  1. They have so-called expertise in predicting how markets (especially for one of their star players who they should use a lot of their resources toward) for players will play out. If you think it's fine for them to think expected price tomorrow=price today then that's hilarious. It's a huge part of their job to try and understand Edwin's potential market.
  2. It would be nice if more posters on this forum actually contributed to the conversation vs call people idiots. It would go a long way to growing the forum, which should be a common goal.
  3. They would have waited before signing Morales and/or Pearce. I thought that was clear in my first post. You seem reasonable, so I apologize if it wasn't clear.
  4. Do you not think they should do a better job at predicting how Edwin's market will unfold? Part of their job is trying to predict movements in player prices. Obviously they won't be perfect but if they were clearly not even close on predicting what his offers would look like there's a big problem.
  5. It's also really embarrassing if Edwin gets somewhere in the ballpark of 4/80 and it's not with the Jays. If they did seriously offer him that, it would signal they poorly predicted how his market would unfold, which is not defensible.
  6. It's embarrassing if Steve Pearce has any influence on the Edwin signing... I don't think that's the case cmrmr
  7. He's fine. They should of course try to get a better lefty, I can think of one Cuban guy they could use...
  8. As usual, some people are overrating prospects. Giolito is one of those players who could be worth absolutely nothing in a short period of time. Sure he could be great, but his stock has already fallen. I suspect the Nationals know quite a bit more than us about him.
  9. A lot of players have been like that... it's intriguing, but not something the Jays should rely on. Of course, there's no clear indication they are planning on using him full time, so we'll have to wait and see.
  10. My point was that it was probably not that many!
  11. Don't like this move. It's okay if he's a bench bat, but he hasn't had 400 PA in a season before and is 34. If he's relied upon to be an everyday player, that's Rays-esque... i.e. something a potential contender like the Jays shouldn't be doing. We'll have to wait and see what else they do to fully judge the signing, though.
  12. I think everyone likes how he would translate to the AL East. Sign me up if they're willing to spend some cash.
  13. "The Diamondbacks decided not to tender arbitration contracts to catcher Welington Castillo and righty Rubby De La Rosa, per a team announcement. The decision on Castillo, in particular, rates as a surprise; both will be available to the highest bidder on the open market. De La Rosa, whose elbow health is in question, was projected at a $3.0MM tab. That was an amply reasonable amount for his talent, particularly considering that there’s another season of control to go, but the team may not have been encouraged by the medical signals it received. Last we checked in, the 27-year-old was undergoing stem cell therapy in an effort to avoid Tommy John surgery. He has previously undergone a UCL replacement in his career, and at this point, a repeat procedure surely would’ve caused him to miss all of the 2017 season. In that event, Arizona would’ve been required to promise him the same rate of pay both for 2017 and 2018, all in the hopes that he’d return (and return to form) in the second of those two years." Of course you wonder how likely it is he needs TJS, but obviously the upside is there. I'd imagine a lot of teams would be all over him, he'd be a nice lower risk (in terms of $$) signing. Maybe you're pissing money away but he has a chance to be a useful starter. If he's healthy, he's certainly worth a look for the rotation.
  14. Ya 11 mil these days is not a lot. He should be a useful power hitter in the next few years and that's all he's signed to be.
  15. What are you even basing the idea that he's going to be grossly overpaid on? 33/3 isn't that high, he can't play defense but is a good bat and posted two strong consecutive years in a row. Why is he now overpaid relative to what you think he's worth on the free agent market?
  16. Great thanks, much appreciated.
  17. I assume there is something more legit about the calculations that wouldn't necessarily be super easy to find. Someone intelligent like Terminator might have some resources in his back pocket.
  18. I've heard that before. Do you know off the top of your head where I can see how they came up with this value? It's gotta be different for every team.
  19. Then why didn't they make it an 8 day DL? Or 11 or 12 day? If you don't care then why are you posting responses in this thread?
  20. I care. Instead of just blindly accepting it as a good move it's interesting (at least for me) to ask why it was changed.
  21. No it wasn't, he said it was weird and changed mid-season.
  22. Thanks. That's interesting and Hurl has provided some good info. The first thing that comes to my mind is how many total games will be lost actually being on the DL vs with the 15 day? Teams have to call up players, if call ups get less games due to the rule change that affects their salary potential which is certainly a serious concern for many players.
  23. Then why was it 15 before? They clearly had a reason why it was 15 days before and now they're changing it...
  24. why is that funny? I think most people would be open to 3/45 if Edwin walks.
