  1. I say 10y/$325m gets it done. He's not signing for anything less then $300M
  2. When was the last time both WS teams from the previous season missed both missed the postseason the next year?
  3. Would be curious to see what the average pitch velocity is now compared to 30 years ago? I remember back in the Jays WS days, 95 mph was considered serious gas, now there are so many pitchers that can throw 100 mph+ and bullpen are so much better! It makes sense that HR are up and averages are down. Ball is gonna travel further off a 100 mph pitch then a 90 mph pitch, but 100 mph pitch is gonna miss alot more bats. I wouldn't be surprised if offense continues to trend downward that we don't see some type of modification to the pitching mound, like they did in 1969 when they lowered the mound 5 inches. Mind you offensive numbers were much lower in 1968 then they are today though batting averages are about the same now as they were in 1968.
  4. Wow, that is a massive overpay for a guy turning 32 next year that hasn't hit above .250 or an OPS over .800 in 5 years. He's clearly declining including his defensive matrix. How can the Giants front office not see this?
  5. We already have a power hitting 1B with .900+ OPS. His name is Vladdy Jr. It's unfortunate that we didn't extend him earlier this year. We probably could have gotten him for about $250M, with the tear his on now probably gonna cost us at least $350M now. Can't see him getting anything less then $300M or AAV of $30M and a 10 year min contract. Anything less then a 10 year deal probably looking at $35M+ AAV
  6. Must say, I'm shocked the Jays are still pulling in the crowds they are. 35k for a Tuesday game vs Baltimore is impressive considering they are out of playoff contention and basically fielding a AAA ball club.
  7. I don't think I've ever seen a hot streak like this even during Vladdys 2021 season. He has basically gone from on OPS in the low .700 in June to and OPS of .930 now. It's conceivable for him to OPS over 1.000 if he keeps upset this pace the rest of the year. He's gonna get paid! I'd be willing to go 8 year/$240M to get him signed. Anything more then 8 years is too risky in my opinion. Still also gives him an opportunity at 1 more big contract after this one. I think it's gonna take $30M AAV on any contract shorter then 10 years. 10+ years you might be able to lower the AAV to around 26-27M. Vladdy doesn't have the body that will age well into his mid to late 30s though.
  8. They were already under the Luxury Tax Threshold after the Kikucki trade yesterday.
  9. Vladdy OPSing over .900 now. 2021 Vladdy is back! Extend this guy now!
  10. According to Spotrac they are now $4.3M under the competitive tax balance threshold since Houston will now be paying $3.3M of Kikuchi's remaining salary for this season. This is absolutely huge as it now resets the Luxury Tax penalty back to the minimum 20% for next season. That could be a potential $20M in savings if the Jays go wild in the off-season and go up to a $300M payroll. I have a feeling we are in for a crazy off season like we have never seen before. I can see some big FA signings after a disappointing year. Organization is gonna want to capitalize on the renos and not lose their fan base after a dissatourous season.
  11. Can't believe the M's are eating his entire remaining salary! They are desperate. This is huge in helping the Jays get under the Luxury Tax Threshold. Will allow them to go over next year at only a 20% tax penalty instead of 50% since it will reset. I have a feeling they ate gonna be going all in next year and will be big spenders in the FA market in the off season. This actually gives me hope.
  12. How did the Rays not challenge that? It was another unbelievable play by Varsho but it clearly hit the wall before it went into his glove.
  13. In 2015 we were 50-51 before we made picked up Price and Tulo! If we are somewhere around .500 at the all star break it's not out of the realm of possibility that we become buyers. As bad as a first half of the season we are having, it wasn't looking much better in 2015 and look how that turned out! Trying to stay positive as the thread suggests lol
  14. Surprised that this was the first time they've been swept all season considering how bad they've been.
  15. Is Bichette hurt or just a rest day?
  16. If you look at the foul pole it doesn't line up with the yellow line painted on the fence? Did anyone else notice this?
  17. The Jays will be saving over $2M in salary for the reminder of the season on Biggio's contract, I know they were extremely close on the 1st Threshold of the luxury tax, is it possible this may bring them under the luxury tax now?
  18. This is a horrible lineup. We have an off day tomorrow why not put our best out there? Would be a nice boost the get back to .500 before we go back home
  19. Any chance the Jays go after Brent Rooker? Maybe package Turner to get him?
  20. Big win! We're officially out of the AL East basement and half game back of the Red Sox. Let's win tomorrow and get back to .500. One series at a time, we are still very much in it. Lots of season left. Let's keep it rolling!
  21. Varsho had a 2.7 WAR so far this season, Moreno and Gurriel Jr have a combined WAR of 0.9. Remind me who won this trade again?
  22. What a gem by Gausman! Much needed as well considering tomorrow will likely be a bullpen game. Let's win this series tomorrow, we have a tough stretch upcoming. If we can keep our heads above water this month and somehow finish above .500 we have some hope. 85 wins could be enough to snag a WC spot. Definitely not out of reach.
  23. Was Lowkey hoping they would break the 1st inning futility streak. 29 games is still pretty impressive though lol
  24. Sad to see him go! Though he never lived up to expectations, he was a good bench piece who could play almost anywhere in the field. He had a great eye at the plate, almost too good. He showed flashes of brilliance but could never find the consistency. Wish him the best and hope he finds a good fit with another club.
  25. Here is a hot take. I think Robo umps will be bad for baseball. Because any pitch that even touches the zone even by a hair will now be called a strike it will give pitchers a greater advantage. I think it will benefit pitchers more then it does hitters. Anyone know the stats if currently more strikes are called balls or is it vise versa?
