  1. I hope they stretch him out and see what he can do as a starter.
  2. Why can't we sign Salazar to a minor league deal.
  3. I don't see why Stripling wouldn't be given a chance to start.
  4. Roark's a competitive guy who wants the ball. He's old school. He was also perfectly happy going to Buffalo and one of the guys that indicated so long before they actually settled on playing there while other players were complaining. I think Roark is a good dude. I don't like his pitching, but I don't have any problem with his personality. I hope he can pitch better this year.
  5. Yes it was the concierge that called the police and the police reported significant injuries. The defense also was touting video surveillance that was available of the alleged incident that occurred in the lobby. There's a lot of conjecture and not a whole lot of facts. It's easy to jump to conclusions. I have no clue what happened. They should have released the video.
  6. Do we even know what he was alleged to have done?
  7. so you're saying he's a cheerleader? I think in game he might do more than you're suggesting.
  8. Matz or Paxton is a better question. Paxton has obvious risks, but he was a one year gamble. Matz at 5.2 or Paxton at 8.5. They are both 1 year bets. I'm taking Paxton all day long. Maybe were closer to payroll limits for the season than I realize though.
  9. I'm happy for Walker. He seemed like a good guy. I would have liked him back on a one year, not so much on a 2 year deal.
  10. If you look at stat cast's outfielder jump Teoscar Lourdes and Grichuk were bunched in at 68.69,70 out of 105 last year. The year before Teoscar was 60 and Grichuk was 62. They are virtually the same. Teoscar has the stronger arm. Teoscar just makes dumb errors, letting a bouncing ball go under his glove. He's gotten better the last couple years and it's really about concentration. The difference between Grichuk and Teoscar really isn't that big. Grichuk and Tellez will split some time at DH, but everyone benefits with rest. Grichuk will get his at bats even if we have a remarkably healthy season from our position players.
  11. I knew there had to be a reason a guy with a 3.31 career FIP only received a one year 8.5 mil offer. Thanks for explaining that.
  12. Hopefully the Mariners are far enough out and we can trade for Paxton!
  13. I think you'd have to pay 3 to 5 mil for Grichuk to move him. The market for this type of player has really softened. If we're not completely up against it money wise why would you move Grichuk though? Grichuk at 5 mil is perfectly fine and if you have to eat 5 that's what you're paying. It's a sunk cost. We know we're going to have injuries. We have a rock star piece on the bench. Our lineup is truly outstanding. We just need one more starter!
  14. He had a O - contact rate of 47.5% league average is 66%. His z contact rate was 76.6% and league average rate is 87%. His overall contact rate was 66.1% and league average is 80%. He actually had a good eye and didn't swing at a lot of bad pitches. His actual ability to put the bat on the ball was awful. His eye hand co-ordination was awful. He had some power to make up for some of that but it wasn't just he defense that was lacking in his game.
  15. I'm pumped to see Kirk and Vlad. Can we go get a starting pitcher before camp opens. Price, Walker or Odorizzi in order of preference for me.
  16. Kirk has been working. i have no clue how well kirk speaks English or what his game calling abilities are. You likely don't either. The most important ability is the ability to hit. Kirk can hit and help contribute.
  17. So you're saying we should sign Paxton..oops too late, or trade for Price. Ok trade for Price it is then.
  18. I wonder if Sanchez could get a 1 mil guarantee with incentives or if he would have to take a minor league invite. I wouldn't be adverse to a small gamble on Sanchez if he's hitting mid 90s.
  19. I'd be fine with signing Walker or Odorizzi for that matter. I agree though, I don't want either on anything more than a 1 year deal.
  20. Well I'm still faintly holding out hope for a move for David Price. Who spends north of 250 mil on payroll following a Covid year!
  21. That saying goes for basically every decision that's made. The whole point of a discussion board is to voice your own opinions. I called for the Yates signing weeks before we made it. When we made it I came here and championed management for making a great move. Who didn't love the Springer signing. I just don't love the Chatwood and Matz moves. I think all our money into paxton would have made more sense. 6 months from now we will know which would have been a better direction.
  22. Matz only pitched 10 more innings last year and a forearm flexor strain ended his season. I never said Paxton's velocity would be back to his peak. I said it would be better than last year. He will be a much better pitcher than Matz next year. I could be wrong. I hope I am. I felt the same way about the big diesel last year and lots loved that deal.
  23. Pitchers didn't have proper time to ramp up last year with the stop and start and short summer camp. Putting too much stock into Velo for 20 innings under the circumstances is ridiculous. Pitchers ramp up to spring training. They don't throw max velocity in January. I fully expect Paxton's velocity to be up from last year. 8.5 mil was a gamble worth taking. I would have rather taking a shot on Paxton who was truly elite once vs Chatwood and Matz who were never elite. Our rotation is gross. There are 2 options left to improve that rotation in free agency. I'm starting to think the Jays won't sign anyone else.
  24. They should have talked to Matt Boyd!
