  1. I collected a ton during the junk wax era when I was a kid and all of that stuff is worth almost nothing. The resurgence has definitely peaked my interest but I still plan on mostly staying away. It's become far more expensive and there's no way it pays off. I'd be better off doing more sports gambling. That said, I still might whet my appetite by picking up a rookie card of Vlad Jr. and Kirk because of the extensions and can display them on the shelf in my office. Maybe throw in a Halladay and Stieb rookie too.
  2. https://blogs.fangraphs.com/is-all-hope-lost-for-the-atlanta-braves/ The gist of the article is that the Braves only project for 79 wins next season and will need to spend big in FA next year to right the ship. But they haven't spent big in FA in quite some time. Meanwhile, the Ross Atkins' led Blue Jays have the best record in the American League. Dumping that chubby idiot AA was the best move Shapiro has made.
  3. He should be an upgrade over the below replacement level stuff they've been running out there But they are a joke for dumpster diving instead of making actual trades
  4. Red Sox dumpster diving for Nats castoffs after making minimal moves at the deadline
  5. Or for your boy Freeland who is flopping like a fish. I tried telling ya :)
  6. SerAnthony's splits are crazy. Utterly dominates righties and sucks against lefties because of his Sweeper. Jays aren't tinkering with his pitch mix against RHB too much but against LHB they are really having him throw his splitter a lot more and are dialing back his 4-Seamer BIG TIME. That would make sense based on the numbers against each pitch.
  7. Yeah I didn't like him letting Max start the 8th either because of the long ball issues.
  8. I never joined that slanderous witch hunt. Have a look for yourself: https://jayscentre.com/forums/topic/95733-vlad-jr-to-indy-ball/ Most of my posts in that thread were about my love for Swiss Chalet or protecting the board from a mentally ill poster by putting on my badge and Sherriff-ing him off into the sunset. When I did discuss Vlad, it was to defend him except one time when I needled some AA fanboys who were trashing the idea of extending Vlad while at the same time longing for the return of AA, a GM who never met a young player he didn't want to extend.
  9. The Vladdy haters are awfully quiet these days...
  10. https://blogs.fangraphs.com/vladimir-guerrero-jr-is-getting-out-of-the-swing-of-things/ Article on Vlad swinging less than ever. He's having a big second half. If the team was hellbent on resigning him no matter what and the options were giving him the 500 mil or playing it out in FA, it was probably wise to extend him.
  11. Good job by Gausman to limit that home run to a solo shot
  12. Keys to victory: Jays won't be striking out so they need to have good aim on their line drives & hard ground balls Gausman needs to make sure that the Cubs' home runs are solo shots
  13. Nice, well that extra IFA money from the Straw deal is use it or lose it so I wouldn't be surprised if this is a little bit of an overpay in order to entice him to come to the US early instead of entering the Korean draft. But if he's 6'5'' and throwing 95 at 18 years old he seems like a good gamble.
  14. anybody got a scouting report on this guy?
  15. The rare example of someone putting their money where their mouth isn't. Although if my takes were as bad as yours I'd probably fade myself too :)
  16. Lol ok this one is good. Love a good pro wrestling reference.
  17. I was so confident on the Jays win total being over 76.5 that I bet 50 units* on the over. That should cash any day now. *1 unit = 1 dollar
  18. I tried telling everyone yesterday and once again I was proven right.
  19. I hesitate to bring up the bad memories but he also got blasted by Bo's knee as the Mariners staged an 8-1 comeback in the playoffs
  20. The protocols are cautionary by definition and factor in his symptoms while also requiring gradual increases in activity. If he's hitting, fielding and running the bases that's a pretty good sign IMO.
  21. Sounds like Springer is just about ready to go. Hopefully whatever is delaying his return is just cautionary.
