  1. To be fair to him, his tenure deserves this type of recognition. Still would like to know his day-to-day role, I know he oversees a lot of people but he does make it seem like he doesn't do much outside of tasting Cubans (and I'm not talking about people Seinfeld fans!).
  2. I approve of this GDT. Embarrassing if they can't win today. Stro needs to turn it around in his last few starts.
  3. Cherington is an excellent guy to have aboard and those bashing this move are probably idiots. The guy was GM of the Red Sox- an organization with excellent scouting, player development, marketing, etc. He definitely picked up plenty of knowledge there and can help bring that to the Jays. It's a great move.
  4. Did himself or someone reveal that he has a high fibre diet? I am confused.
  5. Not sure what audience you were fishing for laughs from there
  6. Agree, but it could be an advantage, let's hope it's the latter. From my personal experience I'd say it's more likely to be positive when you play after the team you are in a race with.
  7. Great point by Tabler. The Jays might actually have an advantage playing on the West Coast due to the time difference. Let's hope the team feels the same way and is energized.
  8. The Blue Jays are more popular than they have ever been and yet forum activity seems stagnant. Awful forum in terms of furthering discussion IMO but to each his own.
  9. Thanks. Didn't know that. My point was not to make a statistical argument- if a pitcher likes pitching to catcher A over catcher B, he probably does better with catcher A. Also, it could boost his confidence during a time when he might start to have mental struggles.
  10. Right and correct me if wrong but he did say that he preferred throwing to Navarro last season... so he'd be more comfortable and would likely pitch better.
  11. Uh no wtf are they going to do with him on the roster
  12. Anyone else think this could be a replacement of personal catchers? Navarro can catch Estrada, might give Marco a bit of a jolt late in the season.
  13. How's Ceciliani in CF? I wouldn't mind trying Travis Donaldson Edwin Tulo Saunders Martin Smoak Carrera Ceciliani Upton can take CF vs LHP
  14. I never talked about market inefficiency... do you want to talk about this? Apparently Erik Kratz was an 80 million dollar player a couple seasons ago! If we want a player to punch the SS I'd probably vote for Ceciliani
  15. I don't know. It might be worth a look to see what Carrera offers in CF although I agree he probably isn't great. To me Carrera is probably a better hitter as of right now.
  16. BJ Upton should be a punch-run only option, maybe an occasional start vs LHP. At this point I think Carrera is a more capable player than Upton. Here's to hoping they realize Upton is a useful bench player and not much more.
  17. I'd like to see him maybe get a look, but if he clearly doesn't have it then he should walk away. This year he's looked terrible at the plate, not the same player he was even a year ago. It's sad to watch legends struggle this badly.
  18. It is really an interesting discussion. There was a decent summary on fangraphs about this: http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/should-alex-rodriguez-retire/ To be honest I'd rather him just retire. It's tough to watch awful, washed up players continue to play just to hit milestones. Remember Fred McGriff? I'd rather ARod just walk away and be remembered as easily a top 5 player to ever play the game. Hopefully he feels the same way.
  19. I thought it was 10.5%. Can someone please confirm?
  20. No you said, "a guy like JA Happ, or two of them". You never suggested that they need to target JA Happ specifically, you just meant they should get a fairly reliable mid-back rotation veteran pitcher.
  21. I agree. He is one of the most enjoyable players to watch. He is humble and works hard and doesn't whine when he is playing poorly or gets a bad call. Plus he has a great, sensible approach at the plate for a young player.
  22. You know what... that's a good point, Ortiz does have an outside shot for sure. You could definitely make a fair case for him especially if they win the division.
  23. Who's winning the MVP race? Donaldson is the clear favourite IMO. Altuve is probably a close second and might get the nod. Other players who could win with a hot 2 months: Machado Trout Betts Bogaerts
  24. It seems unlikely that they would trade for him and take his salary and then put him in the pen after two starts. If they're acquiring him at the deadline they must believe in his ability and two starts should not decide whether he'll stick in the rotation. We'll see what happens but IMO it seems very unlikely.
