  1. What I can say with great confidence is that the degeneration of this board's content over the past couple of days is directly correlated to the lack of any moves of note by the Jays recently. Everyone was on topic after the Hernandez trade.
  2. I would not feel great about a 10+ year $400+ million contract to Guerrero signed last year given the season he just had. So the only other opportunity to get him early was after the 2020 season, with limited stats to go on, and what the Jays did have on him at the time was pretty questionable. So I don't blame the team for standing pat until this point in time. Making Kirk and Manoah the franchise faces of the team for the next decade might be the more logical move than Bichette and Guerrero. Almost a certainty they aren't going to be able to keep all four.
  3. Because talking about Schilling's candidacy for the HOF will inevitably lead to this topic. Look at the last several pages to this thread. It's a straight line. No one is forcing you to read these posts if you don't like them.
  4. I guess this is in reference to me? It would have made a lot more sense if you called out my bragging about winning at capitalism than anything about pussy because the latter I mentioned it in passing in half a sentence and only in response to Mr. Goofy Blood above but totally unprompted went on a paragraph-long brag rant about the former. But I guess pussy always trumps money in the incels-who-don't think-they-are-incels world of this presumably mostly white male membership of a message board.
  5. I've never played football in my life. I'm actually in better shape now than I was at age 20. I was raised in a matriarchal family with a hardcore Christian grandmother who had subservient and often drunk male children/relatives so my take on the whole macho/male/female/patriarchy thing is extremely mixed up. I actually rank pretty close to centrist in most online political compasses. I do caucus with the BJMB right more often than not but there are definitely more right-wing people than me here and elsewhere. I've never used a gun in my life, I know how to use computers just fine and I don't have a wife but a harem. Also, part of growing up with an overbearing religious grandmother is my familiarity with video games was less than some Muslim kid in the sand dunes of Afghanistan and I never really picked up an interest in it. I am the absolute worst person ever in video games. I can't even pick up connections between the controller and things like Street Fighter or whatever the hell is so popular nowadays. Like a blind man who was blind his whole life, got sight, and now has to learn how to see. My brain already made all the connections it was going to make by the time I touched a video game. So you got one thing out of 10 correct I guess? I'm also a penny stock genius which affords me a lifestyle of ease, both financially and lifestyle wise (ex. I can go on vacation pretty much any time I want). Which you didn't bring up. But given that you sound like someone who will have to work 400 hours a week for the next 75 years to save up a down payment on a 500 sq ft condo, and still vote Trudeau because you're "progressive", I thought I'd bring it up. Just to know that you'll rage at being an absolute bottom cog of the capitalist system while I'm somewhere closer to the top.
  6. Actually no, the dying breed are the low sperm count vegan males who aren't manly enough to get a job that can support a family. So many women on various Reddit regret forums who thought they married their ideal progressive husband then realized the only talent or goal he has in life is playing video games. Can't even clean their own room let alone being bothered to please their wife. The connors of the world, for all their various shortcomings, are at least manly enough to breed the next generation of angry, bald leprechauns.
  7. There's my opinion on the matter. Schilling needs to be a man like he wants all the trannies to be, and not whine like a little 14 year old drama/drag queen about the ballots being rigged.
  8. Jays are one of thirty big league teams. That means on average they should have a 3.33333% chance of getting a desirable free agent. They most certainly have gotten more than 3.3333% of desirable free agents over the past couple of years and over the franchise's history.
  9. RE: Schilling His opinions on certain things isn't what should keep him out of the HOF, and I don't think it is. It's the request to be removed from the ballot that his peers are probably taking issue with. Whining like a bitch to try to become a martyr for his causes against "woke" BBWAA members or whatever. I can see players taking it as a slap in the face. Like Laika said, f*** around and find out. So he's kind of deserving of his s***** fate. Besides Schilling, the fact that Clemens and Bonds were completely blackballed "less than 4 votes each" of the 16 - that's something far worse. The HOF process has become such a joke. I can understand sweaty, 300 pound writers keeping those two out on some kind of moral high ground. But the players and execs should be much closer to what really went on behind the scenes and know that what Bonds and Clemens did weren't THAT egregious or out of the ordinary. Maybe they are using them as scapegoats to protect their own asses, I dunno. By 2050 when Bonds, Clemens, Schilling and Pete Rose have all croaked, they'll probably be inducted. MLB just doesn't want to give them the pleasure of being alive to see it happen. But it's going to be a bigger stain on baseball history if these guys are left out. Home run leader, yeah not in the HOF for reasons. Hit leader not in the HOF for reasons. Okay then.
