  1. bump. Didn't see this thread before starting one, my fault. Wow the A's just got extremely deep in SP. They are the team to beat now.
  2. that was potential, this is the real deal. Didn't see the other thread. Whatever, this needs to be discussed.
  3. http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2014/07/athletics-to-acquire-jeff-samardzija-and-jason-hammel.html
  4. This deserves its own thread. Big move.
  5. Last I checked, win and war were the same number of letters.
  6. I see after my hiatus people still think WAR=win. Nice to know things are the same.
  7. Sanchez as a starting point I'd imagine. Beltre is one of my favourite players, imagine adding him to an already great middle of the lineup? The problem is, if you deal for Beltre you don't have enough left to add a pitcher, which is still a bigger priority IMO.
  8. That would be great. You never know.
  9. Exactly. I can't believe there's multiple pages discussing this. We know what the initial poster meant when he said progression to the mean so who gives a s***? It's laughable how hard some posters try to look smart.
  10. Is Reyes hurt? He's coming up as a scratch on espn fantasy.
  11. We know what he meant. No need to be that guy lol.
  12. I don't disagree, but he's also a lot cheaper because he's not nearly as good. Not needed IMO.
  13. It might be their time to win. I'd rather see a couple of contending seasons and then a garbage team than more mediocre-good seasons which we always have to watch. I'm not sure the Jays have much of a choice but maybe the price will change.
  14. I don't get all the love for McCarthy. So he has a nice K:BB... who cares? The Jays need to do better than him if they are serious about a championship.
  15. Thanks tips. Unfortunately basically every player on the Rays is overrated as far as this message board goes. So, I'll stop using the word when I talk about other teams. For example, the Orioles aren't overrated. They have a nice offense and terrible starting pitching, but everyone here knows that, so they're rated about right. Please tell me how Wil Myers isn't overrated here... many posters who want Friedman's nuts think he will be a stud and I think that is overrated by most MLB analysts/scouts.
  16. Nothing... that's my point? I don't think it deserves praise. Sure he's made some nice signings and some of his prospects have worked out, but I think a lot of you guys completely overrate him.
  17. It doesn't really matter. It just got tiring seeing people on Friedman's nuts because he wins the dollars per WAR award. I was talking the other day about the Shields trade, he was clearly shopping him and just sold him to whoever the highest bidder was. I don't know why he should get praise for that, and not that this is overly relevant but I really don't think Myers will turn into a stud, KC likely thought he was overrated and I believe they were right.
  18. I was at the game last Sunday and the crowd was electric. I think it was 48K if I remember correctly. If they stay in 1st or near first the attendance will be more consistent. And hey maybe the weekday games will draw 25 instead of 15 so we don't have to see as many wasted seats.
  19. Why? Because he might one day be somewhat in the realm of David Price? Give me a break. If they think Price will put them over the top Norris+ Sanchez is maybe even a starting point.
  20. I actually missed the game today, but saw the highlights. It's pretty clear that Stroman has big league stuff. Anyways I think the whole board agrees he's a better option even short term than the double H's they're running out. Looks like Hendriks will get the cut, good guy but he gave up way too many borderline homeruns to a terrible offense last start. Time to send him back.
  21. The window is likely closing soon. This is an elite offense with a few good serviceable pitchers. They need an ace. Price would put them over the top, so they should really consider it, assuming they even have the assets outside of Hutch/Stroman, which I'm not convinced they do.
  22. They have to be competitive for the next couple of years and make the playoffs at least once. If the stars align and they win a world series but suck every other year he gets an automatic pass IMO.
  23. That would be alright. Masterson might get traded, he needs to turn it around first though. If the Jays don't have the prospects maybe they could take on a contract to avoid trading Sanchez/Stroman +. People are talking about Samadzija but I wonder if a guy like Edwin Jackson could be traded.
  24. If Morrow comes back in July and the Jays are in it, I hope they don't use that as an excuse to not get a starter. It seems plausible though.
