  1. Bauer's a great pitcher, but let's not ignore the fact that he can be a prick. He went after a 21 year old college girl on twitter a couple years ago too. He ended up apologizing for that one. He's generally very entertaining on twitter, but he's also easily set off.
  2. If Bieber ever became available SWR would be come available at the exact same moment. What are the red flags with Bieber..lol. It's a moot point Cleveland isn't moving Bieber
  3. It has been officially announced! Springer is going to fit in with this group. We need to sign bauer just to bring our social media presence up. He'll make more tweets in a year than the rest of the team combined!
  4. Paxton has crazy good stuff. There's nothing wrong with saying his stuff was as good or better than Bauer. It's a health thing. Is he broken down enough that he never gets back to his previous form? He wouldn't be commanding 1 and 12 if people thought that it was likely he could get back to being the same pitcher. Still it's not out of the realm of possibility.
  5. obviously I was joking. The idea of giving up prospects just brings you to your knees doesn't it.
  6. What will it take to convince Cleveland that they don't have enough to compete and convince them to give us Bieber and Ramirez? Could we just hand over our farm...here's everyone. It might be worth it...lol.
  7. One thing I learned from the George Springer signing is we have the least active twitter accounts in the MLB. The biggest signing in our teams history and I don't think a single player made a comment or even retweeted the news..lol.
  8. Well my mind drifts to the possibility that Grichuk is actually moved when it would more likely be Gurriel. Springer Bichette Gurriel Bryant Vlad Tellez Teoscar Biggio Kirk Ryu Hendriks Pearson Paxton Ray It's best not to think about those possibilities....lol.
  9. 3 years 14 per year on Hendricks....player vesting option for a 4th year at 16 if he finishes top 3 in Cy young voting. Talks were more likely due diligence than actual substance I suspect.
  10. https://www.cubsinsider.com/2021/01/24/cubs-have-reportedly-discussed-blockbuster-kris-bryant-kyle-hendricks-deal-with-blue-jays/
  11. After Gio Urshela, how can anyone deny the Yankees have made a pact with the Devil..lol.
  12. The Yankees are going after Taillon. There's angst in getting a guy and after 2 tommy Johns he sucks. There's also angst that your bitter rival gets him on a ridiculous cheap salary and he's really good. Nothing would please me more than stealing Taillon from the Yankees.
  13. I have a hard time believing Roark would get 6 mil on the open market. Still, I'll include Moreno, Pardinho and Roark and with the addition of Moreno the pirates take on Roark's full contract. Ok maybe I'll still give them 2 mil.
  14. If I include Adams can I also include Roark and 6 mil dollars too! This might actually be a great opportunity to unload Roark. The Pirates only have 40 mil on the books and they really could use an innings eater to protect young arms in a post covid shortened season.
  15. Kirk's almost a sure thing in my mind. I love that kid. No way I'm trading Kirk for a 2 year gamble on Taillon. I'm thinking more of a Pardinho for Taillon straight up.
  16. Why not take the gamble if it's only costing you a lottery ticket prospect Taillon is only making just over 2 mil. If he sucks you can just DFA him. I actually hope we get him. His add wouldn't prevent me from getting more starters. The dodgers have Gonsolin as their 6th and they are still being tied to Bauer. You can never have too much starting pitching!
  17. There are other advantages to players playing in Canada that are unique to players playing in Canada. The 81 games taxed at Ontario's ridiculous tax rate can be lessoned by using Retirement Compensation Agreements. They allow a player to defer income for retirement when they will likely live in the US and pay less tax. If they want all their money upfront so they can blow it on their entourage then they have to pay the high rate tax. If they are responsible they can lessen the tax blow considerably. The NBA banned the use of RCAs because it gave the Raptors an unfair advantage. I believe it's still available to hockey and baseball players. https://gblinc.ca/rca-and-professional-athletes/
  18. The highest marginal tax rate in Ontario is 53.53. It's a big difference and a win regardless of whether Springer's residence in Connecticut or Texas. It's likely Texas, which would be a massive win. I'm glad the Jays got creative and front loaded a contract that will save Springer some tax and give us flexibility down the road.
  19. How exactly are the rich players not paying the 37% federal tax rate? You may claim residence in states with zero state tax to lessen the blow on bonus payments, but you can't just circumvent the tax code. Players are taxed each game where the games are played. We obviously structured Springer's contract with a massive bonus because of the tax savings for him. Players can't incorporate. There is no way of getting around the 37% tax rate.
  20. Fair enough. No team is going to see the extended ramp up to get a further evaluation on what he really is. A team will sign him before it ever gets to that point. That team will either go down in flames with him or reap the spoils of success. It depends on your willingness to assume the risk and whether your team can undertake that risk reward scenario. We'll see where Shatkins goes with this one.
  21. You're missing the point. Yates was talking on MLB radio about throwing at this time in the off season. It's unreasonable to expect a healthy pitcher to be throwing anywhere close to max velocity in early January. If a pitcher was sitting 88 in early January he'd probably hit low 90s by opening day. For Paxton to be sitting low 90s in January, he's probably mid 90s by opening day.
  22. oddly enough we had Jason Frasor who had 2 tommy Johns before he ever got to the majors and he pitched relatively healthy his entire career until the age of 37 without issues. I find Taillon an intriguing option.
  23. Pitchers aren't suppose to be ramped up to max velocity at this time of the off season. Paxton hitting 94 is very encouraging. He might have been pushing a bit more considering he's auditioning for a job, but if he's hitting 94 now he's got more in the tank come April. The Micro discectomy generally has very positive outcomes. A forearm strain is never a good thing, but Paxton had a grade 1 strain, the mildest form. It's wasn't surprising to see pitchers injuries when summer camp didn't give pitchers the necessary time to ramp up. Paxton is the ultimate risk reward guy.
  24. You just took our payroll over 185 mil. You add in pension and benefits and minor salaries and we are right up against the luxury tax. I definitely like it, but I'm not sure Rogers would..lol.
  25. If we are going expensive Bauer and Paxton all day long. If we're going cheap I'd go Paxton and Walker on one year deals. Odorizzi and Tanaka want 3 year deals and next year's starting free agent pitcher market looks very good. I want the money to spend next year.
