  1. He was a truly great player of this generation. 6th all time in hits and at a premium position. When his career is over it's hard to dislike him.
  2. I feel like I have to post this.
  3. I don't understand the hate here, clearly a lot of people think they're good since they just got 5 year contracts. Congratulations Buck and Tabby!
  4. Yep. They referenced since 1901 so Cy Young was not included, good catch.
  5. 17 years as per Sportsnet tonight.
  6. I mean, when they use it in their WAR projection. I thought that was clear.
  7. I really don't buy into that. I read some stuff on framing. It doesn't seem to be developed nearly enough yet. When Steamer starts using it for their projection system I will start to take it more seriously. Until then, not happening.
  8. I find it funny people are upset with Navarro. He's not a great defensive catcher by any stretch but he's a lot better than JPA. And his bat has also been a big upgrade. As we saw the last few years, you can do a lot worse than having Navarro behind the plate.
  9. There's way more problems with the Jays than at catcher. I like Martin even though I'm not into the framing preachers, but he's going to get paid a lot. They'd be better off getting a starter IMO.
  10. Dickey pitched (albeit poorly) through a sore neck last season. Morrow would have been on the DL. If they don't keep both they should really just clean house IMO.
  11. Good thread, he is a pleasure to watch. Congratulations to him.
  12. Not that you need to be perfect to be useful, but you'd need to know how the pitcher is throwing that night/the last couple of innings, what type of batters they are facing, etc. There's lots of feel that goes into game calling, whether you think that's bull or not is debatable, but it would be hard to sell anything credible. That being said you have been looking into it, so perhaps I am completely wrong.
  13. Delabar has pitched less than Sanchez...
  14. I don't know. Give me a way you could come up with a useful stat to quantify game calling. I can't think of anything that would be useful, especially given the data they keep.
  15. I see what you're saying those were big blows, but the things you listed weren't entirely unlikely. The problem with the Jays was that their offseason was unsuccessful. We all knew this in April and despite a couple of hot streaks we now know we were right the whole time.
  16. lol. You're too much sometimes.
  17. It will be interesting to see if they do anything this offseason. They should go hard after Scherzer or Lester and try to get someone (I originally thought Ramirez was a FA) on a short term deal, assuming Lawrie can play some 2nd before he gets hurt. Add something to the bullpen and then maybe they can contend.
  18. congrats to the starters. They stayed healthy and kept them in ball games. Not their fault, they did the best with their ability.
  19. http://espn.go.com/mlb/features/cyyoung
  20. The thread title warned everyone that it was a simple breakdown, so it was kind of pointless calling him out is all I'm saying. If you want to go deeper, yes they've pitched a lot of innings leading to higher WAR than most teams. The starting pitching has exceeded my expectations this year and they are still not in the playoffs, go figure.
  21. Is anyone else surprised by how bad he's been? He was never going to be an offensive stud but he did have a nice swing.
  22. FFS. Good hitting and bad pitching/defence. Do you have to nitpick everything?
  23. The starters were okay. They basically have 4 mid rotation starters and a decent 5th, just missing the front end guy.
