  1. I was going off the top of my head, it was a bad comparison but I meant that he was a guy who pitched tons and tons of innings but was never really regarded as the best pitcher in the game.
  2. Thanks, I forgot he was big into cocaine. Still of course a ridiculous reason for keeping him out.
  3. Admittedly I didn't stare at Blyleven's fangraphs page before posting that, my mistake, I went based on the fact that he never won a Cy Young, and was actually only close a few times from what I remember. He was a lot better than Buehrle of course, and Buehrle will not get in the hall of fame but I do understand twistedlogic's way of looking at it.
  4. I don't understand why he's not in.
  5. You have to remember that Bert Blyleven got inducted. He pitched a crazy amount of innings (different era) but might be a decent comparison to Buehrle. Doubtful he gets in but I wouldn't say there's "no chance in hell".
  6. Cubs are a huge strikeout team. Not surprising to see him dominate. What a great pitcher, might be the best in baseball at the moment.
  7. De Aza DFA. I think he would be an excellent fit.
  8. It's not meant to be an unbiased talk show, his job is to promote and defend the Jays to get viewers. Ever since his little run in with Cito he's been like this.
  9. I have actually thought about this before. It seems to make sense in terms of the window of contention. If you take Garza's salary it makes a lot of sense to add both of those guys but we all know about the payroll restrictions.
  10. "It's no coincidence that two of the last four Cy Young winners threw to the Tigers' Alex Avila (below) -- the 28-year-old has saved 31 runs over the last three seasons from his game-calling, ranking No. 2 in baseball behind A.J. Ellis." So because a guy is pitching well we're going to give credit to his catcher for calling the right pitches? Also Ellis catches the best pitcher in the game and the Tigers/Dodgers have had two of the best rotations in baseball regardless of who's catching. Dear god. I am going to suggest that this is total crap.
  11. Might be an ok option, or Carrera in CF. Talk about reaching to the bottom of the garbage bin. The problem is quite clear and it is that they had no money in the off-season. Like someone suggested DeJesus would have been great right now but he's not really a CF so you're paying 5 million for a guy who is likely a 4th OF. Starting pitching was a problem even with a healthy Stroman and even a guy like Jason Hammel would have been a great fit. But instead they were forced to give Pompey a look and shed a bit of payroll where they could so they could sign the message board darling Russell Martin.
  12. Whatever. Wilner is annoying but he's doing his job trying to get people to watch despite their despicable lineup, you'd be doing the same thing.
  13. Dickey pitched well tonight. He's not done, he's his usual inconsistent self. I expect more outings like this mixed in with some total garbage outings as we are accustomed to.
  14. Thanks. I'm not claiming he's a strikeout artist don't worry. I just meant that he does have a lot more K potential than he's shown. It's doubtful he's going to be a 7.5 k/9 starter, but closer to 7 k/9 as long as he can improve his control is within his realistic capabilities. Time will tell, I guess they're committed to him for a little while longer so we'll get to see if he can build on this.
  15. That's really encouraging to read. If (big if) he can get ahead of hitters more often we could see K rates closer to the 7.5/9 range.
  16. Missed this post, cool that he actually pitched alright and didn't fluke into a good pitching line.
  17. I missed the first 7 innings. Can someone other than tercet tell me how he was tonight? His line was alright and threw 60 strikes, seems ok.
  18. Sure, that's fair. It has to be a large sample stat, I have no idea how many innings until it "sort of" stabilizes, if anybody knows that would be cool to know.
  19. Looking at one-game xFIP for a pitcher is also pointless.
  20. Am I remembering right? They traded Syndergaard instead of Sanchez because they were higher on Sanchez at the time. If they had traded Sanchez instead it might have been ok.
  21. Are there idiots who think it's not a thing? It gets exaggerated sure, but clearly some players are made of glass relative to others.
  22. All of the starters except Buehrle have been not even close to the plate at times, not the umpire's fault. You're more likely the get the call if the pitch is actually close to the zone.
  23. Anyone else think this will be a 10-9 type of game?
  24. @king too bad looks like a fun park to visit
  25. And that's fair. I thought you were worried he'd completely fall apart. A bit of decline is likely of course but in no way should anyone be worried EE will have a year much poorer than his previous 3 seasons.
