  1. Is there anything to the idea that teams getting the bye often struggle due to the time off? Seems like there have been some years when the teams with the bye all get knocked out in the same year. But it could be SSS noise.
  2. Once again the key is for Berrios to make sure that the 3 bombs he gives up are all solo shots. If he can do that we will be feasting on Swiss Chalet tonight.
  3. Don’t tear Ohtani's jersey off during a home run celebration. Not because he’s hiding a cheating device, but because he’s hiding a full set of Yakuza tattoos.
  4. Mariano Rivera is getting sued for negligence as it pertains to some alleged sexual abuse that supposedly happened at a church camp he owns. Maybe he is liable, maybe he is not. I lean toward not for similar reasons. But anytime his name comes up on that cesspool of a site called Reddit, everyone immediately runs to calling him a pedophile. It's insane.
  5. Yeah he does have solid peripherals but he's a two-pitch starter which makes it tough. Those guys can sometimes thrive if both pitches are elite. They can even survive if the fastball is elite. But his fastball sucks (84 Stuff+). So despite having a nasty knuckle curve (Stuff+ 120) he needs to be in the bullpen.
  6. We might need the Red Sox to win these next two games. Holding off the Astros for a bye is probably a bigger concern than holding off the Red Sox for the division.
  7. Also, who was arguing with me about how good they think Alex Freeland is already? I can't remember but Freeland put up an 0-fer in the series and is slugging .222 right now lmao Another example of someone who didn't LISTEN
  8. Red Sox are getting pounded by the Astros and will drop to 4.5 back I tried telling everyone that they would fade but once again no one LISTENS
  9. Yeah and bullpen depth is huge too. It doesn't have any elite talent but it is really deep. It's basically a collection of solid 7th and 8th inning guys. As we saw yesterday, we can yank a starter and effectively decide to do a bullpen game and still beat a top tier team. The Mariners have a better playoff rotation but they need their starters to give them 6-7 innings because they only have 3 good relievers.
  10. The bullpen management in the playoffs will be interesting for sure. The pitching staff, both rotation and bullpen, doesn't really have ace starters or relievers but we do have a ton of #2s through #4s in the rotation and a ton of 7th and 8th inning-caliber guys in the bullpen. They will definitely be following the spreadsheet/pre-game plan. Hopefully it works!
  11. AL is such a crapshoot. Even a team that's unlikely to make it in the Rangers would be formidable. The only team in contention that doesn't seem like a threat is the Guardians.
  12. The pitches against Betts were beauties too. Pitch 1: ball that wasn't close Pitch 2: perfect pitch on the high outside corner Pitch 3: another perfect pitch high and inside corner. Game over
  13. Ohtani crushes pretty much everything but cutters and sweepers against lefties (what Fluharty throws). He's still very good against those pitches with really good power but does not have good xBAs and whiffs a lot. Nance throws slider, sinker and curveball and Ohtani crushes all of those. So Fluharty was the guy we wanted. Buck pointed out that Ohtani was wanting to swing the bat and be the hero and Fluharty's 9th and final pitch was a work of art. It wasn't that close to the zone so it would have been very hard to make solid contact but it was also still competitive to where Ohtani felt he had to swing. It was a work of art.
  14. The other factor is that after Hoffman we only had two pitchers left in Nance and Fluharty. If you use them both in the 9th then you are asking Fluharty to finish out the game which might include extra innings. Someone is going to say "ignore that you go for the win!" but severely reducing your 50/50 chances to win in extra innings wouldn't be great IMO. I suppose where Schneider probably could have done better is that he could have let Yariel finish the 8th instead of bringing Hoffman in. But Yariel has been bad lately and was struggling.
  15. But you can bet your bottom dollar that I will be cheering hard for her to fail. I cannot wait for a manager to get into her face after a blown call. There is zero chance that John Schneider has the courage to do it. But maybe this is the one instance where that a$$hole Aaron Boone can finally do the right thing?
  16. Umpire Scorecards doesn't grade how egregious the misses are, it just registers missed calls or not. So her overall accuracy wasn't bad, but a lot of the pitches she missed weren't close to being borderline. That seems bad but I suppose she got a lot of the borderline calls right which is good? I'm sure she was nervous and her debut was good enough that I think she probably ends up being an acceptable ump.
  17. Mariners needed to add another bat and a reliever. They made some good additions to the lineup but stopped just short. Their bench is embarrassing but I suppose they feel that Robles and Raley can return and give them a boost in the form of platoons? But that roster plays up in the playoffs because of the formidable playoff rotation and top heavy bullpen. Fangraphs has them as the most likely team in the AL to advance to the WS right now, just edging us out.
  18. Schneider kind of got stuck in no man’s land at a certain point If he takes Hoffman out for Nance then you are looking at Ohtani vs Nance bc of the 3 batter rule he was just begging Hoffman to get an out and he couldn’t do it its 95 percent Hoffman’s fault and Schneider did go to Varland early which kept us in the game
  19. Yeah he’s a 2nd tier Closer so treat him like one.
  20. Screw this game, we got 10 hits just make sure half of them are in the same inning next time
  21. Yeah I get it you hate Little and post about it daily like he’s the worst reliever in the league when he’s been pretty close to lights out. You can run high walk rates when you K almost 14 per 9
  22. Def would have been good to get another lefty but I don’t think it’s a huge deal. The three batter rule really limits the effectiveness of lefty specialists. You’ve got to get both righties and lefties out no matter what hand you throw with. Little has reverse splits anyway and a lot of the others run very tight splits. SerAnthony is the one guy who has a huge difference but the rest of them are pretty good vs both.
  23. Half our board talks like this after a Jays win
