  1. Ultimately I was wondering if he/someone else had some info on which pitchers might be more injury prone.
  2. It depends what he meant by "serious injury"... so maybe someone should clarify that first. No reason to flat out expect someone to go down for the whole season, for example.
  3. It sounds like that might be the case, based on their conservative offseason.
  4. lol I put the wrong year in. Fixed!
  5. For non-gameday, non-threadworthy general Blue Jays 2017 discussion. Go
  6. Maybe, but I care about the Blue Jays FO, not necessarily how good his agent is. They misread the market and proceeded to overpay for Morales (in the sense of what he likely would have ended up with at this point, not his $$/WAR).
  7. Thanks that's useful. I was more asking about specifically the Jays' pitchers... none of their pitchers specifically jump out to me as a huge injury risk. Maybe Sanchez?
  8. Basic logic would suggest otherwise. Maybe it will work out, but right now it the whole situation looks stupid on the FO.
  9. Nice Rosenthal article. This has been discussed for weeks, nice to see the mainstream media picking up this big FO blunder.
  10. Why should we expect that? It's a possibility sure, but which pitcher's do you think are particularly vulnerable to something really serious?
  11. Wow you've wasted a lot of time trying to tell me off. Anyways I disagree. I asked a basic question... if he didn't take discounting into account it's fine, I was legitimately curious FFS. If you were a little more accepting about different points of view and different interests, the forum might actually grow and attract new members. I'm interested in how some people come up with their ideas, so I ask (and sometimes play devil's advocate). I often laugh in your face because in general I think you're clueless, but normally I'm cordial to (most, not all) other posters. Anyways that's my opinion. Maybe you should put me on ignore!
  12. Wow you just don't stop do you? You guys are attempting to value players. Obviously what a player provides in 5 years isn't as valuable as what he provides next year. I basically asked if his estimates took that into account... it's not trying to sound smart, it's a pretty straightforward question I had about his table of values.
  13. Didn't intend that, apologies if that was the case.
  14. Yeah I don't know. It was a pretty basic question. Dr_Dinger posted some number evaluating contract surplus, so I asked (in a nutshell) where he got that number from and if it takes discounting into account- it was a legitimate question and not intended to come across in poor taste. Obviously there's lots of problems evaluating contract value, etc, but he was attempting to value McCutchen vs Quintana so I figured I'd ask about his method. It's a shame people seemed to have trouble understanding that. Oh well.
  15. It was a basic question that I was asking if that's what you meant, I agree. That's why I found it surprising he didn't want to give the 1 sentence answer it would require. Too bad.
  16. I thought we could have a nice conversation about how you came up with some of your numbers, but I guess you're not entirely sure about some things. It's fine.
  17. My question is legitimate, can you please answer it? I'm actually curious.
  18. I know what inflation is, but my question is: how much do you think 1 WAR will cost in 2020? how much do you think 1 WAR (projected) in 2020 costs today? Those are two separate values. Which one is he estimating to be 10,500,000?
  19. Yeah it is crazy, I agree it's probably fair, but I think he misinterpreted my question. Maybe this is a bit more clear: If 1 WAR is worth 10,500,000 in 2020, what is it worth today? Or is does that amount take into account discounting in future years?
  20. I mean, what's the present value of 1 WAR in 2020? Is it 10,500,000? Or should we make some adjustment?
  21. Are these $/WAR projections present value?
  22. I wasn't talking about the small set of regular posters on this website but the media and other fans I've talked to. Win some, lose some? That's a pretty big mistake for a franchise icon, but if you want to give them a pass for what could end up costing the team, then to each their own. Let's hope Steve Pearce ends up being some genius bargain that 29 teams missed out on!
  23. Does he have any info outside of speculating based on what he's heard? Or is he just waving his hands?
  24. Totally right. It's unbelievable how many people are ignoring this point.