  10. Salty Mets fans with terrible takes on Twitter is my fuel for the day:
  11. What do people think of taking on Bumgarner's contract in order to lessen the return back to Arizona for one of the outfielders? Based on the timing of salary commitments for this team, I'd rather try to shore up the OF in this way rather than commit long term to Nimmo. Not sure if he has any no trade clause but my guess if he does, Toronto would be on that list based on his personality lol.
  12. First time in my life I've seen an opposing team's fan propose a deal which I think is an overpay lol
  13. I like how Hernandez supporters/haters of the trade round up his expected WAR up to 4 when he did that once in his career, got to 2.4 for 2022 and is projected about that much for 2023. Can he get to 4 WAR in 2023? Sure. Just like Guerrero could get back over 6 WAR and replace Hernandez's missed production all by himself. If you like or hate the trade, at least do so based on actual projections for the players involved*. If I had to guess whether Hernandez beats or misses projections, my guess is that he misses. One year older and replacing AL East parks with AL West ones is not conducive for success for someone of his skillset. *Yeah I know some Bellinger supporters say he *could* get to this and that fantasy upside numbers which would look like an absolute steal. But even in the base case scenario, around 1.5 WAR for a one year flier contract - that's not a bad outcome since he can temporarily fill an outfield defensive shortage.
  14. Not to pile on this disaster thread, but this really doesn't make any sense. This team has absolutely no problems with offense as currently constructed. It wasn't the offense that blew the 8-1 lead. And it's not even December yet so let's wait until Spring Training before making predictions about how the board is going to be next September.
  15. I find it interesting that there is something in common with three of these four players you gave a pass to. Boomer goggles on hard in this rant.
  16. Instead of you guys whining about the Donaldson thing five years after the fact, just pretend the trade was Donaldson and Liriano for Hernandez and Merryweather. It'll help you cope.
  17. After Justin Smoak put up a 3.5 WAR season, it should be well established that literally anyone has 30-40 HR upside here. I like the Jays long-term game plan on Hernandez. Trade him to Seattle, watch him put up a 90 OPS+ there and sign him back cheap on a one year deal for the 2024 season.
  18. Imagine being a Brewers fan listening to smack from a Blue Jays fan about OF depth after a trade. Ryan Goins is fifth on the Jays OF depth chart right now.
  19. Isn't understanding that WAR is WAR wherever it comes from part of bluejaysmessageboard101? What's with this sudden obsession over replacing Hernandez's offensive production all of a sudden? The Jays have plenty of candidates to put up an .800 OPS. A 2.5 WAR output from Bellinger purely from defense and baserunning is as good as Hernandez slugging his way there. I'd argue more valuable because the Jays need defense and baserunning a lot more than another guy who can tally up the score at Fenway.
  20. Ideally? Guerrero. The variance in WAR between his 2021 and 2022 seasons is basically Hernandez. This team had six regulars above 110 OPS+ excluding Hernandez last years plus Jansen, Moreno and Merrifield who combined PA equate to a 7th regular above 110 OPS+ production. The team doesn't NEED to replace his bat like most are saying. They do need steady OF defense.
  21. As a playoff team that's soon going to have some very expensive roster decisions, the Jays need to worry about 2023 first, then worry about long term holes later. Bellinger at one year > Nimmo at some crazy multi-year contract. Jays likely trade one of their catchers, but I'm leaning towards getting a starting pitcher out of that rather than an OF.
  22. I guess. Depends if teams would do that. There has to be a fairly low ceiling given that anyone could have traded him for a marginal prospect and secured him for 1/18.
  23. A few Pillar-like plays in CF would fix that right up. Does this dude have any highlights of him eating grass? Or is his defensive value all good reads?
  24. Bellinger's not signing for 2/16. He will take 1/8 or 2/50 but not 2/16. That should be your first sanity check on these Twitter spammers.
  25. I don't get what you're saying? Hernandez has played in four playoff games, had one good game out of four, and lost all four of them. Not exactly Reggie Jackson. I don't see how his skillset is any more important than any other everyday position player. If any skillset has been amplified in playoff baseball over the last few years it's been lights-out BP pitching. Which is what the Jays supposedly got for him.
