  1. Conventional strategy says Garza is a terrible pick. I did however take Latos today so didn't work out for me either, though I am mid pack currently (although Greinke needs to go still, are they going to play?
  2. "Ned Yost said he and Ventura were laughing about the injury afterward, so owners should expect him to take the ball Sunday." I guess in April you have to be really careful with the young guys. Still a thumb cramp? What a wimp.
  3. Pretty sure Choo hit leadoff almost every game when he played for the Reds.
  4. Porcello is 26. Buehrle got 4/58 at 32 a few years ago if you want to talk low strikeout pitchers. I just don't like Porcello. I'm never impressed when I watch him pitch. Part of that is probably because of the lack of strikeouts, but nothing about the way he works jumps out to me as a guy I want to give over 20 million a year to. You can see how it's a passable deal because of his age/injury history, but I'm also skeptical fatcow!
  5. That seems like too much for sure. The Red Sox are just flat out sold on him I guess, trading for him and now going all out extending him before he even pitches. In a year or two we could look back and say they got a good deal, but I really doubt it.
  6. This is a really crazy trade. Padres are going all out. Kind of funny how it reunites the Upton bros again though.
  7. For those uninformed people who think Tanaka should just get TJS, here's a decent article explaining why they elected for rehab. http://www.pinstripealley.com/2014/7/11/5890713/masahiro-tanaka-injury-yankees-ucl-tear-prp-rehab-effective-tommy-john-surgery
  8. I read something similar and took a chance on Tanaka. I'm not sure what the likelihood is for him to hold up, but Cashman didn't seem overly worried in an interview this spring FWIW, which might be nothing.
  9. Bad typo, fixed!
  10. Thanks for the article. Pompey/Norris getting a lot of votes. I'd have to take Walker over those guys but it's exciting that the Jays have THREE guys who should contend for the RoY.
  11. Oh yeah, one can wish. I'm not too low on Navarro if they're committed to Martin catching Dickey though. But if they can free up some space to work out a Papelbon deal or even a contract with Soriano you'd have to think that would be considered.
  12. Dbacks trade Cahill and some cash to the Braves. Freeing up payroll for Navarro?
  13. Yeah of course, but how much does the dollar affect how much the Jays spend on payroll? Most of Rogers revenue is in CAD, but they must have plenty of assets in US dollars. Do you or anyone here have any insight? This is something I've been wondering for a while.
  14. They for sure have a currency hedge, but the dollar going down still hurts at least a bit. It would be interesting if they discussed this topic more openly.
  15. I wonder if we'll ever see him for the Orioles this year. He's something like 4-5 on their depth chart now. Could see Snider/JPA in the same lineup if that happens.
  16. I don't know what is serious, I don't read every post religiously. For all I know that post was serious and now you're backtracking, I have no clue what to believe with these posters anymore.
  17. Lol and you flame me for saying Cashman is a good GM yet you like Navarro because he was clutch last year. Wow.
  18. This is what made the most sense to me. Nothing against Tolleson, but they need someone a little more capable of covering short, especially when you consider that Reyes is one of those "day to day" candidates who has to sit out 3-4 games randomly without going on the DL.
  19. Yeah for sure. AA has said several times Sanchez was transitioning to more of a strike thrower last year. That's why you can remain cautiously optimistic that he'll have decent (not great) strikeout numbers too, he was going through some adjustments. Just let the kid pitch before assuming he'll be garbage.
  20. It's great that they've moved toward having more switch hitters recently. That's something the Yankees have been doing successfully for years.
  21. Yeah you can't win them all. Just like how Justin Smoak was a huge part of the Cliff Lee trade... but he ended up being a huge bust.
  22. That's possible. You have to wonder if they have 2 guys who can pitch 2-3 innings or so if needed. That way maybe they go with a 6 man pen to have 3 catchers. Doesn't seem like a great idea, but having Thole takes a lot away from their bench.
  23. Some guys need a bit longer to be stretched out due to injury concerns and stuff like that. Tanaka threw 59 pitches today, other guys with some soreness need to take it slow as well. If they shorten spring training they end up rushing players more and that leads to more injuries which is NOT best for business.
  24. Ya like you said it's all about trying to rope him into saying something that some people will perceive as dumb. A reporter's job is to create something that people will be interested in, so can't blame them, but still seems like an irrelevant article and yet people get mad for people starting threads over something interesting to talk about (even if it's not a huge news piece).
