  1. Of course it’s a full day of offense not being able to score and the Mariners score on the first 10 pitches.
  2. Rays are going to sweep the Guardians.
  3. Zimmer sucks, but he could actually be useful in the playoffs as a pinch runner/defensive replacement. Although I completely understand if they feel JBJ does the same thing and didn't want to duplicate bench players with the same role. Vetrin presents in this case might be a good thing. Wouldn't surprise me if Kooch is used against a tough lefty if Mayza is unavailable for whatever reason, but he's been too inconsistent to trust in a big spot like that, so best case is he is not needed. What will be interesting is how they handle the lineup against Robbie Ray. If Espinal is not starting in that game (with Merrifield in LF), when he has huge R/L splits, then he's probably not healthy. Also glad that Jansen is at DH. Right call and should be the norm in the playoffs with him and Kirk. Whoever isn't catching should be the DH.
  4. I have the Rays beating the Guardians, but agree with Jays, Cardinals, and Mets advancing.
  5. Interesting that the Jays/M's would get the ABC game on Sunday (if that game happens). Other than that, not surprised at the timeslots there. The Jays benefit from playing the M's by getting a later time slots on Friday/Saturday.
  6. Zimmer shouldn't be allowed to bat. Ever.
  7. Not sure I would have used Romano today since he’s likely to pitch in every WC game (so at least 2, if not 3 straight days), but I guess they want to use every reliever to keep them consistent and avoid too many days off in a row.
  8. Tampa definitely tanking for the last WC spot. Can't say I blame them. Second WC spot is easily the worst spot to be in. Even when those SOB's lose they do it in the smartest way possible.
  9. Disappointing if they have to play 2 on Wednesday. Seems pointless since it does absolutely nothing for either team, and Orioles fans are likely already checked out and won't even come to either game. I guess as mentioned it has to do with tiebreakers with the Cardinals. I know Schneider likes to use a lot of relievers normally, but with the WC round starting on Friday and being three games in a row, the important members of the pen may have to go all 3 games, so wasting them tomorrow in either game would probably not be the best idea. Let White and Kikuchi take it on the chin tomorrow, have them go 100+ pitches regardless of performance.
  10. The lineup configuration is definitely going to be Whit at 2B and Tapia in LF. The club has soured on Biggio (and he hasn't been great offensively recently) and I don't know if Espinal or Gurriel will be ready to play by Friday. I don't even think it matters with Espinal as I think they are going to roll with Merrifield regardless. Tapia and Gurriel is more of a question mark, but at this point I doubt Gurriel will be ready to play LF. I don't know if it will happen, as the Jays have been reluctant to DH Jansen even with a 3rd catcher on the roster, but the lineup in every playoff game better have both Kirk and Jansen in it. The only scenario where they shouldn't do that is if Springer is hurt and needs to DH to keep his bat in the lineup, but if Springer can play CF, then it would be criminal if both catchers are not in every lineup.
  11. I'm in the States, so I'll be watching on mute, I guess.
  12. Springer, Vlad, Bichette, and Kirk should definitely get rest. Everyone else you can use according to what lineup spots can't be filled by bench players.
  13. Kurkjian and Mendoza. Wonderful.
  14. Yeah would be nice to clinch home field tonight and play the bench more the next two games.
  15. This game has playoff implications (homefield in the WC round) so they'll probably try to play through this. Hopefully no one gets hurt.
  16. While Kirk does have the most value, I don't think the Jays will move him. It's going to be come down to Jansen or Moreno if they have to move anyone, IMO. Initially my thought was they'd trade Jansen in the winter, but I'm not sure anymore. Moreno likely fetches the better return, and more teams would be in on Moreno than Jansen. Pretty much only contending teams would trade for Jansen and they likely wouldn't subtract MLB talent for him, so hard to find a reasonable deal there. Moreno would interest every team looking for a catcher, and rebuilding teams are the ones who would trade established MLB talent for prospects, so that's likely the more reasonable move given the team's timeline. Of course, they could move Moreno to a different position and keep all 3. It's a great problem to have.
  17. The return was light at the time. Kay was an older prospect and SWR was so young that we had to hope he was acquired pre-breakout. To be fair, it did look for a while that the Jays did in fact get SWR pre-breakout, so the deal started to look better afterwards, but hindsight is now matching what many felt at the time. The fact that the main part of that trade (SWR) + the 5th pick in the following draft were traded for a pitcher pretty much on the same level as Stroman kind of makes it worse now, except Stroman is signed to a much better contract. Of course, Berrios could always bounce back next season and resemble the 3-4 WAR starter that he normally is, but year 1 of 7 hasn't been good.
  18. Merrifield has turned into a good pickup.
  19. Playing both catchers at the same time has been the team's best lineup all season but we very rarely see Jansen DH'ing. Hopefully when Kirk catches Manoah in the playoffs, Jansen is at DH. There's really no excuse to not run that lineup for all 3 of the WC games and hopefully into a deeper playoff run. Only exception would be if Springer can't play the OF, but let's cross our fingers and hope he stays healthy from now until Friday.
  20. Yeah I remember how it felt in 2015 for the Jays drought to finally be over and to be able to watch the Jays in the playoffs again. Happy for Seattle fans.
  21. Canadian viewers don't count towards ESPN's ratings, and the Jays don't have Ohtani or Judge or someone that ESPN can market to US audiences (Vlad isn't there yet), so they are not going to prioritize the Jays when filling out the time slots. If it's Jays/Tampa, then prepare for a 12:30 pm EST timeslot. If it's Jays/Mariners, then one would think they'll at least throw a bone to Seattle fans and start it at 3:30-4 PM EST (at the earliest) so it's a reasonable time on the west coast. If the Mets have to play in the WC round, then NY is definitely going to get the prime time slot given its market size. Then on the other side they'll have Pujols in St. Louis, so that will get attention too. It's the AL games that are going to be a bore for most of America since it will involve a Canadian team, two smaller market teams that can barely get 10k into their own stadiums, and the Mariners who if J-Rod plays might be the only team that a national audience in the US would care about given how long of a drought they had. The AL games are going to get the s*** time slots.
  22. Manoah shouldn't be used in Game 162 regardless. The Jays are in the playoffs and they can't win the division. Make sure Manoah and Gausman are pitching the first two games of the WC series, whether it's home or away.
  23. I'd be surprised if all of Tapia, JBJ, and Zimmer are not on the playoff roster. JBJ has vetrin presents so his spot is likely set, and the club obviously feels Tapia is the greatest below replacement level player in history given his playing time all season, so I doubt that changes in October. Zimmer is the one likely on the bubble if they had to subtract one of those 3, but he's also probably best suited on a playoff roster as a pinch runner/defensive replacement given he's great at both of those things. Ultimately I think all 3 will get in even if everyone's healthy. Tapia is starting at least one of the WC games. I don't know how, or why, but he will.
