk in the DH spot from time to time, something he won’t do with Jansen, so Kirk is likely the more useful player to the team.
  23. Jays and Rays about to win 95-100 games each and face each other, while the Red Sox going to win like 86 and face the Twins.
  24. The long man out of the pen pulled after 23 pitches (+ being really effective), replaced by a 1 inning reliever who sucks and is allowed to go up to 36 pitches because Charlie wanted to squeeze another (bad) inning out of him. Letting the long man who was actually effective pitch deeper into the game was probably too complicated.
  25. With the way Montoyo uses the DH, I don't think Tellez would have panned out here. The Jays basically need to trade for Ian Happ (or someone who can play a bunch of positions + being able to hit) to get the most of the DH spot the way it is used currently. The org seems to want to use DH to rest regulars, and that hurts when they have DH's on the roster.
