  1. He was throwing 99 with a nice breaking ball. Plus the strike zone was favourable.
  2. Or they should have tried to get some relievers in the offseason.
  3. Yeah when they got Estrada I figured if he wasn't in the rotation, he could maybe be used as an 8th-9th inning guy. I'd like to see them try that, but sounds like a longshot based on how they're using him.
  4. Andrew Miller got a lot of money but has looked like an absolute ace reliever so far. Even Gregerson would have been a very useful addition. I'm not saying they should go crazy on the bullpen but all they really needed was one established reliever. It's the same old story, hoping the stars align and the bullpen fixes itself, doesn't sound like a good strategy for a team that is supposed to contend.
  5. I would say there is a 0% chance Pillar takes over for Pompey.
  6. I don't mind Tolleson but with Valencia and Pillar as bench options he is useless to have. Good move.
  7. Ha. Vodka or in some cases Tequila. Don't worry I wouldn't freeze whiskey!
  8. No it does, but my freezer doesn't. That's where I keep the hard stuff.
  9. I am also thinking about crossing over to the dark side.
  10. I know it's easy to argue this in hindsight, but with Bautista out and Smyly on a pitch count why wouldn't they just use Saunders in LF? You're sitting him vs a limited innings LHP in favour of a player who isn't an outfielder... doesn't make sense to me.
  11. I'm assuming that included Stroman. Clearly when he went down SP was going to be questionable.
  12. Yeah Valencia was ok. I'd just go with Valencia in LF over Goins every time, he's capable enough and at least a legitimate hitter whereas Goins can't hit at all. Even against RHP he has major league ABs, can't say the same for Goins.
  13. I'm not talking about Hendriks, he looked fine. I just thought it was weird when someone posted Eovaldi was looking just "ok" a couple weeks back because of his xFIP...
  14. I don't think so. It's important to use stats and watch IMO, but if you don't think so, that's fine.
  15. Ok, agree to disagree then. If some posters think xFIP is the only way to evaluate a pitcher's start then so be it, but I think that is wrong. Let's agree to disagree.
  16. Both are irrelevant. IMO the only way to evaluate a pitcher in a small sample, is by watching closely. I had someone claim that Eovaldi was pitching "ok" through 4 innings a couple of weeks back because of his xFIP when it was clear he was pitching well at the time.
  17. I really think evaluating a pitcher based on xFIP in 0.1 IP is completely pointless. Just my opinion.
  18. Nice but it's hard to rely on a 20 year old to close every game. Should've at least signed Gregerson.
  19. Is Gausman starting soon? Hard to imagine he's worse than Bud Norris, or anyone in their rotation.
